Holy shit his connection to Baldur The Norse God of the Sun just got stronger as well. He might honestly be multiple Sun Deities. Also I literally made a comment about Luffy being Baldur the day before it is released in Chapter 1043 that he "Dies", my comment was about someone major dying but since it's one piece I didn't think Oda would actually kill Luffy with him also being Baldur cause Baldur dies in his story. I thought it would at least be in Elbaf and that others would help him control his awakening by having sabo "kill" him. But HOLY SHIT the plot thiccckens.

I don't know if anybody said this. But being Wano heavily inspired in Japan, and Japan being the land of the rising sun, it makes a LOT of sense that Luffy has his awakening there

The detail of Kaido not bringing Luffy's corpse actually makes sense. He's not proud of his win and doesn't want to show them his non-win.
He also prob respects luffy enough to not do it, because he doesn't want to shame him further. He already feels horrible about how it went down. Remember, he considered his execution of Oden to be mercy (the oil part was not Kaidos idea).
I think this is very insightful. Kaido must feel kind of meh about winning in that manner

“the person who can bring the dawn” or “rising sun” is a reference as well in my opinion to Luffy’s ship as well. The people will wait to see the Sunny sail over the horizon to free or rescue them. It will be a calling card to the people.
The moment i heard "Joyboy" for the first time i had luffys smile in mind. Always believed there cant be anyone else in this series more fitting to have this name.
The first thing that came to my mind when you said that Kaido declared that Luffy was dead and the a crazy heartbeat started from his body, was that probably that was the reason Kaido tried to kill himself several times, maybe he knew that this was the way to awaken that power somehow, but probably there was a requirement for that. I had no idea about any of these since I don't read the manga, but this was what I instantly thought after hearing what happened. Crazy things are about to take place!!

This makes no sense to me. Why would Kaido be devastated he killed Luffy If he knows that you can only be Joyboy if you die. He just made Luffy Joyboy by killing him. When he dropped Luffy off the island he said "You couldn't be Joyboy either". That reads to me that he genuinely thought Luffy just died and had no thought of him getting back up.
I'm just going to throw it out there that this "drum" is actually Luffy's heartbeat reaching others through the voice of all things

I like how Zunesha says “I can hear the drums of liberation” and kaido says how he’ll enslave all of wano if they don’t listen. It’s totally a reference to the book. Also we had a manga/chapter cover of Luffy drawn as Nika and the hair matches up. So if Luffy somehow has no connection to the Sun god I’d be stumped
Kaido declared that Orochi was dead and let’s just say, he doesn’t have a great track record declaring deaths..
Orochi did die though it’s just his fruit is an 8 headed dragon so you have to kill him multiple times.

I think him having a legendary fruit that has to do with the sun would give very nice parallels to blackbeard.
Blackbeard got his fruit at a relatively old age after carefully planning for it, Luffy at a very young by pure coincidence.
Blackbeard knew about his fruits op powers way before he ate it and specifically searched for it, while Luffy only found out about it after training for years not knowing how extremely powerful it actually was.
Blackbeard istantly began using his fruit´s op powers and relying on them, while luffy trained hard, not even realizing how powerful it was.
Blackbeard basically choose to cheat, while Luffy put in more work than necessary.
Blackbeard knew the name of his fruit way before eating it, Luffy only finds out about it years later.
Luffy got his fruit while getting to know new allies, while Blackbeard betrayed his old allies.
Blackbeards fruit is darkness, luffy´s the sun.
That would explain why he can use Red Hawk a punch of fire.

Luffy took the hardest/long/honest path, Blackbeard took the easiest/shortcut/dishonest path. Two sides of the same coin
just remembered something. Kaido wanted to die / commit suicide several times before and failed, so maybe he was trying to awaken himself as joy boy by killing himself which is maybe a prerequisite of becoming joy boy. What happened in 1043 is where kaido may have killed luffy and this has lead to luffy getting awakened as joy boy.
That’s probably why he looked so disappointed at interruption of their battle. He wanted to know who was the real Joyboy

Kaido cannot be joy boy. He thought that dying activate the awakening, but it is the willing to live and not about willing to live for yourself, but for others.

The SFX in this chapter that shows Luffy's heart-beat is the thing that sounds to Zunesha as "Drums of liberation". This part is insane: those exact same SFX were used for the sounds of the drums going when Luffy was partying under the moon in Skypiea before he attacked Enel the next day and what's even crazier is that the silhouette of Sun God Nika and the Luffy partying/dancing stance that everyone compares the silhouette was drawn in the same panel! Oda is INSANE!!

The panel of Luffy smiling, parallels how Oden died smiling. Meanwhile, Luffy does return to life. For a sec. there it felt like Oden received his inherited will before his death (or just the knowledge we assume he has, as previously shown through his log.).

Yes, Luffy had died i guess after that beating because the panel written above him stated the same as Corazon while doing his no sound power. It means Luffy had stopped producing sound-no breathing. And in the last chapter, the heart started beating again but in another verse, because Zunisha heard it as the drum of liberation. I hope Oda-sensei get a healthy life.
It's probably similar to you you hakusho's yusuke his heart stopped and then he was revived in his own personality by a demon spirit

Luffy’s will tried to unlock it the first time he lost to Kaido. I think with the combination of him learning to harness conqueror’s haki on top of him constantly evolving his devil fruit just required him to truly experience utter defeat that put him on deaths door. The “will of D” is possibly the will to defy death. Which makes whoever has it push beyond their normal boundaries and unlock hidden potential to keep fighting for ex. Luffy not falling again when he should have lost to Lucci. His Gatling got faster and more powerful for an instant. Also against Katakuri he fought all night no matter the injuries till he won. His “will” refused death time and time again. Also his pure heart was the final requirement no matter what happened he tried to fight for what was right all the time. Luffy was gaining the power for the devil fruit this whole time.
There's also the smile when Roger, Ace, Saul and even Luffy had on their faces when they died/where about to die, it seems that it represents they accepting their deaths in a way they have chosen.
That make sense, the naturals enemy of gods because they want to defy death
Tbh, I understand the part “The drums of liberation” as referring to Luffy's heart beat-not the return of Joy Boy. Or to be more précised. I understood it more, like the heart of Luffy now carries the will of Joy Boy, and his heart beating again after death is the sound of those “drums”. (Something like “King Engine” from One Punch Man)

There's so many little details in this chapter. The chapter also parallels the end of Marineford.
At the end of Marineford, Shanks stepped in to end the war declaring that anyone who wants to fight can fight them. In the chapter, Kaido declares that whomever wants to fight must step forever.
We have the "death" of a D. Clan member after an arduous battle.
We have a young, scared boy who must steele himself to stand for what he believes in (Koby and Momo)
At Marineford, Luffy finally falls to the exhaustion and trauma. He cannot continue. On Onigashima, despite falling to the exhaustion, Luffy is once again filled with JOY(boy).
I love seeing these parallels and what they could mean for the future.

But i think the reason why shanks stop kaido before is because of this JoyBoy maybe shanks tell to kaido that wait 2 years and the only person who can stood up to him will be born because they said that one on one ,kaido will win so this is the dream of kaido ever since thats why he said to luffy when he beat him second time that he couldnt be a joyboy either. So this time when joyboy emerges in body of luffy this is what he is waiting for and he will be satisfy now in his boring life that he wants to end his life in a great way

As a native Javanese myself, after watching this then I started to associate “Jayabhaya” (pronounced as Joyoboyo) with Joy Boy and “Jaya” (means “victorious” or “glorious” in Indonesian) with the Jaya Island, the land that once prosperous.
If Manu was right, my mind will surely blown away for how Oda-san took some references out of my own history book and put it into his own legendary story.

Bro so this is my theory on “joy boy”. The reason zunesha was able to recognize the “drums of liberation” as joy boy is not because of a reincarnation. But it’s because of literally the beat of luffy’s heart. Stay with me…luffy’s heart increases blood flow so he can do incredible things with his body. How does the blood flow increase? The heart pumps faster and faster!!! So if this devil fruits awakening is in a sense a “gear 5” then his heart is most likely pumping at extreme speeds. Hence the “dum dum dum dum” in the chapter. So zunesha has not heard a heart beat like that in 800 years because the last person to awaken the fruit was the original joy boy, so she thinks she is hearing the original joy boy when it’s just luffy awakening his devil fruit for the first time. This is why Who’s Who was punished so severely cause the world government was probably hiding that fruit for 800 years and didn’t want it to ever be awakened again. Now another question comes up if my theory on if the world government was actively hiding the fruit is correct is…did shanks truly know what he was stealing? And if so…how?

@Airzel It is, Oda clearly drew a male elephant as Zunisha, I just looked up the difference between a male and female elephant, Zunisha is a male if it has a gender and isn't an ancient weapon.

@@Buddyrtc I understand but what I think is that luffy is dead but his will is still there we all know that luffy dies because even momo can't feel luffy's presence anymore and there's no reason for luffy to smile after he died like ace and others knowing that kaido wins and people in wano will still suffer, no way he's smile and be satisfied about it. So I think his will is still there and maybe luffy is dead for like 10 sec until Joy Boy posses his body or something happens that's why he is smiling because he has something in his sleeve that can beat kaido while luffy is in a state of death if that make sense. Like around those 10 secs that luffy was dead, luffy learn something new then got revive by joy Boy Boy his DF awakening(head canon)

I found a theory where it suggest that luffy's awekening might be that he is turning into natural rubber from tree barks (which is classified as resin) instead of processed rubber. So luffy's body might be able to behave like katakuri after this.

I just wanted to add an observation, that might be important as well:
Whatever is melting on or over luffy, it is going to flow "upwards".
I had a lot of thinking in the last day's about it and I concluded, that we might see a luffy, gaining the capability of "fusion" power.
This would explain the heating and transformation capabilities before. As well, fusion on the sun creates gas (helium) from hydrogen. So, it would explain, why he flies and can grow.
There is always a lot of nebular gases around him in each from.
Those "edelgase" are non conductive, which means, they would be inert to electricity. Would be in agreement with his fights against Enel.
What would fusion be good for? It can creates heat, light and enables to change material.
For me it would be the best counter to black beards dark fruit, which inhales everything. Luffy would bring light and exhale or create new material.
It might to a certain degree even allow him to dive or create oxygen in vacuum. We will see.
I don't know if fusion itself would be to much of "physics" here, as Oda needs to explain thing simply, but it would be a great solution. I wouldn't be a fan of a resin, vulcanize or melting luffy. Even if I would as well like him to become a giant, picking up the sword and riding with Zunisha.

I have a feeling that Kaido knew of the importance of Wano, hence decided to stay. At some point in life he might’ve believed he was Joyboy (king flashback), and when he realized he wasn’t he became a depressed suicidal alcoholic. In his frustration, he decided to be the one who is going to “welcome” the actual Joy Boy by getting killed by him, and thus fulfilling his goal of having a glorious death.
It would be an epic way of going out, being the first rival of the reincarnation of Joyboy on contemporary times.

What if Luffy's devil fruit has much more power and ability than is accessible to Luffy, but it limits what Luffy can use until he proves himself to the devil fruit.

He was the one that has that fruit with him since the beginning and the one that talked with the Five Elders about Certain Pirate (Luffy's). I think that Shanks gave Kiado a road ponyglyph to leave marineford alone.
Kaido holds Shanks up there with Rocks, Roger, Whitebeard and Oden. They definitely fought to some degree and Shanks proved to be too strong to just be able to mop him up and make it to marineford with enough stamina left to take on the marines. Crazy theory here: ages ago, Luffy learned to control his heart with the power of his fruit. It was said that this form of using his fruit would "reduce his life".
What if his "death" was not caused by Kaido, but it was simply the effect of the awakening of his fruit? Like, the "so called death" was merely his heart stoping due to his fruit awakening, like a "reset", that leads the heartbeats to change.

To me, it seems more like that a hidden "consciousness" awakened inside Luffy. Or maybe it was never hidden but part of Luffy himself. Luffy is always able to laugh in the face of danger, despair, and many other negative things. This part of him, which is always to laugh, is maybe the "hidden" consciousness I was talking about. The MVP for Luffy's growth is Rayleigh. Remember that the righthand of the Pirate king knows everything. They explore the whole SEA and learned the history. Rayleigh taught luffy on how to use 3 types of haki. But Oda didn't spoil us about how Luffy manage to attain gear 4th. Basically, Rayleigh gave Luffy some pointers on how Joyboy used the ability. Rayleigh somehow knows a bit with the ability because Joyboy left some message about himself including his ability.
What if Kaido knew about Joyboy because of Xebec? What if Xebec told him about the legend of Joyboy. And at young age, he fantasize this story and dreamt to become the Joyboy of present era. He also get more interest with it when he met King. But everything changed when he fought Oden and got enlightened about Joyboy. So he waited for the right person to come in Wano and claim the title of Joyboy. Another thing that bothers me is that, Kaido knows that Joyboy will appear within someone who will die and wake up as Joyboy. That is why he kept commit suicide for 25 years. It is not losing his WILL to live. He wanted to die to acquire that WILL.

It was literally one of the few instances where I kind of regret that I was part of the group that reads the spoilers on Mondays and Tuesdays. But I also wasn't spoiled because I spoiled myself. This instantly reminds me of the Jim Carrey movie The Mask with Luffy transformation as Joyboy, the goofiness of it
"melt away together with his strawhat" is a bit misleading as we see that throughout the entire chapter Luffy's hat is never on his head but actually under his back/neck. Even the very second to last page in the chapter shows the hat is underneath Luffy as they zoom in next page on the grin and melting. In the very last panel you can very clearly see Oda also made a point to show that Luffy's shirt is also NOT melting. Clearly whatever is dripping off of Luffy is his hair/part of his body - his clothes and the hat are seemingly not melting along with him.

There is something i dont think i have seen anyone ever point out is when you add heat and sulfer to rubber it vulcanizes. Which makes it stronger, resistant to abrasion and retains elasticity over a greater range of temperatures. We already know luffy has rubber properties and fire power. Just a thought maybe luffys devil fruit awakening is vulcanized rubber.

Fast forward to 1043 chapter, JoyBoy exchanges his essence for Luffy to come back to life but now, inheriting the true power of the devil fruit which is what the awakening is.
I'm fairly certain the look and design of the "melting" action is how Oda draws the release of souls, very similar to how Brook's soul powers make him look "melty", so it seems Joy Boy's soul, whether it was hidden in the Gomu Gomu no mi or otherwise, is literally coming out of him.
But I love that one reddit comment that said how "This is how rubber fought in ancient times."
It's really fitting how Luffy had to be defeated three times by Kaido for Joy Boy to awaken. Even with the tales of Journey to the West, during their journey, Sun Wukong once challenged an extremely powerful enemy known as the Ox King three times and lost all three. The first round was just by himself, the next two rounds were with help from some of the Heavenly Taoist Gods; but it wasn't until he sought advice and assistance from the Bodhitsatva Amitabha (Guan Yin in Chinese) that she (they?) revealed the true nature of the Ox King and essentially tamed him back to being a loyal animal. I can actually see a resemblance if Joy Boy ends up being the divine force that helps Luffy take on Kaido.
What's important to note, though, is that the Ox King later returns in the story as a powerful ally for Wukong. This definitely was a rare thing that Wukong would ask for help from his old enemies. Possible that Luffy and Kaido will eventually fight on the same side down the line? But most likely way down the line for a final confrontation with Blackbeard, perhaps?
It Might have to do with that grim reaper zoro was seeing. Maybe the festival at wano or onigashima's skull has a connection to th underworld. Kiado said there was a reason why he stayed in Wano and that its special. Oda has stated that Wano is an important arc with a lot to do with the end of the series. I still think there's a chance the one piece or raftel might be in the underworld. Davy jones locker.
I believe in the end Kaido will truly ally himself with Luffy and stay back to take on all of world government coming for luffy at wano and let luffy and straw hats escape. Something like that
@@kwstasef1752 you do have Zuenisha still but also I like the idea that because luffy “died”, that affected his Vivre card so the whole grand fleet is going to show up and help them with the navy when they leave.
@@felixowen2693 Yeah its possible that will happen too cause in the end there must be a huge party after the liberation of wano and if the world government is still chasing them I doubt that will happen. I cant wait to see what Oda will show us next :D

Remember that before we learned more about Kaido, what we knew about him was that he wanted to die. He simply could not die. As we went through Wano, we learned that a deeper goal of his was to become Joy Boy. If Luffy just seemingly "died" and is now becoming Joy Boy then the theory that dying was the requirement for Joy Boy to return is all the more likely.
Theres a hole tho. As we see in chapter 1041 the FIVE ELDERS directly ordered to kill luffy. There has been many hints where the five elders know the void century so how do they not know this? and they just have to know because how would kaido know then when hes only been with rocks. Unless they get something out of luffy awakening/joyboy reincarnating then it makes no sense

That the ultimate awakening of the devil fruit would be to awaken the spirits, skills and power of the previous devil fruit users.
That would imply that Joyboy was the previous user of the Gomu Gomu no mi.
Another example, Sabo mentions after eating the mera mera no mi, that " Ace is saying he won't forgive you" to Burgess. And uses Hiken without any previous knowledge of the fruit.
This would also create another layer of chaos in One Piece 😄 what evil devil fruit users lurk inside other devil fruit users 👹

I find it more likely that luffy will "meet" the joyboy that left his will in the devil fruit he ate, to enlighten him on something and give him new strength. I know its kinda boku no hero-y but I dont think joyboy is gonna take over luffy's body.

I think luffys fruit is the resin fruit. The resin of the devil fruit tree somehow turned into a devil fruit. Maybe joyboy was somehow able to put his will into that special resin, kinda like swordsmiths. It'd also make a ton of sense since resin is the thing that rubber is made out of.
Hmm. A possibility to be sure. I like this. Although this is a theory within a theory, considering that a "Devil Fruit Tree" isn't canon at this point.

I have heard about Sun Wukong fruit, Smile fruit, resin fruit, rubner fruit, .... And every single one seems at the least possible and interesting. Oda is just built different

Kaido definitely knows a lot about Joyboy and wanted to be him. Maybe he knows that it requires a devil fruit to become Joyboy. If he knows that be huge clue because he chooses to eat a zoan himself and was very interested in Yamatos fruit also a zoan. So if kaido knew that there is a special devil fruit you need to be Joyboy, it is a huge hint that the legendary fruit is a mystical zoan... Maybe son wukong

well theres another theory that shanks talked to the Gorosei about a certain pirate which was luffy and how dangerous he is so they wanted him dead ASAP like you say..buuuuuuuut shanks could lie to them because he found out that luffy can awaken his devil fruit only by "dying" so he set a trap..which means shanks could be good and not evil ;p

JUST REMEMBER even when luffy was knocked out last time people could still Hear his voice while he was knocked out. Now the voice has “vanished”, that is not luffy at the end of the chapter hes dead or in a state right now where joyboy in complete control
The fruit is probably like brook's where death is a condition for its awakening. I have no idea what exactly is happening with Luffy so we'll just have to wait and see

It would be too controversial if nika took control if anything i expect to see a more fiery or passionate luffy when he we see him return to the battlefield for a final fight(hopefully) with kaido but he will still be luffy imo

Ohara, here’s the thing that often gets ignored. When a character eats a DF they somehow end up learning it’s name. In luffys case, after he ate the fruit it was Shanks and Lucky Roo who told luffy about the fruit and it’s name. They proceeded to show a sketch and call it the gomu gomu no mi and said that whoever ate it their body would turn to rubber. Here’s the weird part, luffy just rolled with it. He did not corrected shanks about the fruits name not being the gomu gomu no mi instead that it’s name was (blank). Given Luffy’s age at that time he could’ve just ignore the name and gone with the name shanks and lucky Roo said also it could’ve been a move by oda to hide it and later reveal it. So if this is the case, then it’s safe to say that luffy hasn’t tap into the actual abilities of the DF and has been using it as if was another fruit. As far as the awakening, I feel like some questions will be answered. Among those are questions like what is the real name of the DF? Who did it belong previously? Is it a mythical type? And so on. However, currently the community has been focusing on two major things. One is wether luffy died and is being possessed by joyboy. While the other is luffy awakening to its DF true abilities. Regardless, this is some of the information we could learn, also one thing I would like to learn is wether DFs have triggers or requirements to their awakenings.

Oda said in an SBS that he loved the idea of his main character having an unimpressive ability but Luffy does his best to use its full potential. That's why I don't think it's going to end up being a Zoan fruit. Check out the centre colour spread for chapter 1039, it heavily points to some kind of slime/tree sap... I'm thinking rubber resin...
i really think so too. Oda also mentioned that he wants to be able to draw a particular something that revolves around luffy so maybe its how to draw the unimaginable power of luffy.
I've seen this argument a lot lately. My question is why does Luffy's devil fruit being special take away from what he has done for over 1000 chapters thinking it was just a rubber fruit? It doesn't. The power of the fruit when unawakened is unimpressive in the hands of someone who doesn't have the creativity and will to make it special. I think it is poetic that this fruit requires the user to be extraordinary for it to then be extraordinary for its user. I hope the fruit is a mythical zoan. it would not make sense that the Gorosei were talking about how the name of a devil fruit was changed and hidden from the government for it to only be the resin fruit instead of the rubber fruit.

You might be right lol, I have switched sides from a Mythical Zoan to Resin-Resin fruit...still doesn't instill fear in me like a Mythical Zoan would If I were a Gorosei haha
I can't believe one man's story, Oda sensei, can captivate the world so much that theories upon theories have been formed for a story been told by someone like us. Absolute genius. One Piece is the GOAT of all manga/anime in my opinion.
i think blackbeard's fruit being a counter isn't as simple as "darkness" vs "the sun" but rather... looking at Luffy's form and potential to truly manifest his ideas into reality, it might make the most sense to look at it like "antimatter" vs "matter" the anti-devil fruit vs. the ultimate devil fruit, u know?
Kaido was suuuuper interesting this chapter. He seemed depressed and like he gave up on needing Wano. Like he gave up on the concept of Joy Boy.
Based on previously laid out repeating patterns all through the series, I’ve come to the conclusion that not only is Joy Boy and the Sun God Nika the same person, I also propose the backstory of Joy Boy himself.
I think that “The One Piece” was a treasure and a dream inherited by Roger himself when he found Laugh Tale. What Roger actually discovered on that island is simply a story detailing the life of Joy Boy - and a declaration that whosoever finds the island and it’s secret now gets to have the “One Piece”.
But let’s start at the beginning. A great calamity was set loose upon the world - a being so legendary and terrible that his actions caused great turmoil upon the world. A giant, the strongest one, so strong that it is said that he could pull continents, was causing great harm upon many nations. This great giant was known as Oars.
And so…many warriors came from far and wide to try and stop this creature. And here comes none other than the great warrior Nika! Hair a flaming red and one who had strange abilities - the ability to stretch! Finally, the two meet in an epic battle - one that lasts many days! And to everyone’s surprise…the two are completely evenly matched! And in their battle, an appreciation for each other grew…and eventually, an understanding.
Nika realized why Oars had been so upset. He’s simply hot…burned by a sun that he cannot hide from due to his immense size. And so…Nika realized the only way to stop him. Not by combat…but by creating for him…a hat. A Straw Hat. A gigantic Straw Hat.
Oars, being the simpleton that he was…claimed that Nika had control over the sun! A Sun God! This scenario alone already uses a lot of pre-established tropes, themes and previous scenarios within One Piece. Just to name a few: A fierce battle between two fighters over a trivial cause - Dory and Broggy. Norland and Calgara’s relationship from enemies to friends. Zoro and Sanji’s unceasing rivalry. The argument between Dog Storm and Cat Viper, Duke of Night and Day. Shanks and Buggy’s rivalry and Buggy bringing it up due to the hat.
An unlikely friendship between a smaller creature and a giant (Usopp and the Giants, Robin and Saul, Brook and Laboon, Ace and Oars Jr.). It was the Ace and Oars Jr. comparison specifically that made me draw that direct comparison. Ace created a japanese STRAW HAT to shield Oars Jr. from the sun.Also, due to Sun God Nika’s lanky and flexible silhouette, I’m inclined to believe, due to other plot points literally revealed by the same character in Chapters 1017 and 1018, that Sun God Nika had none other than the power of the Gomu Gomu no Mi.
This is why that devil fruit was valued. The same way that the World Government is keeping the giant Straw Hat by Oars. They are RELICS, symbols of power and objects that are a direct evidence to the true story hidden in the Void Century. More on this later.After Oars was defeated, after the “Sun God calmed the Disaster”, the two became the best of friends. They would both laugh and laugh, so much that Oars’ laugh can be heard for miles. But then, finally, Nika must depart and continue on his journey. Oars is both sad and intrigued. Why does he leave? To which Nika simply responds - to see the world. And it’s great treasures! For you see, Nika was not just some warrior…he was a brave warrior of the sea. A Pirate, even, to some. And one probably in search of a great treasure… Oars is inspired. And he decides to help his newfound friend. But instead, he wants to compete. He wants to find the great treasure first…and give it to Nika. And so, the two agree on a promise…Nika sails one direction…while Oars sails the other. And then, at the other halfway point of the world…they will meet again. And perhaps, either one will now have the Greatest Treasure in their possession. The great warrior Sun God Nika’s adventures takes him to many great kingdoms and change them for the better. Each new island Sun God Nika came upon was saved by his immense power and kindness. He freed slaves, brought down tyrants and even promised to save the most hated race - the Fishmen that live under the sea. And so, in his epic journey…Sun God Nika came to be known as Joy Boy. And it was then that Joy Boy realized what were the greatest treasures that he found all over the world…it’s people. His friends. (The greatest treasure were the friends we made along the way. I know that’s cliché but goddamn it’s a theme that fits.) As he gathered friends, nakama, followers all over the world, perhaps even 20 kings who swore to him with sake cup in hand…Joy Boy just grew more excited to meet his oldest friend once more and close this tale. To share Bink’s Sake and to drink it as equals, a tradition started by the brethren that joined him. Among them, was a curious individual who eventually became his second in command…a man known as Im.
Nika was reaching the half-way mark. He was soon to see his friend Oars once more. But…as fate would have it…a cataclysmic natural phenomena has separated the two. A series of volcanoes around the world all erupted at the same time…creating an impenetrable mountain ring that spans the entire world! A Red Line… Like before, you likely would have seen the parallels already. I think Mother Carmel going for the Sun Imagery and saying “The Sun God Calmed the Disaster” was her directly quoting scripture of sorts - specifically the religion around the Sun God Nika.
Other than that, there’s these examples: The promise of adventure and hats, and great treasure. Shanks and Luffy is the most obvious parallel here. But that departure due to the call to adventure is also similar to Norland leaving Calgara, or even Yassop leaving Usopp. Luffy’s journey in general is poetically the same journey Nika once took. And perhaps, one that actually finishes what Nika started. This is why Luffy is “the man Roger was waiting for”. Without knowing it, setting sale from the island of “Dawn”, Luffy retraces the steps of Sun God Nika before him.
The drinking of the sake cups as a swearing of friendship as well as Bink’s Sake are obvious things that SHOULD be part of this entire backstory, I think.
And lastly, going back to Norland and Calgara once more, an unstoppable natural phenomena prevents the reunification of the two - the same way the knock up stream changed their fates, the creation of the Red Line tragically meant that Nika…would never see Oars again.
Also, one other side note here. I think Shanks is descended directly from Sun God Nika. This could be why Roger even brought along such a young child in his final voyage. Roger would have known about Nika even from just Lodestar Island. And also, this is why Shanks was crying terribly when Roger told him what he found - that his ancestor was never reunited with his friend.
I also like the theory that Shanks is Rocks’ son that Roger took in after he killed Rocks. It could be why he’s so powerful and why he thinks HE should be “King of the World” because that was what Sun God Nika technically was.
And so…Sun God Nika was on the verge of despair…when through the gloom, several miles away…he heard a familiar sound. A laugh. A laugh that echoed through the mountain itself! And then…it was then that he knew. His friend was waiting for him. Oars was waiting for him on the other side. Each day, Oars would try to punch through the Red Line and laugh and laugh, trying to send his message across the divide! A laugh that only his friend would recognise.
Direct comparison here is none other than Laboon’s call that he does against the Red Line, to call forth to Brook. And of course, bashing his head against the Red Line was likely what Oars tried to do as well.
Sun God Nika…Joy Boy…he knew. He knew what must be done. This Red Line must be torn down…but he wasn’t gonna be able to do it alone. He rallied his old friends, journeyed back to lands he visited before. The Kings that swore to him, he gathered. All of his nakama knew and sympathized with Nika’s story…his dream to see his friend again! And so, with their combined efforts, they formulated a plan…one that involved creating these truly world changing powers - ones that were eventually known as Ancient Weapons. But their true purpose…was to destroy the Red Line. To end the divide. To make the world whole again. To make it…One Piece. The very friends he treasured, all gathered together to fulfill his dream…it created a great alliance. And soon after, a nation. A Kingdom with one purpose - to unite the world. And all of their hopes and dreams, thrust upon this one plan - the One Piece. Joy Boy’s dream. Alas…it did not come to be. Joy Boy was betrayed. For what reasons, I can only speculate. Perhaps Im thought he could better rule this Kingdom rather than following his friend’s foolish dream. Who knows. But a betrayal was committed…and the reason for this formed alliance between these kings was corrupted. A great civil war takes place…which ends in the death of Sun God Nika. And then…an age of darkness. Where all light is snuffed out, and the true tale that brought upon the age…was hidden. A void century where dreams and legends live…no longer told.
And with that…that dream was passed on. Despite the best efforts of darkness to bury the truth…the light prevailed. All until one dying man, who knew the complete story, used his dying breath…to light the fires that will set the world on fire!
