too good
*Puts 17 months on a big artwork*
A man: $200, sir.
*Sneezes on a paper*
A man: $627892, sir.
Warhol came on paper and sold it :D
Damn that's kinda gross
@@Cowaco lmao
For real dude hahaha
It's funny because that's so true lol
Your pricing is unbelievably reasonable, considering your experience and expertise!! As a wise RUclips Animator, Andre Terbea once said “your time is valuable so put a price tag on it!”
I'd say maybe even too humble. He should consider selling that last piece for even more...he's been a professional artist for so long and he poured 450 hours of his hard work and talent into one masterpiece.
Ayyyy I liked cause andrea
If he sells the piece for 100k, that's 220$ per hour.
Seems quite generous, but considering a lot of us would quit within the first 20h, it's quite a reasonable offer.
Great video! That's really good sketch for free...
Well, people buy a comic book or graphic novel so he´s not handing sketches out willynilly (what I think is a good thing.) Still great quality tho!
VZA lmao
I W a N T
JamesRaiz can you draw Giganta from the Avengers ?
Can you shout out me the artist of Gremlin Comics Ricardo Mackey . Im a unknown comic book artist
to me that starwars piece should be going for atleast 500k , 100k is under selling it, still has to be the best and most detailed starwars piece every drawn
Calm down abit
Why? he isn't mad or anything.
@@nonn7857 hes talkin bout the price
Nixon JP Trebejo why 500k
Not to mention the fact that it's a work inspired by a franchise wirth much much more
$50 per hour, that's very reasonable considering the quality and originality.
George Lucas is going to be surprised on his upcoming birthday;)
More like $250 per hour
50 for 30 mins to an hour. 100 for 1 or 2 hours. That’s what the poster you replied said. Where are you getting 250?
$100,000 / 400 hours = $250 an hour.
Josh K Fool he says that that has sentimental value which does not mean that somebody will pay what he wants for it. he totally lays out his prices on what he charges for his customers I am it’s nowhere near $250 an hour
It doesn't look finished for $100,000. The color job is novice compared to his drawing and inking where he's specialized in.
"If you're good at something, don't do it for free."
- I forgot who the hekk said this line.
Barlaps Gaming Joker
love that line :)
I think it always depends on the circumstances! If you are rich as hell you should pay for it! If the kid's family is poor you should do it for free. Well. That would be kinda hard to know, if you are on a comic con or so
Wrath's Bastard Son joker dark knight 🃏
The Joker in The Dark Knight (2008)
so many people don't realise how much time and patience you put into your art. As an artist myself it really sucks when people just assume it doesn't take any skill to produce art.
As a non artist who followed a tutorial on how to draw muscles I agree....took me 4 tries to get it right. You gotta try and try again I suppose
(At $1000) "Is there art that I would sell for even more money?"
"No." Ends video

What does nvm stand for.Im very bad with slang

Aqeel Maqsudi Welcome to the internet, the best song out there is Darude - sandstorm.
Nick D lmao true,
of course its worth it. hell people pay millions of dollars for piece of crap "modern art" that consist of a guy throwing paint on a canvas with no skill at all
The fact that that's your interpretation of modern art shows full well that you have no idea what you're talking about.
EDIT: These are just some small thoughts, so take them with a grain of salt.
I think the thing about modern art is that its values are different from classical art/other types of art. Instead of technique being the main star (like in other types of art), hidden meaning, uniqueness, and deviance are highly valued in modern art.
So it just depends on what you're looking for. If you value the values of modern art, then that seems more worth it for you. If vice versa, then pieces like James' are for you.
Emerson Yu
I understand that. I understand that some people just enjoy hidden meanings in somewhat pretty pictures. And, if done right, modern art can look aesthetically pleasing. What I dont understand is how people can spend MILLIONS of dollars on them.
Well in the beginning it said "all artists charge differently" so...
Also, I guess rich people just have that money. :P
well, in my opinion he need's the skill to throw but...
wow everything +150 is sooo detailed!!
love it so much
😂
Do you even know how much 100k is?
@@d-24 a lot... but do you know how expensive art is from really famous people? Millions for a painting that takes the artist 30 minutes or so...
You know, I’ve started watching your videos a while ago, and now I’ve finally subscribed. I love your work.
He draws so well so fast, and when he takes time to do stuff, *PERFECT*
You’re soooo under rated and your one of my favorite comic book artists
I am just 16 and with no work but... When i am older, I am definitely buying one of your artworks 😁😆👍🏽
You're gonna completely forget about this guy. Hell I bet you've even forgotten about him now, only remembering because I posted this message.
You won''t buy any of his art.
@@bailey125 How would you know?
+keplar Do you honestly think this guy is gonna remember a comment he made at 16 years old? I'm sure you made promises to yourself in the past too but you're gonna say you haven't, and only because you don't remember. Only a handful of people have memory that good so it's perfectly logical to make the assumption that this random guy on the internet will completely forget the comment he felt on some random video on RUclips.
@@bailey125 I'm not saying he's not gonna forget and hes gonna remember this 100% but maybe the guy is an idol for him and he will always remember him. low chance but possible xD
Reality hurts..
Awesome vid, James. Love the insight and the behind the scene shots of all your success. That Star Wars masterpiece is just something to behold...I can only imagine what it's like actually standing there looking at it. For me, it's the equivalent of an art major in the presence of the Mona Lisa. Thanks for sharing and taking us along for the ride!
Honestly for that many hours put into such a detailed piece this is worth it. I can't wait to see the new additions when they're made!
You are a GREAT artist! I love your comic book style! :D
$100,000 is very little for that artwork..
And a lot of rich guys would buy if you weren’t holding on to it
I work at a fancy retailer, a necklace is made of yellow gold and diamonds is $100,000 you can do better than that
there is very little style, just detail and style that the original star wars creators already put, pretty boring
Show me your piece so that I can compare it.
+Rohin Ghosh What about the composition? And the simple fact that it's a massive one of a kind Star Wars piece that includes characters and props from all the movies?
gold and diamonds have intrinsic value tho, bad comparison.
+Round Not really when you use them for jewelry. Then it's just whatever you're willing to pay for it.
Your art Is AMAZING,Everytime I see you draw a very detailed character my mind just goes BOOOOOOOOOM
Over the years there’s always a rare, unique, highly talented, Uber detailed artist that comes along to shake things up. You sir are that artist! Keep up the good work 👍
$100,000!?!? THAT'S IT!??? THAT'S WORTH MUCH MORE!! GO FOR A MILLION!!
Lol
Its not a painting dude. Comics dont really sell for that much more after the artist dies.
Some would argue that he's overcharging. Personally, I wouldn't pay so much when I could get something similar printed up for a few hundred bucks.
In my opinion, he's charging around the right amount. $100k would make that piece more profitable than becoming a medical specialist.
Hell no.
The 'value' of art is what someone is willing to pay for the piece.
As talented as this man is. He has no correlation to the series other than being a fan, perhaps if he had ties to the franchise as an art director or original designer, the value of his work would be far greater.
$100k is steep but that's due to the sentimental value James puts on it, he doesn't want to sell it hence the inflated price to potentially pass it on.
As impressive at it can be, fan art is treated entirely different to traditional art in the sense of monetary value.
If I were James, I'd probably use a pseudonym and pivot myself into the gallery scene if he was more fiscally inclined. That's just my own thought though, when it comes down to it, he does it for the love and that's invaluable.
I love the format of this video. I'm sure it brought in more people to your channel. It seems like click bait, but you stay true to who you are James and I love that.
I just came across your channel and man quality content. Seeing you and other comic artist's RUclips really inspires me to practice and study more. This video is also very informative although it's hard to do so here in the Philippines. More power to you!
Man all those drawings blown my mind! they looks awesome!
THAT IS SO COOL AND DETAILED I LOVE IT :O
So nice to be so open and honest. you sure deserved your fan base sir. count me in.
James your art work is worth so much more 😩 love your work!!! You inspire me so much!!! Thanks for all the videos and tips you make accessible to us!!! ☺️
Awesome drawings
Also this a good example of a refrence artist
You are awesome!!! It's been over 25years since i picked up a pencil to draw. However seeing your artworks is starting to motivate me, to go back to drawing.
I was actually just thinking about asking you this when I subscribed happy you made a video about it. Love you work Mr. Raiz.
that was awesome video and i really love you and your work ♥ Hope you always have the best
This is so frustrating. Sorry buddy, but you are so goog and your are undervaluing your profession so much! That's really sad
What does "goog" mean?
guys, come on. It means greag
And now the question is... What does "greag" mean?
Of course it means glorioug
ya mean glamoroug
Dude, I think that Star Wars piece was well worth more than that!
Excellent work, I might grab something of yours in the near future.
Amazing work! I’m a huge detail nut! So I can relate to “most detailed ever...” drawings- wow!
You're such an accomplished artist. It'll take me years to get where you are. Man i love the competition.
I love all that you have to say on this. I have to admit, I would like to charge those type of rates, but I don't have enough street cred yet. Though, customer service skills I am king. :) now just gotta turn that to some good coin.
Awesome also very interesting
Your work truly inspires me to get back out my art books and start filling them up.
GREAT ARTIST!!!! very humble and friendly ... I love your style, you're amazing
The 100 dollar deal is what I'd probably go for its not too unreasonable if I come across his booth at a con I would love a picture not sure what I'd want tho?
Hey James, just a quick question? How much did you earn as a beginning comic book artist? As opposed to now?
Work
Definitely some priceless work you have there. Absolutely amazing work
I love your videos, they get me motivated to draw and improve. Your positive attitude and skill give your videos life.
I'll put in a good word with George for ya;)
You've been drawing professinaly for 20 years. Ok. HOW OLD ARE YOU ? HOW IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE ? I Mean you like you're 32-33, did you start that young or did you stop getting old at some point ? XD
Great video btw, thanks for this answers I needed to try selling my stuff... Now just gotta get some clients right ?
Bye !
He is 39 years old, but look alot younger.
wow, yeah he does !
1000 subs with no videos Unless he was a prodigy, I doubt that he started drawing *professionally* at 5
Lil Ugly oh yeah yeah
Exactly. The professional part is the astonishing factor.
Amazing work! Love the detailed pieces!
Your work is astounding. The amount of detail it takes is crazy.
Damn, I have to keep working till the point where I can charge 20 for a rough sketch. I just made 30 on a drawing in the same quality as you would sell for 50-100
Pedro Gonzalez are you actually capable of equalling the quality of a 100$ James Raiz drawing? I'd like to see that
@@ernodios I can, but not in 1 hour like him. More like 3 to 4 hours
Are you making an artwork again like the $100000 one?
Such an amazing and interesting video, this was. :D thank you so much for all of your videos. You are the greatest drawer I have ever seen.
Looking at the Star Wars piece just makes me smile, it's so perfect
I sold 1 drawing for 10 cents. BUISNESS EVERYBODY
I sold 2 draws homework for 7,50$
Sadly not alota people appreciate art anymore...
I thought you were Justin Y. Lol
People still appreciate art
interesting video for anybody in the arts freelancing - your pricing is very fair, and you clearly love what you do, you've got a big smile on your face everytime you put pen to paper - i love that energy, it's very inspiring - i take my hat off to you sir!
DUDE! my 1st time here and WOW you got the skills! i can't believe the details! s many question so fascinating...
Wish I could sell my artwork for that much money lol
Jarod Krupp improve and get popularity and you’ll get it
Easy to say...
Gunnoo TV nothing worthwhile is easy. I’m sure Jamez worked his ass off to get to this level
Yeah totally
You are underpaid
It’s awesome that you take so much pride and confidence in your art by your price. It certainly looks like it is worth the price, not that I can buy it ofcourse!
Thank you for posting this. I've thought of this lots. Really helps with how I can maybe price my stuff. I love everything you draw and I've thought about how long your Star Wars piece took you. Thank you so much for the info :)
BMW M3 vs Piece of paper... 🤔
Sorry mate but I'm taking the M3.
You're nuts, by the way... 100k...😂👌
BUzzfeed?
kinda lol
This guy is such an amazing artist and he can do amazing artwork in such a short amount of time considering how detailed it is
amazing work, James!
YOU ARE SO INSPIRING JAMES!
Whoa! Didn't realize you had a Big O piece! Watching now! :)
Nice. The many years of commitment & dedicated at one point should be rewarded.
Be blessed.
I was looking at the price you had in the card of another video, but I wasn't clear on what you meant. This clears a lot up. Thanks :)
CONGRATS ON 600K subs!!!!!
Def worth it u put a lot of time into them and they turn out amazing Keep up the good work👍
Thank you for being so transparent with your pricing!
Honestly one of my favorite videos
I'm striving to become a graphic designer and sculptor! Seeing this and seeing that you're also a die hard star wars fan makes me want to become more of an artist. And since you make good bank with your drawings I can see this future career for me to pay quite nicely ;) lol
LOL but in all seriousness, you and other artists inspire me to do what you guys do. I'm in college now, just started few days ago... So I want to be determined to do art in my life and be as great as you!
Awesome man! I'm trying to step up my game as well as a comic artist! Still working on it. Your art is awesome!
Thank you James this is what I wanted to see
I just wanted to say that you're REALLY talented!!!
22 years ago, I received a scholarship to an art university for sequential art. I gave it up since it still wasn't enough to cover full tuition, let alone residency and such. Regardless, even back then, being nowhere near as skilled, I charged similar prices (adjusting for inflation at $100+). I know comic art isn't as appreciated as it should be, but I believe you heavily undervalue your talent. I know you do it out of love, but, DAMN!!!! Your hyper detailed pieces belong in galleries and your Star Wars piece really should be in a museum after being purchased for at least a half million.Too few people realize the difficulty in conveying depth of emotion, action, and perspective on a smaller scale. It took me 9 months to do just 4 pages of photo-realistic portraits using only stippling.
I'm bloody in awe, dude. Seriously.
Great video. You're one of the nicest artists out there.
Really great work. Fantastic skills!
This is fascinating I love your videos and thank you for your insight
You're a great talent, your videos are very informative and chock full of "insider" information. Thank you for sharing.
This is really insightful. Thanks for the video James. I was curious, what do you consider to be some of your weaknesses as an artist?
That was awesome, thank you for posting.
Finally a video regarding this!
You are incredible, so talented and hard working and amazingly kind. You could price at a lot higher they are that great. Fantastic work, keep it up👍
WOW!! That was super informative and cool
Great video as always. I was wondering if you scan the larger pages or do you photograph them as seen in this video?
Your star wars pic is inspiring. I am sure you hear that a lot. I have a star wars painting I could never get rid of
i love it ! they're all really cool !
Wow. Well, consider me a fan. Your style is fantastic! Do you ever make it out to any shows up in Michigan?
Amazing and helpful video! Thank you so much
Solid info. So I know you've been in the industry for a long time now. What were your prices looking like earlier in your career?
I think I've found my idol in drawing. Dude I see you as my role model now in art🔥🔥🔥🔥
I sold a painting to George and it is a great resume piece but sharing original art with people is awesome no matter who they are!
You really are amazing. And very humble. I said this before that star wars should be in a museum or seen as a national treasure. Would love to meet you at a con one day.
You are the best artists I've seen, and I wanna draw like you (obviously in my art style)
Worth every penny love the artwork
tbh I cant believe you have less subscribers than the ones who do just slice of life comics in youtube
kinda shadowing you over
you deserve more
I love your channel and your work! Incredible talent and an inspiration to a 2D pen and ink artist!
Great work!
