Maryutka would make a perfect camp warden. This film was my childhood trauma. The killing was absolutely heartbreaking. Always felt sorry for him. He wasn't even a bad guy. Love this mix of laughter and sadness in films. Just like in real life.

This is a film with a very humane touch in it made in the USSR after all. At least the Soviets showed the reality not only black and white. Unlike it's done in the Hollywood movies.

It’s very good film. Doesn’t look like 1950’s film. More like 70’s which shows the Soviet cinema way ahead compared with American one. But, still Communist really ruined Russia.
