I'm so glad you listened to And You And I _before_ listening to Close To The Edge. I really hope you'll listen to Siberian Khatru next before CTTE for you will then be fully prepared for the Magnum Opus that is CTTE. Generally speaking, if you take on the CTTE album from the beginning, you are dazed by the title track, then you get And You And I, confirming your perception of greatness, but then it finishes with Siberian Khatru which blows your mind all over again. The 2nd best way to listen to the album is doing it the way you're now experiencing it, listening to the second side of the album first & then finishing with the pinnacle. Enjoy!

Just "Close your eyes and listen." As most of us Yes fans well know, Yes music requires the listener to immerse themselves, with repeated listenings, and within the privacy of one's own head; therefore to allow the music to carry you on a journey within one's own soul. I trust you will well enjoy the journey! With Peace and Love to all! (Michael)

21y/o here! I was raised on classic rock having an older father who is a classically trained pianist. Yes is my all time favorite band and its not even close. They are so intentional with the way their music sounds and especially how they want you to feel. They created emotional masterpieces. I subbed after seeing your start to the Yes rabbit hole. I know you said you would have to find the time to do Close to the Edge but just know myself and plenty of others are excited to see your reaction! This happens to be one of my favorites from them too. Be well and take care 😌

Finally!!! This may sound silly or it may sound familiar but I used to take a really nice little boombox with two albums. "Close to to the Edge" & "Meddle". I would hike to my favorite mountain meadow in the White Mountains in eastern Arizona. This meadow had millions of wildflowers, butterfly's seemingly dancing in slow motion, deer grazing, a crystal clear Creek through the middle and I would light up and turn on "Echoes" then "And You And I" back to back! MAGICAL memories!
Pink Floyd is & probably will always be my favorite but "Yes" as I've said is from the same galaxy as Floyd and it's not the Milky Way!!!
GREAT REACTION to my favorite song from the brilliant magical YES!!!!!
The look on your face, the look of absolute satisfaction with your eyes closed listening to this song is the same thing we did the first time we heard this brilliant work of art!!!!!

Great reaction! Yes is my favorite band, and CTTE my favorite all time album. And You and I is my 2nd favorite on this album. CTTE, the title track, is a spiritual expereince. Block aside 18+ minutes for the studio version. It is awesome and still my fav 50 years later.

Right? I'm glad you hear what I was trying to say about them and Elven music. Now, the only one left on the album is the title tune. I'm kinda rubbing my hands together and smiling to myself in anticipation. Once you've heard it, imagine the experience of sitting down in front of a great stereo system and listening to the three songs of this album in order, Close to the Edge - And You And I - Siberian Khatru in one sitting. That first time was pure magic, accentuated by chemical assist. 😏

I actually haven't done Siberian Khatru yet 😅 but man, Yes is an experience. Great sounds all the time, and I love how it's literally a musical journey, doesn't feel like 1 solid beat through the entire song

I have found a new appreciation for music listening through headphone s, but YES, growing up we listened with friends around great hi-fi's, rolling and smoking joints in peace. R.I.P. to my great friend Michael who just passed last week - we listened to Yes together many, many times and in truth by the end I think we did mature in our eyes..

It's great that you're enjoying your journey through the "Yes classics" so much (I find many of these songs even better in the live version on the Yessongs album, but that's a matter of taste). Songs that I also count among the "classics" and that are often overlooked are Looking Around and Survival (1969); Time And A Word and Then (1970) and America (long version) (1972). The song "America" is based on the song of the same name by Simon and Garfunkel.
I don't want to interrupt your journey through the classics, but if you have time in between, I would like to draw attention to a song by Yes that I have grown very fond of. "Mirror to the Sky" from the 2023 album of the same name. Many say this band isn't "Yes" anymore, neither in the line-up nor in the spirit, but I love this song.

I love your reactions to this amazing music, and I would suggest sticking to the studio versions of the seventies classics before you venture into their live recordings, which in some ways surpass their recorded work.
The two main live recordings are Yessongs and Yesshows, which perfectly capture the fire that the band brought to their songs in the seventies.
The best live videos are Yessongs and the Keys to Ascension Live in San Luis Obispo, CA 1996.
There are also some good concerts with an orchestra from 2003, and a Live at Montreux video with their second classic line up, although they have lost some of that sventies fire due to age.

Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Moody Blues and Chicago Transit Authority are the roots of progressive music.

Once you work your way through the recordings, you may want to check out videos from "Symphonic Live," with an orchestra from 2001 and "Songs from Tsongas" from 2004--esp. "South Side of the Sky," on that one. Personally have seen about 50-60 concerts over three decades and think they are better live. If you can believe that.
