      Kenny has the numbers, as do a few other Bengals (Ochocinco), but the HOF is equally about wins. If the team doesn't win enough, the players often get overlooked.

    I remember watching this game from start of 3rd qt. Lived the snow I was 11. 1976 was first NFL season I paid attention from week 1 to the Super Bowl. Bengals where on of my 6 fav teams.

    We watched this game from our house, overlooking the Ohio River near Pittsburgh. After the game ended, we started preparing for the snow we knew was coming up the river from Cincy.

    The era when WRs had to be Green Berets to go over the middle while wearing Toys R Us approved helmets, training camp was full pads two a-days, no nutritionists or special diets, and unless you were a super star, you needed an off season job to pay the bills.

      Paul brown made the uniforms to look almost identical to the Browns. He hated Art Modell. And ironically won the AFC central in 1970 the first year of the merger over Modell s browns who were considered a powerhouse at the time.

      Grew up in the ' Burgh.....Hated Stabler, but respected Kenny Anderson, Brian Sipe and the Colts QB Bert Jones......feared every game we played them, even though we had the Steel Curtain!

      I agree. Football back then, announcers, presentation and all was better. It was smash mouth classic football. Todays game is different, but I will say it’s better now than it was 4 years ago. The game has improved now due to an influx of better QB play now. But again, it’s a completely different game today. Those announcers back then were priceless.

    Pittsburgh's defense was at it's very best in the 1976 season.

      They played a pretty soft schedule. In their 9 game win streak, only the Bengals had a winning record to end the season. They split with the Browns, beat the Colts in the playoffs, then lost to Oakland in a game that wasn't as close as the score. There were really only 5 good teams in the NFL that year: Oakland, NE, Dallas, Minnesota, and the Rams. The Cowboys and Rams weren't as good as the other 3.

    This Bengals team was a special bunch. Their punter/ tight-end was a Harvard boy. Their other tight-end was the great Bob Trump's, also a great color NFL analyst on NBC. I was still in high school when this game was played. I loved this team. But, their play-calling was too conservative. A great defensive unit!

      As a Steelers fan I hated Bob Trumpy as analyst. His dislike for the Steelers was no mystery. Ive heard Browns fans say they thought Trumpy hated on them as well..i think Trumpy was way worse than Cris Collinsworth when it came to being biases.

    Ken Anderson was a GOOD quarterback FOR SURE!!! GLAD he made it to Super Bowl XVI AND was an assistant with the STEELERS when they won Super Bowl XLIII. I’m JUST old enough to remember Curt Gowdy back in the early 70’s.

      Ya those guys were more humble back then. Didn’t make the huge money they do today. Weren’t being broadcast on 100 different sports channels, and social media like they are today. Only prima Donna player from this era was Hollywood Henderson maybe white shoes Johnson. But at least they were entertaining.

    Ask any player that played in that era (if they're still alive or have any brain cells left) about the turf of that era. It was horrible, like painted concrete. OSHA should've stepped in and banned it as unsafe work space.

      All those great Steelers knew their Assignments, and always wanted to Outtough you. Mel Blount Alone in the Secondary....changed the Rules.
      The Raiders Secondary was Dirty, and a Criminal Element....the Steelers played it tough hard and Fair..most of their penalties were procedure,or offsides, or offensive holding......the Raiders then were Headhunting Pricks

      Never got the accolades he deserved. Had some of his best seasons later in his career. Lead Bengals to first super bowl in 1981.

      I’d say Anderson is borderline. Had Anderson, like Namath, won a SB then he probably gets in. I do agree with you about Namath. I can’t see him in the HOF….also with Anderson having a career 2-4 postseason record doesn’t help his case either

      Anderson had a fantastic 1981 season. After several injury plagued season the bengals were about done with Anderson by then. He was even benched in the opener that season and Turk schoenert lead the bengals back after being down 21-3. He had some really good seasons in the mid 70s as well. He had a very up and down career. Played until 1986, but was a boomer esiasons back up his last few seasons. Only one bengal is in the hof. Anthony Munoz. These are probably the reasons Anderson isn’t in the hof.

      Yes he was. This was the season when turkey jones of the browns body slammed Bradshaw. I think he missed 6 games. Bradshaw retired after 1983 season.

    Those helmets were soooooo ugly they don't even honor them with throwback uniforms. When Paul Brown went to Cincinnati from Cleveland, he wanted to take even the Brown uniform, but this uniform was as close as he could get without copying them completely.Bob Trumphey(sp?) Was playing then but became one of my favorite announcers. Even though I live in another city with a sorry team (detroit), but I loved the announcers on NBC. The AFC on NBC. One thing that I didn't remember was that Dandy Don Meredith worked at NBC. Dick Enberg, Merlin Olson, Curt Gowdy, oh man those were the days. 4 or 5 channels was good enough as was the TV Guide.

NFL was fine was it was. Hes decided to try to squeeze any dime out of he can and do things that alienate its fanbase.

      This was the year the Steelers started 1 - 4 and then won the last 9 games. Bradshaw got injured in week 5 I think. The defense was incredible the rest of the way. They only allowed 28 points in the last 9 games with 5 shutouts. The greatest defense in the history of the NFL bar none. The only reason they lost to the Raiders in the AFC Championship was because Franco and Rocky were injured otherwise they'd have won 3 Super Bowls in a row

    I can't believe that commissioner Pete Rozelle did not fine Paul Brown for overall lack of originality of the Bengals' uniforms. It's the Browns' uniform with Bengals written in blocky lettering on the helmet.

      He intentionally made sure the the bengals uniforms looked like the browns. It was a mockery of art modell who fired Paul brown in 1962. Brown knew that the bengals were going to be placed in the same division as the browns when the leagues merged. It was no mistake.

    What I notice about these old football games is that the kickers weren't all that good. A fg or extra point wasnt almost automatic like they are today. Then you had the straight ahead kickers such as Don Cockroft of the Browns. Now they are all soccer style kickers.

    This is the worst i ever saw Jack Lambert play(my favorite defensive lineman) he really phoned it in. Watch how at the end of almost every play, he is consistently the guy still on his feet standing next to the pile with his hands on his hips. He almost never ends up on the ground.

      Lambert was a linebacker in the 4-3 defense. So he wasn't a defensive lineman. The Bengals only scored 3 points so the Steelers and Lambert must have done something right.
