Omg, I so relate to Martha's story! And really grateful that she talked about how although she limited her amount, the distress of the HABIT of drinking. I also can feel alcohol hit my system really quickly even though I’ve drank for decades. I am a psychotherapist and have used my daily wine habit as a way (I thought) to relieve my stressed from the day and clients problems. I am at the beginning of this journey and trying to just cut back, and eventually want to abstain completely (at least on most days of the year). Thank you for these inspiring stories. I’m finishing up This Naked Mind and plan on reading next The Alcohol Experiment and doing the 30 day challenge to see how I feel.
Just found this today. Thanks. You have a lot of content. I teach health at the middle school level and cover the topic of alcohol. I'm from Utah. We focus on helping youth to be aware of underage drinking and avoiding it in general because it's not good for your health in so many ways. Do you find in your field of expertise that there are people that start drinking at a later age because they didn't drink during their teenage years?
Another thought....being from Utah a lot of people here are of the faith The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A lot of people here think that it's just a "churchy" thing or a "Utah" thing, the rest of the world drinks. I beg to differ and believe there are people all around the world of different faiths and beliefs that don't drink alcohol. What are your findings on this? Thanks

Kudos to you for realizing that drinking was no longer working for you and for taking the steps to address that.

Yes, we have seen that in many stories. I didn't start drinking until after college really.
