If you liked the story and style of ME!ME!ME! you might also like the music video of the song "Fantasy" by French singer-songwriter "DyE". It was released in 2011, it's another well-known classic.
Yeah, *_"Girl"_* is the next video, also with Daoko (like this video) 🤭 But there's a couple slightly different versions with different video arrangements - I believe the "Japan Animator Expo" is the original one 🤔
A bit of explaination: The main character, Shuu, struggles with addiction to smoking, drugs, and pornography, which destroys his relationships, including with his girlfriend, Hana. Unable to cope with his behavior, Hana leaves him, and Shuu is left to confront the wreckage of his life. Realizing what he has lost, he desperately tries to change but repeatedly fails, trapped in a relentless cycle of fighting his addiction and falling back into it. The four-eyed girl represents his addiction, not just pulling him back but literally eating him alive, consuming him piece by piece every time he tries to break free. Her resemblance to Hana serves as a cruel reminder of what his addictions have cost him. Her vomiting into his mouth symbolizes the overpowering, invasive nature of his vices, like drugs or hallucinogens. The video portrays Shuu’s journey through indulgence, realization, remembrance, struggle, and eventual relapse, showing the devastating and consuming grip of addiction.
It is stunning how well you understood the message of the video on your first watch. I really wanted to see you react to the lyrics, but you don't need it at all! You got pretty much everything the video meant to show and reading the lyrics would only confirm your understanding of the video. I too felt really heartbroken when I saw it for the first time and tried so hard to show it to some friends but nobody could get past the "haha boobs" to understand how sad it actually was.
The thing is there’s no correct answer about the message of the video, that’s just people’s guesses. The author didn’t say anything about that. He even said that the motivation is to make erotic stuff.
@sakamatachloe-holoX- yeah, if I remember correctly the whole video was just a showcase of their abilities to make animations. Still even when the message is not a specific one, the lyrics and the metaphors used in the video tell you the story of someone who loses everything dear to them because of vices and even when they notice this and try to change they end up in the same cycle shortly after.
The mememe dance (and the sequence) has become so famous now that i laugh whenever its replicated somewhere but no one knows the reference. Pt3 of song is also my most fav, was ringtone for years and how i got introduced to teddyloid
The last time I saw this video was the year it was released in 2014, I was 15 and didn't quite understand what it was about, I liked the music and the visuals. I just felt that the story was deeper and darker than it seemed at first glance. But you, Luke, seem to have fully grasped the idea
You actually got it right. This is basically a video about porn addiction and how it can fuck someone up. Also you needed to watch this simply for the culture. It’s an internet classic.
The thing is there’s no correct answer about the message of the video, that’s just people’s guesses. The author didn’t say anything about that. He even said that the motivation is to make erotic stuff.
and we have a miracle in front of our eyes... Luke actually catching onto stuff completely by himself... not sure there is anything to add in a short amount of time... but you are spot on in the meaning... it had references to evangelion because of how psychodelic the situation is in the MCs mind, the 4 eyed mask is a reference to that as well... that is how psychological evangelion gets but not as explicit on screen as this... also the doom reference is a shoutout to himself fighting his demons, which you did catch... not much to say... it went viral precisely because of the video and music being able to portray so well what it meant to show us EVEN if we didn't KNOW what it was saying it still made us FEEL what it was saying despite the lack of words to describe it... Also the cheekiness helped quite a bit with the viralization part...
Saw the title and immediately knew this video was going to be 95% blur. At pretty much any point in the video my thought was "Don't worry, it only gets weirder". Also i dont remember but i think this was supposed to have a deeper meaning about porn addiction or drugs.
The thing is there’s no correct answer about the message of the video, that’s just people’s guesses. The author didn’t say anything about that. He even said that the motivation is to make erotic stuff.
This is a classic, i remember downloading this video because i knew it was going to be deleted from youtube, and i just looked at some older stuff on my pc and it was still there, its really weird but it kinda made me sad?
Mad lad, you actually went and did it! “Is this him fighting the addiction” thats how I interpreted it.. playing games to occupy self with something other than popcorn
The singer is Daoko! She is an amazing singer that has really perfected the soft whisper singing. Her music is so iconic and her voice is extremely recognizable. You should react to some of her songs too
What I do find a bit disturbing though, is the fact that she recorded this song while still being in highschool I think she was 16-17. She's a great singer still love her music
Hi Luke, yes, it was me! Lol. I can read the future. It's a genuine masterpiece if you see the artistic side of things. I'm glad it is now official. Lots of love Luke, hope you enjoy it! Suggestion, next time do "Girl," by Daoko, the full 7 minute video please. It is 99% RUclips Friendly... Probably... Edit: I'm sorry I didn't explain it to you the first time, but it isn't something you should explain until after doing a raw reaction. Edit 2: Just incase you didn't know, this is Daoko. You've heard some of her music before.
as others have mentioned, you hit the nail on the head, even without knowing the lyrics, the visuals told you everything and you understood it perfectly.
some info for mememe (Also yes its believed to be about addiction) its part of the Japan Animator Expo in 2014 a weekly collection of shorts or ONA (Original Net Animation) released as a collab with studio Khara that does Evangelion series and Dwango and bunch of the creators like Teddyloid in this another "interesting" animation i suggest is DYE "Fantasy" by Jeremie Perin
You are not wrong about this song at all. It's about a guy fighting his "pop corn" addiction, you can literally see the addiction eating at him at 8:25. This song is literally a warning what Popcorn addiction can do. You recently reacted to phao2phuthon (kaiz Remix) which was a massive trend on TT at some point and I found it so ironic that it took the dance from mememe essentially doing the exact opposite of the song with it (instead of warning about addiction they were kinda promoting it). This is a perfect example that Popcorn can be art too, weirdly enough there is HEN TI art out there that is not chicky but introspective like this.
The thing is there’s no correct answer about the message of the video, that’s just people’s guesses. The author didn’t say anything about that. He even said that the motivation is to make erotic stuff.
@sakamatachloe-holoX- Idk, maybe you're right. I saw the video and analysed the lyrics a long while ago. So I remember the conclusion I had and other redittors had were along these lines but it has been some years since. I didn't know if the original artist came back with an explanation of his vision.
Fact that this is in different lang, full with corn. And it still gives so much emotions that you are tearing show how masterfully this was made. 10:18 nah, men. You have this. Competely. Its a warning, story about guy who lost girlfriend and is basicaly a sl4ve to his addictions, and even if he tries to fight against he loses.
My first encounter with this video was on the Fine Bros. RUclipsrs React video. It was amazing watching how most of them really couldn’t see past the surface level of “animated popcorn”. But yeah, once you get past the more obvious contents of the video, you can see that the guy was going through some serious issues.
I sometimes forget my favorite youtubers aren't my age because this was impossible to miss, and after it got popular there was a tik tok trend of people doing the dance in 2:02 with and without the song, this was massive
Ahh yes, gotta love to see mememe's 3 reaction plases, confusion and dismissal, uncertanty and curiosity, then engagement and hype To think basically an amv made to promote a disc of songs would break the internet on it's time and and make people theorize is outstanding, yes, the reason it sounded like 3-4 different songs stitched together, is because it is, btw, the creator was the same guy that made the music of panty and stocking with garterbelt Still you got the gist of what was theorized quite well, so props!! Btw, this vid has a sequel called "daoko girl" wich i am not sure if it is sequel or prequel, but it is damn absolutely good too
I had the same reaction then you when I first watched it. Then I watch it again with subtitle, and I just cried. Your analysis is not that far off from the story in the lyrics, but it goes really deep
You hit the nail on the head. It is about addiction taking over his life. There's another less sus video about the ex-girlfriend, too. Honestly, the music, animation, and message are why people are asked to watch it. Starts with cutesy music and "popcorn" like animation, then shifts into the darker themes. The whole transformation/DOOM section is the most profound. Dude, try to beat his "popcorn" fantasy with a power fantasy only to lose. Because that doesn't work. You need real help with addiction. Not turning to it more.
the reason everyone wanted you to react to this, other than the shock factor and story, is the song is a banger. teddyloid is one of the creators behind ado's song odo and he produced the soundtrack for panty and stocking. he's not known for much, but what he has done is very good.
I’ve never watched the video, but there’s a typography version of the song with English lyrics, and it makes me cry every time. Beautiful yet tragic lyrics and music.
As far I remember, this whole MV is about how MC (male) has destructive addictions: porn, anime, games, smoking, drugs and etc, that destroys his relationships with his gf, and how he can't escape it. There's actually a second part (prequel?) to this MV - I think it was called "Shelter" or something, or it just has the same characters... People from the comments say that it's GIRL by DAOKO.
It was part of a series of animations. Each episode had a different animation style, different storyline, and different themes. The most famous ones were "me!me!me!" and shelter . My personal favorite was the new Adam one. It's about a guy who hates how the world is and destroys it, but he fails to erase himself and lives, so god tells him to do better if he's so smart. Another good one is the one where humans leave in a safe bubble because the rest of the world is apocalyptic according to some records, but no one really knows the actual state of the outside world.
Nope! You aren't looking too far into it. Dude IS fighting his addiction. And he loses himself to it. The song is very sad. This was made by some top animators in Japan, by the way-
I dont really see people explaining why the title is called ME!ME!ME! but it basically symbolizes the mc's self loathing. And it's all his fault, he should have stopped sooner, he should not have done it in the first place, he should have loved her more, and he should have done better. Its ME!ME!ME!! The title is basically the mc, blaming himself, hence the extreme emotion represented by the (!) in each word. Edit: also part 2 is GIRL by daoko
You should react more of Daoko's songs and their lyrics 😔👌 I think there's also a different short animation with her singing in it that is just as deep and weird, I don't remember if it was related to this song or simply reused the same characters or something... It was called "girl" I think
Basically it's a song about how hentai/anime addiction is bad and creates hikkikomori it's made by the guy who made neon genesis evangelion hence the Eva figures making an appearance. It's basically a sad story of a dude that had a girlfriend and now is addicted to anime and hentai.
The thing is there’s no correct answer about the message of the video, that’s just people’s guesses. The author didn’t say anything about that. He even said that the motivation is to make erotic stuff.
Me!me!me! reaction in 2025? God damn what a start of a year. Beside all the sus in the video, you can't deny that the music quality of this one is high tier. And if iirc, there are more parts of this as well, it's more chill than this
As several other comments have already gone into great detail I'll save some time and just say that there is a lot of subtext to me me me the creator of this video had a lot to say. And while it may be outwardly questionable and adult in nature it is actually quite genius.
3:00 Projekt Melody (probably, hee hee): Huh.... welp.. ah see nothing wrong here... normal day, for me... oh wait... we're not on "other Twitch".... okay.. I can see how others might be PTSD'd... oh well.. carry on...
This music video is a bit of a litmus test; if you see addiction, you’re correct, but you only see it as addiction if you have been exposed to somebody (maybe you) who went through some kind of addiction. People that have never seen it or gone through it… they just see the popcorn and feel the beat.
My comments are just getting deleted for some reason, I am not sure if it's an RUclips issue or if they are just hidden. I want to say Sorry for the spam just in case they appear. I left my comment on Patreon.
Ah...yes, "Me!Me!Me!" Every anime fan (at least up to the 2010) has seen that video at least once. It's a psychological horror tragedy packaged in mock-hentai content. It's disturbing, and yet people could probably write an entire essay analysing it's meaning/story
Yeah It's sus But it's basically (even if in a lower level) in the same boat of "Monster Girl Quest" (Yeah it's Super Extra Full, Capital letters and all, SUS, a Nukige): "Come for the *orn, stay for the Plot"
2:40 Time to become a stalker so I can watch live GOT Games reactions in person I'm sure you can see why this went viral back in the day lol. If you want (arguably) less artistic sus stuff, you should do another sus OP/EDs video! You need to do Yosuga no Sora (OP and 2 EDS), OniAi, OniMai and Futoku no Guild!
have you heard of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt??? (it really is the name of the anime) It has good music by Teddyloid. Also I had some good laughs, for some a cult classic, but it is really unconventional and might be considered offensive nowadays, either you hate or love it, I liked it. Warning: Its not safe for RUclips.
@ i mean its so hardcore that i would not let kids watch the unblurred version. I watched it and Got chills all over my body, it was that feeling of Interest while watching the first episode of Attack on titan and not knowing They eat people. You know what i mean?
I don't really understand how and where people saw addiction to smoking, drugs and pornography here. It's enough to check the lyrics and everything becomes more or less clear. So, the hero Shu and the heroine Hannah are a couple who started dating. And then, first, by narratives: 1 Euphoria of falling in love 2 Poisonous lust 3 Sadness, frustration 4 Jealousy, anger, violence, rejection 5 Humility, acceptance, despair 6 Breakup\separation And then, by story: Shu is a withdrawn guy who has elevated his girlfriend to an ideal in his head and his ideal wins over the real girl, which is why she had to compete with herself, while experiencing jealousy of the image of Hannah in her boyfriend's head. And this jealousy and anger eat away at the girl from the inside, and the "image of the girl" literally devours\absorbs Shu and his thoughts before the girl's eyes, which is why she feels helpless and tries to reach out to him, offers to start all over again and try to get everything back. The guy realizes that he is missing Hanna and in anger tries to break free from the captivity of this "image of the girl", but still he was under this influence for too long and loses, and then he is again alone in his room.
this is what chat gpt concludes from the video: Ultimately, the message of Me! Me! Me! is a social critique. It comments not only on addiction to sex or pornography but also on the dangers of indulging in superficial pleasures in modern society. Through its bold and disturbing visual style, the anime aims to open a dialogue about the emotional emptiness and alienation that can arise from excessive hedonism and the culture of consumption.

One of my favorite videos on addiction next to "The Albatross"
Me!me!me! reaction in 2025? God damn what a start of a year.
Beside all the sus in the video, you can't deny that the music quality of this one is high tier.
And if iirc, there are more parts of this as well, it's more chill than this
I believe main message of ME!ME!ME! is internet addiction. Don't be addicted to idols.
It is brilliant!
"I'm gonna close my curtains" (wheezing lol)
So cool to see people meeting those things nowadays for the first time XD
this is a classic youtube music video
He finally did this Mememe reaction!! 😃🫣
Btw the music is pretty good to listen😅
Teddyloid apparently got to work on that shadow the hedgehog generations game final rush remix.
As several other comments have already gone into great detail I'll save some time and just say that there is a lot of subtext to me me me the creator of this video had a lot to say. And while it may be outwardly questionable and adult in nature it is actually quite genius.
And the original video was on youtube for some years, and now is hard to find it here
3:00 Projekt Melody (probably, hee hee): Huh.... welp.. ah see nothing wrong here... normal day, for me... oh wait... we're not on "other Twitch".... okay.. I can see how others might be PTSD'd... oh well.. carry on...
this reaction is even better when you dont know the original video
Ah, I see Luke is now reacting to deep philosophical cinema.
suggest someone to see MEMEME It's how:
"Yes, my friend, I tell you that it is not what it seems" *proceeds to basically show him "popcorn"*
I dont' remember this song over ME ME ME at all. I remember the video though. I was wondering if that isn't the actual music or if I just forgot lol.
oh god, i love Daoko
Theres another one you know, search daoko girl, its another trip to space that one as well.
Booba guns were a thing before the Machete Kills Gatling Gun Bra was a thing
On the official hosting site the video loops endlessly if you let it.
Oh hey… it’s time 🤣
I just wanna say that I REALLY want a FPS game that looks like the scene in this vid. It looked really really cool
la primera vez que vi mememe estallo el face el youtub... y fue interesante ya que su musica y la animacion fue increible.
Ah I remember ME!ME!ME! 🚬
GIRL from Daoko and Teddyloid also similar masterpiece give it a try as well
Ah...yes, "Me!Me!Me!"
Every anime fan (at least up to the 2010) has seen that video at least once.
It's a psychological horror tragedy packaged in mock-hentai content. It's disturbing, and yet people could probably write an entire essay analysing it's meaning/story
Bye the i just want to ask! Where do you get these recommendations?
The last thing I expected was a comparison to Edgerunners
Although after hearing that comparison, it basically makes some sense in principle
This song still hurts my soul :c
The interpretation is not so far from the lyrics of the song...
And...yeah...i feel the same, and it kinda hurts...
J'don mah soul 😔 🙏
Yeah
It's sus
But it's basically (even if in a lower level) in the same boat of "Monster Girl Quest" (Yeah it's Super Extra Full, Capital letters and all, SUS, a Nukige):
"Come for the *orn, stay for the Plot"
It's actually very deep like you said.
2:40 Time to become a stalker so I can watch live GOT Games reactions in person
I'm sure you can see why this went viral back in the day lol.
I'd never heard of this before, and I don't know what to say other than, what the hell is happening here?
now part 2 of this,
I'm here for DAOKO, have no idea that this is a sus video at all xD
I have a Me! Me! Me! keychain 🤪
you got it right
Funny I was listening to this just today
4:05 I think your camera froze for a bit there, mate.
I watched the unblurred version rn and im Terrified 🥶 its very brutal and nsfw
This video really isn't that hardcore, I dunno. I guess it's a zoomer thing, or maybe people newer to weeb culture?
@ i mean its so hardcore that i would not let kids watch the unblurred version.
I watched it and Got chills all over my body, it was that feeling of Interest while watching the first episode of Attack on titan and not knowing They eat people. You know what i mean?
@ and im not new to the weeb culture i watched This type of content back in 2017 but its weird if i look back at it now
Next up is "Girl"
could you do a reaction to the Shamen King 2021 (+ Shamen King: Flower of Maize) Opening and Endings pls
I don't really understand how and where people saw addiction to smoking, drugs and pornography here.
It's enough to check the lyrics and everything becomes more or less clear.
So, the hero Shu and the heroine Hannah are a couple who started dating.
And then, first, by narratives: 1 Euphoria of falling in love
2 Poisonous lust 3 Sadness, frustration 4 Jealousy, anger, violence, rejection
5 Humility, acceptance, despair
6 Breakup\separation
And then, by story: Shu is a withdrawn guy who has elevated his girlfriend to an ideal in his head and his ideal wins over the real girl, which is why she had to compete with herself, while experiencing jealousy of the image of Hannah in her boyfriend's head.
This is a classic, its quite intresting when you look past all the lewd stuff, suprised you only reacted to this now.
I knew daoko for this video
this is what chat gpt concludes from the video:
Ultimately, the message of Me! Me! Me! is a social critique. It comments not only on addiction to sex or pornography but also on the dangers of indulging in superficial pleasures in modern society. Through its bold and disturbing visual style, the anime aims to open a dialogue about the emotional emptiness and alienation that can arise from excessive hedonism and the culture of consumption.
where did we find the true video ? i cant see it anymore
Dailymotion
You need to watch this video with subtitles, the clip shows the man's perspective and the song shows the woman's perspective.
