Huge props to them on doing this and uploading it. I always wanted to see a k24v7 turbo and how things would handle. Gathered a lot from this video. Of course that CVT Isn’t gonna hold that power. I wonder how much the engine can handle though. Maybe if he manual swaped it it’d be better.
@blixxxxyy8136 The newer motors are stronger than the older k series and they have better tech.. The newer k24z motors are essentially upgraded k24a2s (Better valvetrain, stronger rods). The main difference is direct injection. The newer engines are easier/cheaper to upgrade. The injectors spray fuel into the combustion chamber instead of the intake manifold. A turbo kit is half the price and half of the work compared to the old motors. Tuning the dct shifts so that you don't break the torque converter is the only thing to worry about. Look up the specs for the r18, k20c2 and k24z vs d series, k20a3 and k24a2.
Planning to trade in my RDX for ILX because of I might have to commute more next year. I need something cheap & something that is gonna help pull a little without losing some MPG. ILX is the front runner. I am thinking of tuning it & maybe adding turbo at max. What do you recommend ?
In your experience, what seem to be the natural limits of this transmission, torque-wise? I was thinking of swapping a K24V7 and mated DCT8 into an old EP3 Si I have that is losing synchros. Engine mounts should line up but tranny might need custom mounts. I would just do i/h/e and a tune, but worried it may not even reliably handle that, being a dry setup. Heck, I was even looking at an option for a quaife LSD, but now I see why they dont make a product for the DCT8.
It’s not a dry clutch. It’s wet. Not sure why it doesn’t hold up much, can try to do a cooling system instead of the oem heat exchanger. It’ll be more than fine at n/a powers
thank you for clarifying! i know nothing about the trans i had the owner sign a waiver and cross his fingers lmao. if i had acces to the trans parameters it would be more consistant. may turn it up in the future
@@tyro7428 Are you absolutely sure it is a wet clutchpack setup? I thought the DCT7 from the RDX and DCT9 from the NSX were wet, and the DCT8 was dry due to the nature of the unique built-in torque converter? I've seen on the ilx forums it is a dry clutchpack, but I have no hands on experience with this particular transmission, myself. Either way, I'd love if it could hold to FBO NA power + tune, but dont want to set it all up to find out it cant the expensive way.
@@RACEALOTGARAGE Another option I have been seeing (very slow) development for is the VW DQ250/500 being mated to the K24. There are hardware kits to bolt them up, but it seems like no solid TCU options. HTG seems to get a lot of complaints about flat shifting and frying gearboxes quickly, and the other couple companies seem to have no reviews at all. Would be nice to have the option to go AWD though. That seems way more expensive though.
nothing unfortunately. Atleast as of now. The ILX is talked down on and has been over the years so people dont gravitate to wanting to build it hence why theres little to no information about making real power with their dct.
I can't hate on someone's hobby, but honestly all that work just to have transmission issues and only 200hp made me cringe so hard. I hope it all works out for you in the end
i was just giving the customer what they asked for. we both knew theres alot of unkowns as its never been done. we can make more power, but yes the trans is the cringiest part lol

Maybe the he can frankinstine it from ripping out a tlx auto trans idk if it’s possible. I believe they are all wheel drive. Who knows
Sadly this is a DCT 8SPD
Keep it up with the uploads, can’t wait to see it run at the dragstrips
nice to see someone trying i have a ilx 2020 and theres nothing for this car on the market
Ong im right there w u been tryna do lil stuff but theres rlly nothing 😂 hope to swap it w a k20a3 in the future

I was wondering if that transmission would handle all that boost. Seems like you would have to swap to a level 10 bulletproof trans.
Would love to see you guys try to get a bbk on it.
Yall making me want to turbo my '17, which is gonna be the plan anyways but wanna see how the dct transmission holds up

@@HorribleHorrorMovies the customer did tell me he would like a 6speed manual, may as well put a full TSX K24A2 MT swap.
Wanna build mine but afraid of how that 8 speed will hold up with the power. I was thinking about sequential swapping it
Don't be scared, plenty of these in junkyard or repo yards
Yall gotta sell this as a kit give some life to the aftermarket 😭
you wanna buy

What can be done to strengthen the dct?
I don't know to be honest.

@redvsblue3294 we are going hail mary this car soon. If it blows it blows owner doesn't care he wants to know what it's made of so we know the limits
