i had to remember candy floss = cotton candy in different countries 😂
We say fairy floss in Australia. He just called it candy floss to make it easier on the Americans
I'm British and 100% thought he was as well. Clearly I cannot identify the Australian accent that well
@@SnailAU i think UK uses candy floss
@@redhawkneofeatherman261 Not alone. He sounds more English than I do xD
@@SnailAU no it's called candy floss in the uk
The amount of glassware he has
A tip I found useful keep a eye on people posting on marketplaces or what ever you have in your area. As well garage sales. I've gotten so many wine jugs and bottles from things like that. Once I scored 10, 1.5 gallon glass carboys at the garage sale they were just going to throw them out, so they said take if you want! Also got some jars etc. Just keep your eyes open nice part about glass is it's always cleanable!
im jealous tbh
apple cider bottle in america tend to be more round and fat. would the recipe still work?
In my city we have an industrial flower supply warehouse and it’s full of little trinkets but it also has a glass section. It’s chalk full of every type of bottle, measuring cup, or dish you could imagine. In every size and in clear, amber, blue and green.
He showed one bottle and one glass
Take a shot everytime the word "Bottle" is said
Not ready to get that smashed lol
11 shots
Boddle boddle boddle boddle
Tried it last night. Can I send you the bill from the ER?
how did I not even realize he said it that many times
Put washed grapes into a sanitized 4L bottle. Fill the container about 1/3 full with the fruit. Once you have the proper amount of fruit in the jar remove it and chop the fruit and replace it into the jar. Add 3/4 - 1 cup sugar and fill to the top with filtered water. Cover with a cloth or coffee filter secured with a rubber band. Set in a cool place out of the sun (NO COMMERCIAL YEAST NEEDED). Let sit for 5-7 days stirring once everyday. Keep tasting this everyday as the natural yeast develops. When the flavor reaches the desired taste filter out the fruit and put into pressure safe bottles. Add 1/2 tsp sugar to each bottle, cap and shake well. Counter ferment for 3 days and move to the refrigerator and chill well (for a couple of days so they don’t explode when you open them). Produces very carbonated natural soda without commercial yeast.

The whole time I was reading your comment I was excited about it until you scared the crap out of me by using the word "exploded." I mean, how bad are we talkin?
@@nathanpyle3443 you will have a fun cardio workout scrubbing down the walls, ceilings and cupboards etc. The bottle doesn’t actually explode (if you’ve used a pressure safe bottle) but when you open it it will erupt like a high pressure hose until the bottle is empty as you scream and run around the room…..so…make sure the bottles have chilled throughly for a couple of days. If it is the first time making it I would suggest you open your first bottle outdoors away from the siding of your house, apartment etc. The safest and most inexpensive pressure safe bottles I’ve found at least in the US are flip top bottles from “World Market” and “Trader Joes” stores that sell carbonated lemonades in flip tops. Note: the recipe applies for any fruit that you would like to make soda from within reason…banana soda for instance would be a no go.
Is the end result alcoholic? I know all ferments carry some amount of alcohol but would this method be creating a hard seltzer, for instance? I don't like the taste of alcohol and I also avoid having it around in general (for instance, i don't use mirin or red wine vinegar)
@@evan8463 I've never personally fermented anything (on purpose, at least), but it's literally the exact same process as making bread without yeast packets. Which bacteria wins out is a little up to chance, but only some varieties produce alcohol. And with such a quick ferment as this recipe calls for it's going to be no more alcoholic than a typical kombucha. The drink will certainly be acidic so if you're not a fan of vinegar then maybe the acidity will be your red flag, but using a sufficiently sweet fruit like strawberry or kiwi might be worthwhile enough.

Reminds me of my friend Boston.

PSA: if you haven't tried cotton candy grapes (what we call them in Canada), he is not lying about them. They are delicious and well worth the extra cost. I like to freeze them for just a bit and have them as a snack. Everyone should try them if they get the chance.
The candy heart verity from the same company is far better. The best grapes I’ve ever eaten. Try them!
@@Appaddict01 haven't seen them in stores but if I do I definitely will
Nawl. We call them the same thing in America and they're completely overrated.
I had some and it’s so spot on that it makes me mad
@@lomeinbullies5768They don't really taste like cotton candy but they're a different kind of sweet compares to normal grapes. Definitely try it at least once, just don't expect something mindblowing.

I think it's 11 times, 11 shots in a short is deadly
Yes 11 lol
🥴🍻
You didn’t make soda… you made sparkling wine.
Keep in mind that you are producing an alcoholic product! The sugar ferments to alcohol and a side product of the fermentation is co2 which shows itself in carbonation within the drink because it cant escape, nevertheless i‘m certain it‘s amazing!
A little birdy told me that the alcohol content of this recipe would be too low to matter in the slightest unless he added a good bit more sugar, little more yeast, and waited more like 2 weeks. The alcohol content of this would have you die of saline imbalance before you even got buzzed.
It's got as much alcohol as a loaf of bread in practical terms. Unless you add a bit more sugar and forget it in your pantry for a month or two, it won't make you feel anything. If you do add more sugar and leave it in your pantry though, you'll have a very tasty homemade sparkling wine. Or a blown up bottle.
@@bodhinorris2735 yes absolutely! I brew my own beer and this is simmilar to the bottle fermentation, which only adds about 0.2% of alcohol, if even… so no you won‘t get buzzed, i just wanted to point it out because he didn‘t mention the chemical process behind the bubbles in the video :)
@@maurusschedler1747 appreciate it. I can’t do it then because I can’t drink alcohol. It doesn’t end well for anyone. Thanks again.

I thought this was one of those things where you put something outlandish in some sort of alcohol for a long period of time
As in the goated Dokaryan
I love how the grapes started floating as soon as you opened the bottle, since they were also carbonated. I love grapes, I have to try this.
They just started selling the cotton candy grapes in my area, and I can indeed confirm that they legitimately taste exactly like cotton candy/fairy floss. It’s shocking, in fact.
Honestly, they do not taste exactly like cotton candy, they’re just sweeter than normal
Simp
The grape chunks floating to the top was actually sexy
When he says they taste exactly like candy floss (or cotton candy), he's not lying. These things taste abnormally sweet, like it makes you think "wait, are these actually candy?" and then you cut them open and it's just natural fruit. The skin kinda dries out your mouth but oh my god, they are fucking amazing.
Use flip top bottles. They are stronger and more comfortable to close
You can buy Cotton Candy ("candy floss") grapes at Publix, if you live in the Southeast USA, for anyone wondering. 😊
Jesus Christ, Angie. I think people know where to look for any varieties of grapes where they live. RUclipssplainer 🤫
@@virginiahanna9960 i see that someone has no friends... it's okay, maybe whining on youtube will help fill that void.
I've found that a lot of people don't believe they taste like cotton candy at all
Count how many times he says “bottles”😂✨
Awesome info…🍹👍🏽👧🏽✨
sounds amazing and yeah loved those grapes hope they reappear this year in the shops.
Once again, I'm here to ask why do you know so much about such a niche topic? Did you just start googling and reading about food science or did you study it or something?
It's not hard. Once you know how fermenting works, you can experiment on all sorts of things. Brewing is just fermenting, but with liquid. He's also Korean, so he's got a head start. A lot of Korean food is fermented.
Tried those grapes and they taste nothing like candy floss in case you’re wondering, they’re just extremely sweet.
I'll try to make it but with garlic and onions.
i just tried to make some last night, i put too much yeast in so the fermentation happening so fast that the bottle become overpressured, i have to bring the bottle into the other room then open it, all of the grapes and juiced shoot out up to the celling, hit my face directly too
Is candy floss what we call cotton candy in the US? If so, they definitely have those grapes at Publix seasonally!
Indeed, Candy Floss is Cotton Candy in the USA 🍬
They candy heart ones from the same company are even better. Yes, they are available seasonally and in short supply because they’ve only been recently developed. They used to only be grown in California.

You can carbonate grapes directly leaving them with (not touching) dry ice in a cooler with a tight lid for a few hours.

How wonderful!
Thank you, I appreciate giving me a new life skill
did this step by step and it tasted like fizzy water mixed with a drop of grape juice and rubbing alchohol.
also released enough gas even after cooling it to probably fill 6 balloons
Also achievable with a ginger bug much like ginger beer.
You barely need any like maybe a tablespoon of ginger bug.
I do this with grapefruit.

I love those grapes!!!
Yep!
Love this!! Definitely a fun project to do with my teenager too❤
Very cool idea 💡
💥 the official Cotton
Candy grapes were made in Kern county. They spent many years crossing different grapes to get the flavor right.
Lemon+ mint + sugar. Make strong tasting tea to your liking, add extra spoonful of sugar. In the bottle, add two large raisins. Bottle the tea when luke warm wirh few lemon zests and keep about a week in the cellar (4* C) until the bottle clears. No yeast needed. Awesome summer drink :)
This is brilliant 🔥
I've tried the cotton candy/candy floss grapes before and they're so weird but I honestly kinda like them
This looks SO refreshing
It's a great way to make grape juice. Don't have to cut the grapes. In a quart jar throw in a large handful of grapes. Depending on the fruits sweetness you and add a few tablespoons of sugar. Wipe bottle lip with clean damp paper towels. Boiling water process for 10 minutes once water comes to a boil. Let them set for a month. (My kids didn't get past a week of waiting lol) a refreshing grape juice for a hot summer day.
One time lava lamp.
Honestly made me do a stupid laugh.
This brings me joy.
Cotton candy grapes are my favorite 😍 I wanna try
And that's why companies add colorants to their beverages
Can confirm cotton candy grapes taste shockingly similar to actual cotton candy. First time I had one, it blew my mind. My mom used to pack them for me at lunch when I was in grade school, and they were a great bargaining chip, lemme tell ya. They’re absolutely delicious, but they’re only in season in late summer, so make sure you get them when you can.
I've been looking into growing hydroponic strawberries. It would be a neat endeavour to try making naturally flavored homemade strawberry soda with them.
Can confirm those grapes do taste pretty good
We call it fairy floss in Australia. Had these grapes for a few months from a special hybrid grower but never had them since.
I’m totally going to try this!
Even if that's what some places call it, it's cotten candy at the end of the day because does it look like floss no it looks like cotten, interesting isn't it?
This is brilliant
Is it possible to do something like this with apples or other fruit? This seems super easy and I'd love to try it out but I'm not a fan of grapes
Candy floss grapes are literally one of the greatest inventions ever made and no one talks about it.
The natural sodas I make have a lot more carbonation. Good idea with the grapes! Next we we're going to try making a cucumber ginger basil soda
Edit: I use a tumeric/ginger bug
Omg cucumber ginger basil sounds so good! My type of flavor
@@Dirtysoda_ Just made a soda with orange, mandarin, lemon, mint, ginger, and tumeric. By far the best orange soda I've ever had
Great share
Highly recommend trying the Candy Heart verity from the same company. They are the best grapes I’ve ever eaten. IMO far superior to the cotton candy verity.
One thing that is not stated in this video is this method produces alcohol the grape soda is just grape beer
Take a note from home distillers and actually mash in the grapes.
Heat the water up to 80c to melt the sugar, then add the cut up grapes.
Let them sit in the hot water to break down a bit, strain through cheese cloth once cool. Add yeast when room temp and bottle.
He's not trying to make it alcoholic, more alcohol is bad.
Cotton candy grapes are insane!

Mesmerizing watching then float to the top.
thaaat looks so good! great job
It would have been interesting to see the specific gravity before and after fermentation
It's not just the bottle cap it's also want he used in combination
What in tarnation is candy floss.
Sounds good
if you’ve never had cotton candy grapes you’ve got to try them they’re so good
Usually making soda is better when you make a syrup then mix the carbonated water with it, you should try that for a stronger flavor
🤣Jesus I remembered ones I made rice wine and kept it in a plastic jar with tight lid, inside a cupboard that too during summer days, and one hot afternoon it bursted like a bomb 🤣,
For those of you who come from countries that have actually been to the Moon, candy floss is cotton candy
Cotton Candy grapes go so hard, definitely gonna have to try this 😫
Cotton candy grapes are amazing
Come on now...cotten candy grapes do NOT taste like cotton candy. They just taste sweeter then a normal grape, but still taste like a grape. No one would ever confuse the taste of those grapes with cotton candy.
grapes really said "im freeeee"
Can't get over how nice that stove is
Saving this idea for later. I like sparkling water 😅
Love your kitchen stove unit 😍
Cotton candy grapes are soooo good, I imagine this had to be good
Very cool
Sometimes I forget you island savages in the UK call Cotton Candy "Candy Floss" and I feel the urge to dump tea in Boston harbor.
You have got to try Autumn crisp grape and cotton candy grapes
I’m English and we do call what Americans call cotton candy candy floss although I’m pretty certain 90% of Brit’s agree that cotton candy makes more sense than calling it candy floss
You inspired me to make lemon cheong.
The words Candy floss makes me want to gather up all the boys and start a revolutionary war 2
Couldn’t you also use pieces of seltzer tablets to boost the carbonation in the soda too? Only downside is you’ll have to shake them up a lot for the water to absorb it better.
Would this work with cherries or pears? Cherries are in season where I live and I think would be real nice, and I've always wanted to try a pear soda since Dishonored 2 came out years ago
Works with any fruit that contains sugar. Just make sure you use something like a water lock, because if you seal the bottle like this guy does you end up with exploding bottles… very unsafe.
It’s called cotton candy my guy!
Not in the UK
@@jamesblakeley4329 lol yeah it’s just funny how different two English speaking countries can be

Candy floss=UK's version of cotton candy....and let's be honest cotton candy makes soo much more sense
