I left Scranton sixty years ago. Can’t tell u how much I appreciate this video. I feel disoriented at time, looking at this. lol I didn’t appreciate the architecture when I lived there, but I am glad to see most of those buildings remain the same,
Already 🖒👍🖒👍🖒👍up!!! I got my JP tee shirt and hoodie sweatshirt!!! While getting my mail people stated they thought the tee shirt was KOOL and really liked the HOUSE with the Twinkie tree, said the HOUSE looked haunted. Very thrilled to get it!! Thank you Jason💖. Great company to deal with and came very fast. Will order more goodies and will get more hoodies to be ready for winter esp. Will see you and our buds at 8.
I was born in West Side Hospital in 1951. Attended Francis Willard Elementary School. You can find out so much about Scranton through the Lackawanna Historical Society. One of my best memories of Scranton was attending the Masonic Temple regularly and listening to the famous Skitch Henderson and the orchestra. Wonderful times. So many memories, too many to enumerate. Every Friday night at Town Hall Skating Rink, Burshell's ice cream, and not so great...the burning dumps. There's amazing history in Scranton and should be mentioned.
Another great video. My most favorite so far. I am overwhelmed with the rich history of this beautiful area. Scranton by far is the most impressive city I have ever seen. Your description of it's past is greatly appreaciated. I am very focused on the history of the area from Scranton to Nicholson. I grew up in Berks county, also a beautiful area, but I fell in love with this area and nothing compares to living here. Thank you again JP.
I lived in Scranton, PA in the 90s. I moved from Scranton, when I was 10 to Lake Ariel, PA. The movie theater across the Mall at Steamtown was a United Artists theater. It was also called Cinemark. When I was a kid, my mom brought me to the Ritz Theater. It was a great place to sit back and relax while watching a movie. Also, along Wyoming Avenue, the city buses had their bus stations along the streets. You've done a great job of doing the walking tour. Scranton, Pa was a great place to live back in the 90s. Every Labor Day weekend, they would have La Fiesta Italiano festival along Spruce Street and around City Hall. My family and I, used to go to the Italian festival every year, and listen to the live music. I knew Mayor Jim Connors personally. I was friends with his son David Connors while attending Prescott Elementary School. Mayor Jim Connors's wife Susan Connors was my 4th grade teacher at Prescott Elementary Schoo. You have made a great video.
@@JPVideos81 You're welcome. In the video, you mentioned that you weren't sure of what the name was in front of the Mall at Steamtown in the 90s. In the mid 90s, it was a United Artists theater.
The construction of some of the buildings,(architecture)is truly one of a kind...quite amazing...so much beauty that is so overlooked....scranton cultural center (masonic temple)is such a gem...open up your eyes ya',ll truly unique!
Loved this video! We just got back from picking up our daughter from the University of Scranton, which abuts downtown Scranton, and we had the chance to see some of the beautiful architecture in downtown Scranton. Lots to do and see there! Thanks for the tour!
I grew up in Scranton until I left for the Air Force in 1964. Returned in 2014 for the 50th reunion of Scranton Central’s class of 64. Sad to see a once vibrant city slowly regress to what is is today. Haven’t been back since, preferring the dry heat, low humidity and lack of snow of Phoenix Arizona, Do miss the Coney Island dogs.
Thoroughly enjoyed your video of Scranton and its iconic buildings and architecture. I learned a lot, when I hear Scranton, Pennsylvania, I thought of the TV show "The Office". Since I've watched this video of yours, I am very interested in the city and I would love to visit it someday and see some of these buildings in person. and of course, I would love to eat at that Coney island restaurant you mentioned at the beginning of your video.
I have been to this hotel for lunch or brunch many years ago when I lived in drums,pa.I found myself wanting to live in Scranton! Just found it to be a real nice place to live !
This was incredible Jay! So much beautiful architecture & history. Just loved all those amazing buildings. Looks like Scranton has alot of interesting things to offer. Brings back lots of memories when I was a kid. I walked from Van Buren ave in the West Side. To Downtown Scranton every Saturday morning. When I turned 16 I worked at Oppenheims department store. I really enjoyed the video seeing downtown Scranton . I need to make a trip back soon!!
Just came across this now…Jan 2024. Excellent video. This brought back memories of growing up in the area. I hope you do more videos of Scranton. Thank you!
My parents had a miniature golf course in Promise land. Lived there one year. Worked at Sky Top. I visited many times a year. My mom and I shopped in Scranton many times. I also walked the city when my brother was in the Hospital. They didn’t turn the electric lights on at that time. They’re lucky to have a Krispie Kreme donut shop. Remember President Clinton dined at Coopers Seafood house my kids loved it. They also loved Steam town, the coal mine and many other things. It’s really a shame it hasn’t progressed downtown.
i wondered about the spaceship lookin things for years myself and have no clue but there are deffinitely tunnels beneath the masonic temple that do go all throughout and under scranton that i have seen with my own eyes

I love your video! Wonderful tour for my favorite city. It was really really the best city video tour I've ever seen. Maybe because I have some history there, but to me, it was definitely the best. I LIKED, COMMENTED, and SUBSCRIBED.
I watch a lot of these abandoned videos but yours are my favorite. Always find neat places to go and love how you do your camera and narrative part of the places you visit. When I first found your site I sat for hours watching them all. Great job! Always hoping you won't fall thru some of the floors you wander on and wishing you would wear a mask when you are in with mold in the buildings Thanks for sharing
Coney Island Lunch next to the Hobby Store is much much much better than the one on the side street and is connected to the original owners who started Coney Island Lunch.

Thanks for doing this walking tour! It was very educational and enjoyable. Please consider to do additional tours of other cities and how you tie in your own memories!
I unfortunately dont know other towns/cities as well as scranton, but i still would like to showcase some other towns.
I grew up in Scranton Pennsylvania I was born there I was born in CMC hospital and I wouldn't want to move back to Scranton nor Pennsylvania at all I like it in New York City
I Love your history and pics. Thank God it hasn't been damaged or destroyed by the "current protesters" (vandals).
💙
Always very sad when civic engagement becomes a riot
What vandals??
I love your video! Wonderful tour for my favorite city. It was really really the best city video tour I've ever seen. Maybe because I have some history there, but to me, it was definitely the best. I LIKED, COMMENTED, and SUBSCRIBED.
Thanks so much
Great tour JP! I have never seen one of your videos I didn't thoroughly enjoy!
Thanks
Loved this video! Your humor and information about things was great 👍
Thanks Rachelle!
Missed this town
I watch a lot of these abandoned videos but yours are my favorite. Always find neat places to go and love how you do your camera and narrative part of the places you visit. When I first found your site I sat for hours watching them all. Great job! Always hoping you won't fall thru some of the floors you wander on and wishing you would wear a mask when you are in with mold in the buildings Thanks for sharing
Thank you cathy
Your videos are so great. I really enjoy them all but I especially love this content, so neat to watch.
Thanks so much amy
Hi Jay. Thanks for the tour of Scranton. Hope you are doing great & staying well.
Thanks kat. We are doing good.
You were a great tour guide, JP. Thank you. Scranton looks like a really nice place to live !
Unfortunately taxes are really high, but it's a nice place to visit.
Very interesting video. I enjoyed it very much. I like to see towns from all over. Thank you for sharing...
It's my pleasure
They were under ground restrooms and had 2 more on each corner of the courthouse.

Great to see Scranton.. My son's second home, Marywood University...
Thanks for the tour. My wife went to college there in the early 1970's - lots of familiar landmarks.
👍
Coney Island Lunch next to the Hobby Store is much much much better than the one on the side street and is connected to the original owners who started Coney Island Lunch.
Ill be trying that location next
My mom was born there , on Washington Ave
