    Hey Luke, looks a nice bit of kit! I could be in the market for a new focuser soon! I’m building a 3rd rig with my newly acquired Mead LXD55 200mm! Also considering a new Altair Astro 533 OSC! Got the PAS coming up in March, may have a look there! Thanks mate, interesting video and clear skies!

    Are you able to run the focuser on 5v with your image train? I only have the Player One Uranus-C and a focal reducer/flatterner, and I hoping the 5v input would be enough to handle that, through the fine focus knob.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey there mate! - I'm pretty darn confident it'd handle that load with just USB power :-) It's pretty torquey!
      Clear skies!

    Hi. Will this work with a 10 inch dobsonian with a 2 speed focuser? This would be perfect for my GoTo dob since I do visual and astrophotography with the same scope. If the answer is not known, maybe they can send it my way before it goes back and I can test it out? LOL.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hey mate! - it should indeed work for that, it'd be perfect in that scenario! :-) Clear skies and good luck to you!

    Hard NO on the USB-C. Connector is too small/weak as tested with my cellphone. Too easy to fall out or break with a cable snag.

      Definitely not for everyone mate, I've never had a usb-c port fail though myself! 👍

    Happy birthday once again Luke. Another great video and interesting focus motor, I'll certainly be interested seeing how you get on with this. I had a Senso 2 focus motor on my Esprit which also attaches to the fine tuning side of the focuser and was a great bit of kit. However, the fine tuning knob on a lot of focusers drive the coarse tuning shaft via a ball bearing friction design which can slip, this happened quite often on my Esprit especially when pointing towards the zenith and was a pain in the you-know-what. I have now switched to a ZWO EAF as it attaches to the coarse tuning knob which acts directly on the focuser rack.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  8 месяцев назад +1

      Good to know that Pete!! I'll definitely be on the lookout for any slippage mate 👍👍
      Thanks so much for the birthday wishes too, my friend! :-D clear skies!!

    Just out of curiosity, does it remember steps moved when being used manually so it can easily be moved back to focus when using the motor?

    • @tubedude54
      @tubedude54 8 месяцев назад +1

      I'd say no as it says in the literature you can only use manual when powered down.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  8 месяцев назад

      I don't believe it measures the steps used when manually adjusted, but you can definitely use the focus control while powered up 👍

    Just spent a few weeks battling this very focuser! The manual focus is a game changer, especially for visual. But for some strange reason every time I muck about with it the focus point moves by +1000. Haven't yet worked out why (and yes I've using the latest driver). I started at around 10000 and now I'm at 55000 for the same focus point. Not sure why.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  8 месяцев назад

      That's a strange one mate! I'd expect that perhaps there's a small amount of slippage happening in one direction, most likely inwards, it may be worth double checking the bushing tightness on the shaft just as a quick test 👍
      Failing that, if you have a crayford style focuser then that also could slip a little as you'll no doubt know.
      Thank you for watching!

    Great video Luke, been looking at the standard version myself…interested to see how it works, as I am not a fan of focus motors fitted to the fine focus shaft, as they are delicate and work only with friction so can slip…

      I hear you mate yeah, the slippage is a worry but not something I've experienced yet luckily! :-O

    The high precision feels like a gimmick to me. It's basically a stepper motor with no gear so it's super easy to just manually turn the stepper, the knob is basically useless since you should be able to easily turn the focuser manually with almost any scope design if you really need to like you did with the coarse focuser.
    To me the knob seems just useless.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  6 месяцев назад +1

      The knob allows you to maintain precision focusing with it being attached to the reduced side of the focuser, - without that knob you'd be stuck with using the single speed side only 👍

    • @msacco
      @msacco 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@lukomatico Which is fine, because why would anyone use that to manually focus when you have an electric focuser? The "nice" thing about a clutch for a focuser is the ability to move the focuser if you forgot to do it so you won't have to power it and connect it to a PC just to move it if it needs to fit in a case or what not. But since it's not geared and you can just easily move it without that...

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  6 месяцев назад

      @@msacco I hear you mate, it's been useful for me though! - already I've used it to quickly switch between astrophotography and visual with an eyepiece - something that would be a pain in the arse with a ZWO EAF or similar! It's not for everyone, but it's certainly got its uses IMO 👍

    Hi, Luke. Thanks for the video.
    Do you think it would be possible to mount the Q-Focuser on a Vixen dovetail? I'm planing to get one for my Widefield Samyang 135 and the idea would be to raise the Sammy using a 3d printed block and mount the focuser below it on top of the dovetail.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  8 месяцев назад +1

      I think it would be possible yeah! You may need to make a small custom 3d printed part though, or potentially drill + tap a mounting hole in the dovetail if it's not already threaded 👍 but a doable project, 100%
