- This video includes a lot of discussion while I inspect a hard to start KXF. I find the valve clearance out of tolorance and make corrections. Also the carburetor is removed and inspected to find a couple of issues.

You are smart and clever also your tips all through the video and ability to share your knowledge is Great!
Thanks. This video is exactly what I needed to see.
still very helpful years later
Enjoyed the vid, will help me a lot. But yeah as so looking forward to seeing it running after all that work.
Super helpful. You earned a sub!
I like the way that you did this video, very clear and easy to understand
Should have started it for us dude
As far as these fc carbs go, one of the main things missed on rebuilding them is the mid body o rings. They don't come with the carb rebuild kits but you can get them from all balls racing or moose. Because the mid body never gets opened cleaned etc. the o rings deteriate and clog the passages of the mid body, you may be able to blow air through from bottom of carb but it's still clogged, and will cause hard starting and a Bog.
I can’t see how much that is off but I proved that the top dot is slightly off from factory in one of my videos with lazer and my bike runs great. The timing in the book is explained differently on the dots with the top of the head and counting cam chain pin links.
What's the Bolt next to the stator cover that the ground goes too when u take the bolt out it will let oil drain out the ground wire for the stator screws onto the end of the bolt. Is there a name for that bolt
well done!
Whats that program for valve clearance?
you do good job but no one shows where the timeing marks on the magneto go i have a kx250f need timeing done
so i have a problem here it wont kick start but when run starting en it runs good then. what could it be??
I have a 2011 kx250f and it has so much compression and is hard to start could this be the problem
My kickstart is stuck wat do you think maybe da problem
how much would a repair like this cost?
where ya located i need my bike worked on im in Florida
mid body gaskets on the carb usually need to be replaced as well.
I just bought a 2005 or 2006 kx250f for 600 dollars.. the guy I bought it from said it would only push start... I re-shimmed the valves... and cleaned the carb... it’ll kick start now... but my throttle is not returning.. when I wrap the throttle it just doesn’t really return like it should and I haven’t got it to idle real good yet or crank real easy... any answer as far as throttle return? And maybe some fine tuning on the carb... I do have 42 pilot btw
Check the throttle grip tube, throttle cable, and then check the slide for free movement. Best to disconnect the throttle cable from carburetor and check these things individually
Also check and see if you have 2 cables from throttle to carb. I've bought some bikes with only one cable. The usually take off the throttle return cable 🤦
Aren't most kawi's dot on the exhaust cam gear suppose to be closer to the 1 oclock position
They aren’t exactly 12:00 but close with the tensioner load. As the cam chain stretches it get even worse. This one was more like 12:00 and 11:00
Hey can you fix my kx?
I wish you had started so we New it was fixed.
My 07 kx250f had an issue where it wouldn’t start hot but would amazing cold. It was the valves, I would warm it up and it wouldn’t start but I even timed it and I let it sit for 3 minute are second kick. Now in oct 9th I can start the bike with me hand litterly it’s crazy
Thank you that’s what’s wrong with mine
@@rang3r_yt153 yea, replace the valves then. Do not get aluminum valves Bc they wear faster.
why is the kawasaki kx250f moto when the engine is cold, it's easy to start but there is no power, I have to let it get to the right power, but when it's hot, it's hard to start the engine
@@ishakiss1068 the hot starting is most likely the valves, the low power might be from jetting
@@ishakiss1068 if it’s really cold we’re you live then that might be why, also you should let you’re bike idle for like 5 minutes before riding jt
I Have A 2008 Kx250f And It Has A Bad Problem Starting... And In 4-5 Gear It Looses Power At High RPM’s But Gains Power For A Sec And Looses It Again And Also Back Fires A lot, I’ve Heard Many Things... Maybe Someone Could Help Me...?
Did you check valve clearances? Especially exhaust valves
bondfranklin No Do I Just Need To Look At The Timing Chain To See If It Has Skipped Some Teeth?
Search videos for valve clearance or “lash” shim bucket type. The exhaust valves stretch over time and the clearance gets less and less till its hard to start among other issues you described.
bondfranklin Yeah Some Buddies Said Valve Adjustments And Some Said Carb But I Had A Birdie Who’s A Carb Specialist Clean It Inside And Out And People Say The Float Isn’t Giving It Enough Fuel... But It’s Hard To Start Up... And It Back Fires A Lot... And It Loses Skips On Power When At High RPM’s
My kxf250 won't idle. Just cuts out but my idle screw the black plastic one is jammed. If I move it it will slightly turn then bounce straight back. Is it common for these to jam like this? Absolutely brilliant video by the way. Currently watching it in my spare time while picking up the kids and I don't want to go in and get them yet I just want to keep watching 😂
Sounds like maybe the spring is grabbing into the plastic screw. If you ever get it apart, put a washer under the screw b4 the spring
Or, being cable driven (idle stop screw) the drive is flexing. Some times, it may be necessary to disconnect at the float bowl. That allows the cable to be straight (instead of bent 90) and give better advantage to back it out
@@Gizmowerks thank you I'll strip it down and take a look. Not looking forward to it but needs must 😂
What do you charge for this diagnosis/rebuild brother?
Hey man, back when this was filmed I think this job was under 200$. See if you have someone old school and local to work on your bikes instead of a dealership. Go to swap meets, races, and keep your eyes peeled for houses with motorcycle “bone” piles. Most legitimate shops will make a quote so high that they don’t have to work on it.
I've checked value clearance, I rebuilt my carb, checked for spark. Thing sounds like it wants to start but doesn't!
Have no idea what could be wrong at this point?
When was the last time it ran and what changed simce then? You covered most basics but a compression test could be a good help. Post the resulting PSI here, compression release wired out and throttle wide open.
Wanna fix my bike
