  • This is the Arbus corridor recently made by the city of Vancouver. They call it a greenway with the intention of creating safe bicycle corridors thoughout the city. My wife and I are celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary with a bike ride through our city. We drive in to Vancouver and I park in front of the house that I grew up in. Mom sold it ten years ago. Our house was then derelict dormant for five years until the new house began construction. They have now been building it off and on for the last five years. They just put on the gate and took down the blue construction fence a few weeks ago. The owner lives nearby but doesn't seem to need this house.
We unload our bikes and travel north on the old rail grade which is almost all downhill to the water. That's a good thing as we don't have E-bikes. Most of the people on this bikeway seem to be using E-bikes and going fast. The really big ones go very fast, like car speeds.
This was a railway when I was a child but it wasn't used very much. It connected Kitsalino and downtown to the north bank of the Fraser River. Only a few trains a month ran and they were always small. Vancouver has been losing its industries for a very long time.
In Kerrisdale we stop at 45th avenue and the church where we were married 32 years ago.
In Kitsalino we take a detour around Lamborghini, McLaren, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Jaguar, and Bently. All the exotic car dealers are within three blocks of each other.
This brings us to Granville Island where we do a lap on the bikes then we get off and walk the sea wall. This part is pedestrian only and very busy.
The next bit is a counter clockwise lap of False Creek on the very flat seawall. We make it to the downtown side and cruise our way along English Bay to Stanley Park. We cut thought the edge of the park to Vancouver Harbour, landing in Coal Harbour. The bike path is beautiful here and continuous into the middle of downtown Vancouver.
We make it to Canada Place where the cruise ships dock and all our subways converge. We ride the Canada Line south which connects YVR airport and Richmond. This underground people mover takes us uphill to the top of the city at 41st avenue. It's an easy 20 minute ride back to the car.
The whole journey took about three hour with a couple of stops. Super easy ride with my best friend. I hope we have many more.
Skiing With Norman is about travelling to big mountains and skiing. Almost always father and son, mostly road trips in western North America. We will drive anywhere, usually towing our dirt bike trailer. We have done awesome winter dirt biking in Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California. Whistler Blackcomb is our local mountain. Come with us as we try to show you complete mountains and the on-mountain facilities within. Best we have ever seen is Blackcomb Canada and Zermatt Switzerland. Come along for the ride.
