    It has lots of old world charm. Almost looks like a pocket watch on a strap. The black inky dial is gorgeous. Perfect dimensions ❤️

      Completely. Definitely nails the vintage feel but thankfully not as fragile as a vintage watch!

    This is such a great small alternative to the giant 40mm Oris 1917. Thanks for showing!

    Excellent thoughtful review - I am awaiting delivery of the 38 mill white dial version hopefully in May. Considered the 40 mill version, but concluded they are meant to be smaller.

    Your review is spot on except I didn't have the crown issue. I like the wire lugs because it helps the watch to wear small though it does limit the range of straps. I have twelve watches so that's not a problem.

    It's such a beautiful dial that i'd love to see it on a nice tapering leather strap, however i do appreciate they went with the fixed wire lugs for authenticity and the single pass looks pretty good anyway

    • @theknightswatch

      Agreed! Definitely can’t please everyone but I appreciate they made good quality straps to go along with it

    I love a good enamel or enamel-effect dial. The welded wire lugs will limit the strap options for sure. It blocks the case back decor as well when you have to use nato straps. Great job with the review! 👍🏼

      Same here. Enamel has a beautiful shine/gloss to it. Thanks for watching!

    If the goal is to be as historically accurate as possible, it's a bit of shame that the movement is not hand-winding only. Besides this minor gripe this seems like a really solid watch, the dial in particular is very nicely finished.
    I personally find the limitations of the fixed lugs interesting and pushes you to try new strap options, though the bund is not for me either haha, a little too bulky. Another great review man!

    • @theknightswatch
      @theknightswatch  3 года назад +2

      Fair but I think Handwound would’ve put a lot of people off. Historical inspiration with modern quality of life improvements just like every other reissue watch haha!
      Ya the fixed lugs are interesting but I think maybe a hinderance if this was your only watch or one of your only watches. Thanks for watching!

    • @VARIOeveryday
      @VARIOeveryday 3 года назад +6

      My goal is not to be historic accurate. It wouldn't have a crown at 4pm and like you said it needs a handwound. What I want to try to achieve is to take cues from the past, respect them and inject some modern inspiration and engineering.

    • @owl23452
      @owl23452 3 года назад +1

      @@VARIOeveryday "Cues from the past"... On a watch you named the WW1 Trench. That's a bit rich and sounds a bit like a cope-out.
      I don't mean to sound aggressive at all, I really like the watch like I said and I realize I'm arguing over something that is no more than a detail, and in the end it's your watch and you do whatever you want with it, but I just honestly think there was another reason to this movement choice. Cheers!

      @@owl23452 I had to go with Swiss or Chinese handwound if I wanted a small seconds movement but prefered Japanese to keep it affordable and reliable.

    Great watch 37mm is a sweet spot for a new-vintage lately, wish they made it hand-wind only that would resemble good old times even better, with a display case back ofc no matter how basic movement would be. But hey you cant have everything right ?

    Debating between this and the new Vacheron Historiques American 1921. This might be a better value. I gotta say this is a cool watch for sure! I hope you realize that you have ruined C3 for all of us now as our eyes have now been trained to hunt for greenish tints. Sort of like when your tongue won't stop fidgeting when you bite it. I love all the pairings you showed and of course the other two watches we got to see as well! great review as always Xavier! By the way, how much is the servicing on your Archer going to set you back? ;-)

    • @theknightswatch
      @theknightswatch  3 года назад +1

      Ahhh the Vacheron may be better bang for bucks if you drive a lot! And ya bgw9 must become the standard.
      No quite sure about the Archer. Makes me think I accidentally called my Tudor archer at some point but haven’t caught where yet haha. Either way I had it serviced a couple weeks ago and it ran 350.

    I wonder if they could have made it thinner with a hand wind only movement ? Cool watch though

    • @theknightswatch
      @theknightswatch  3 года назад

      Ya probably a little thinner but also more expensive. Don’t really know of any cheap Handwound movements that get used.

    • @VARIOeveryday
      @VARIOeveryday 3 года назад +2

      It can be a bit thinner with handwound but I would have to go Swiss or Chinese

    By the way I want to ask if you have heard of this microband called Montage watches? As I researched they were going for a name Millennial watches earlier and now changed their name. Their diver recently funded in Kickstarter but I just found out about them. Did you know anything about this watch brand before?

    • @theknightswatch
      @theknightswatch  3 года назад +1

      Yep I’ve heard of them, before and after the name chance. They come across a little fashion brand to me. The fumé dial idea is cool but I’ve never seen one in person so I couldn’t comment on the quality of the dial. May be a cool watch to get if they have a color you just love but otherwise probably some better stuff out there.

      @@theknightswatch thanks for the quick response! Yes it felt the same to me , I couldn't find so much info about them on the net as well. Their initial watch releases look to me very generic quartz watches like mvmt , their diver caught my attention because of the price point with a miyota 9015 in it. But I guess I'll skip them , tried to contact the company but they don't answer Instagram DMs and their website live chat doesn't work as well, weird.

  • @MrPleers

    it´s a shame they did not go with a handwound movement. Tissot did it right with their Heritage 1936. That one has a back that opens like a pocketwatch and gives a nice view of the movement. (And without a rotor blocking half of it.) Besides, there is something special about the ritual of winding a watch in the morning.

    • @theknightswatch
      @theknightswatch  3 года назад +2

      Fair point but that watch is also 45mm which is a little on the larger size and I wouldn’t wear it personally. Also retailer for about 1000 so I think this watch offers a lot at the price
