Why this is the WORST all inclusive resort in Mexico. (Cabo San Lucas Resorts 2023)

  • In my opinion, this is one of the worst Cabo San Lucas resorts out there. If you’re planning a vacation to Cabo San Lucas, I recommend avoiding this all inclusive resort called Hacienda Encantada Resort & Residences. We recently booked a 7 day all inclusive vacation package here based on the excellent reviews and relatively reasonable price (for Cabo) - but it was not at all what I expected. I’ve stayed at many all inclusive resorts throughout Mexico, and this property offered substandard service and amenities. In this video, I provide a tour of the entire resort here in Los Cabos, and let you in on where we were severely disappointed and why we would never stay here again.
If you’re planning to stay at an all inclusive resort for the first time, this resort does not provide the typical experience you should be expecting.
Throughout our stay we communicated numerous times with various staff and management and nothing was done to resolve our issues.
If you watch the whole video, I mention at the end who this resort might appeal to.
I was mostly disappointed because I’ve paid much, much less for superior resorts that offer more amenities and outstanding service.

Excellent review. It gives people all they need to make an informed decision as to whether they want to go to that resort or not. My wife and I went to a resort in Mazatlan that had just converted to being all inclusive and we had to sign for everything. It was a major pain in the butt, and the resort wasn't busy. If it was busy like yours, it would be even more of a pain. Just about every con you listed we've experienced at one resort or another. That's why you have to carefully sift through all of a resort reviews before you book to give you the best chance of staying at a resort that you are going to be happy with.

Thanks for the well edited and quality review. It gave a very thorough explanation of what's to expect. We are part of that "timeshare" group and its unfortunate that others are treated less than. I would hope they would just allow timeshare holders maybe a first come first serve but then open to the public, but that aside, there are some serious cons to this resort. Thanks for sharing your experience and including the good things too.

This happened in a resort in Playa Del Carmen that we had to stay at a wedding. They had two tiers and was significantly different to the point you could not go to certain pools in the resort or eat at certain restaurants for dinner. That was not good.

Thank you SO MUCH for making this video! My former girlfriend was dying to go to this resort and I kept saying "no way Jose" cause of the exact issues you were talking about. The separate levels of "all inclusive" is such a joke, an obvious con job all the way! And the fact that the beach area is "rock city" was the definite nail for me! Even if the ocean is unswimmable, I still like looking out and seeing a nice flat beach with waves crashing the shore, not the Rocky Mountains! The early closing of the pools and restaurants also was a killer, and NO NIGHTLIFE whatsoever?? Hell to the NO!!

We just finished our week (5/26) there and could not have had a better time. We did experience a slow response from house keeping on one occasion, but that's it. From the looks of your room - you booked the lower tier room they offer and maybe the services are different at the room level, I don't know. We did get a free upgrade on our room to the luxury suite and didn't even ask for it. The room had a full fridge and stove with double bathroom sink, walk-in shower and separate tub. The only separate level of all inclusive we found were the drink packages. We booked and paid in full in advance and found no reason to select the upper tier drink package. All our drinks were on par with what we would normally drink here at home.
We were there with 10 other family members and only 2 of them reported they were approached by someone from their timeshare group nor did they try to sale us an upgraded drink package.
When we checked out 5/26 the only additional charges we had were for the one excursion we had planned on taking. All the staff were very polite and accommodating, we never passed anyone on the grounds that did not say hello or asked how we were doing or did we need anything. Even the carts would stop every time and ask if we needed a ride.
If you want them in your room every day, yes you have to pay, but we kept our room as tidy as at home and found no need to pay someone to make our beds, but they came in every day and restocked the fridge for us at no charge and made the beds, but we didnt pay extra. We spent some time at the adult only pool since it was real close to our room but not in the evening so cant speak on their closing time, but we had no issues otherwise.
We found signing the bill constantly a little weird , but we didn't sign every single time. Seems like some of the waiters or bar tenders just didn't push that policy for whatever reason. We were told the bill was only for inventory tracking which did seem weird and one waiter at the breakfast buffet told us, they get charged for the bill if we don't sign it. We never once signed for any towels....
So, if the staff get charged, which isn't right, no wonder they all but insist you wait.
We had no problem getting coffee in the mornings, especially their "mexican coffee" from the breakfast buffet on the hill "Los Marias" I think is the name.. We always had plenty of water in our fridge with coke, coke lite and beers. Not sure why you had an issue. The service wait times weren't bad except on one occasion we wondered what was taking so long, but then here he came..
The carts - if you just sit there and wait, you probably gonna wait til one comes by. You should have called 1509 (Think that the number we called). We called and they were right there by the time we got off the elevator. Walking was never an issue, granted you are either on that sidewalk leading to and from the gift shop but there is plenty of room for you to walk safely with the carts going by.
They have at least two fitness centers. The one you took your video in and one down the hill right past the volleyball court. We also went into cabo to their sister marina, which we booked in advance and never had an issue waiting. Not sure why you had such a hard time. Im really thrown off by your claim of no nightlife or evening nite cap. The little bar outside our room had something going on every night when it got dark, cant remember its name, the music helped me sleep...lol
In closing - your experience was totally opposite of ours. There were an occasional wait or slowness, signing for things seemed weird, but like i said, one waiter at the hill top buffet said they get charged if we dont sign. We had two family members that just spent time at a Sandals all inclusive resort earlier in the year and actually like this place better. Maybe over the last six months since your stay, they changed some things because we had almost zero issues our whole time there and the one issue. House keeping forgot to restock the TP and wash cloths. They were on our floor and I just asked and it was provided.
We've already started talking about going back... The WORST all inclusive resort in Mexico !! Seems a bit harsh, but either my expectations were low or yours were to high. Just Sayin !!!!
Our experience was not like yours...

I figured since it was on the ocean, we’d be able to enjoy a seaweed free beach. BUT, there was no beach access…. Can’t even put your feet in the ocean water… (I don’t get it)…..

We just got back from there, we were booked at the Marina Fiesta but they upgraded us to the Hacienda Encantada because they said we were eligible because it might be too crowded and noisy because of all the spring breakers and it was a nicer resort. I wasn't a big fan of signing after each thing ordered as well. The service was super slow, we got in an big argument with the staff at La Pergola, because we had to catch the shuttle to town because we had tickets for the glass bottom boats, and the shuttle only ran every two hours. Either catch the shutttle or pay 25.00 taxi to the marina. Make sure you don't lose the ticket for the shuttle otherwise they won't let you one the shuttle coming back. The food took almost an hour to get to us and we ended up only have having to eat our lunch in 9 minutes to be on time to catch the shuttle which including the time to get the bill and sign for it which I had to go up to the cashier to get it and sign it. Apparently they only had one cook for the entire patio restaurant and they only cook one order at a time, and they said we ordered a lot of dishes because there was 4 of us. We made it to the shuttle walking super fast and they were loading people into the shuttle already, we were the last 4 to make it on shuttle before it was totally full. You are right, night life was virtually none existent, we had stayed at other resorts and they would have evening shows and people gather around the bars, but it was virtually dead at around 9 around there. We didn't hate our stay, but it was just kind of really quiet and the rooms were clean. Checking out go over your charges carefully, somebody had charge a meal on our room, but they charged it to my room which is separate from on the all inclusive. They took the charges off when they saw the signature did match. But I was a charged 60.00 additional because they said there were additional charges for backend service for all the other staff they we didn't see which was not revealed to me at the time of booking. The other couple had a charge of 5.00 each day for room sanitizing, when questioned about it they clerk immediately took the charge off which over 6 days was over 30.00. I think they put charges on the bill and if you don't question it they get away with it.

    • @alysmalls
      @alysmalls  Год назад +2

So, I would not recommend this property at all if it's going to be your first all inclusive experience ever. Technically speaking, you shouldn't have to spend a dime extra if you don't want to when staying at an all inclusive - other than tipping. The only thing would be transportation to and from the airport (if that's not already included if you booked a package), and excursions off the resort (e.g., snorkeling day trip) or a cab ride into town. Many resorts have an onsite spa which is extra, as well as motorized sports like sea-doo rentals which is extra. Hope that helps!

I found this review very accurate. During my stay however I would note that the staff was mostly rude and after being told by the front desk to NOT keep cash on us, had a very hard time getting service if we didn’t leave a large tip after every item ordered. I’m actually here right now and experiencing everything you said! Hard to get a hold of someone to make reservations to any of the restaurants, limited places to eat dinner with out a reservation. Place closes down early! All restaurants close at 10 pm and no nightlife. Also the kids zone is a joke, my kids are 10 and 11 and we are used to a “wired” lounge which is like an arcade and there is nothing to do for them past 12 noon and the kids zone by the pool is for 3 year olds and younger my 11 kid would break one of those chairs 😂 . Breakfast buffet subpar , cold items, omelet station takes 10 min per omelet. Service here overall is very slow and not customer service focused. That’s not what the highlight is here, the highlight here is ambiance. It’s a nice looking place.

We just got back from Hacienda Encantada 2 days ago. I thought it was sneaky that when you bought the all inclusive aka regular it was required to pay more to really get the all inclusive. Also I noticed your refridgerator had candy bars and way more drinks than ours did. Did you have to pay if you took those? I was worried about signing all those receipts.....what were we gonna be stuck paying but so far so good. My first all inclusive trip, so nothing to compare but I do do cruises. I thought the food was really good but I wonder if I should have stuck with the regular package. I didn't feel like the cart guys expected a tip but we did and I saw alot of NO tipping everywhere which I think is stingy those guys works their butt off and get really low wages.

The candy bars, chips & snacks that you saw were not included in the all inclusive package. So if you ate them you got charged. And I had bought milk at the store to have with the tiny cup of coffee from the in-room coffee maker. I asked if I could take some milk back with me from the breakfast buffet for my coffee they said no - that I had to buy it from them at the resort store. I'm sorry this resort was your first all inclusive - the next one will be much better I'm sure!

I haven't ready any comments - so this may have already been addressed. I think the issue about signing a "bill" for everything helps prevent theft and loss for the property. We've been to Los Cabos many times now, and have gotten so used to having to do that, I had pretty much forgotten the annoyance. but you're right. Our favorite All Inclusive is the Grand Fiesta Americana.

I purposely avoid all inclusive when I go to Cabo because there are SO many amazing places to eat off property. I would definitely not get my money's worth with an AI. Next time, rent a car and check out some local places. That being said I have experienced that kind of tiered resort where the color of your wrist band determines which pool you can swim in, what amenities you can use etc. This was in Playa del Carmen and it was so distasteful that we will never return. Who wants to feel like that on vacation!? Thanks for your review, I've always wondered about that place.

Since Covid, it seems to be the trend to have lower service levels and mediocre experience.
In the last 12 months, we stayed at three resorts and each and everyone could not come close to the ones we stayed in before COVID. And before COVID we paid less.
In fact, it already starts with airlines not caring one bit about passengers. We book premium or business and getting a drink or even a snack is too much to ask apparently.
Resorts have fewer employees working and cut back on food quality.
We are removing ourselves from the all-inclusive in favour of road trips where we are in control of our destiny.

I had a completely different experience at this resort. You never mentioned Mestizo which is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Cabo. I walked to the lighthouse/church many mornings to watch the sunrise. You also did not mention that they are aligned with restaurants at the Marina like the Oyster Bar. I think I might have had the premium all inclusive though. My stay there was awesome !! Signing the bills was a pain , I have to agree with you there.

Thank you for the comment. Yes, the Marina restaurants are included in the regular package. We showed up at the Oyster Bar 1 hour before closing (as indicated on the pamphlet received at check-in) - only to be told the hours of operation were incorrect and that they had already closed. Additionally, we made all our dinner reservations on the first day of arrival, nothing was available for Mestizo, even though we visited in August (i.e., off season), and Mestizo is included in the regular package (we spoke to several guests who had eaten there throughout the week - empty tables all around them, not sure why we were denied a reservation). Unfortunately too many other things went wrong to list that I didn't have time to include in the video. I enjoyed my walks to the lighthouse too, it's a nice spot. Sorry for the long reply!!

Hi! I came across your video as I’m thinking of staying here again and wanted to share my thoughts. I stayed here one time 3 years ago and although it was not perfect (is any all-inclusive resort truly perfect?) it was pretty good. I enjoyed the views, pools, drinks and food. I do admit the first night I got there we were not greeted in any special way and I was annoyed by the fact we had to sign checks for what I thought was all inclusive. I had to call the front desk a handful of times to ask if we were being charged because I didn’t understand the point of having to sign even though it’s paid for? It definitely added some unnecessary stress but once I found out it’s just for documentation/tracking purposes, I didn’t mind it too much. I’d say those were my two biggest flaws or things I wasn’t happy with. I definitely want the food at an all inclusive to be good as well as there to be a swim up bar. Hard trying to find something with a similar price range that has these things I want. The service we received was also pretty good in my opinion.

They should stop using the "All Inclusive" title and just stay as a time share and see how that goes for them. Definetly not an experience I'm looking for. Having good food at restaurants or nice views depends on good chefs and a great architecht, not with customer experience hotel management which is where this property is showing it's deepest grooves. Ultimately, some good services or points don't cover for how far this property is from the true amazing (and costly) All inclusive experience.

They have daily and nightly entertainment, the restaurants are great two are on the beach with view of the ocean, food and drinks are great, outstanding manicured grounds, a 24/7 shop (food, bottle drinks, fruit etc), room service is included, you don’t even have to leave the resort, it has everything,. It great for both families and couples too. We stayed there in 2019 for 10 nights and loved it. After Aly’s review looks like we might be staying there again in May. That or the Hard Rock.

In the airport waiting for my flight back to Cabo…😎
My condo here has housekeeping services and we only cook breakfast!
But you are right… in all depends on the experience you are seeking… tourist or adventure traveler?
My experience is that resort travel is too big a risk…
Plus, shopping for groceries in a foreign land can be a fun adventure! 😱
Hopefully, you decide to return to Cabo one day and give it another chance!

I wouldn't like this place at all. I get annoyed having to wait on a damn bill here in America and usually ask for it mid-meal so when I'm ready to go I can GO...so waiting for a check when it's prepaid anyway would really tick me off. If you are a guest at the property you shouldn't be 2nd class to time share people. Don't even permit non-timeshare guests if that's how they want to run the place. I'd be infuriated walking past an empty restaurant that I couldn't walk in and be served when I wanted to be served. Clearly there were very few TS guests there anyway. If a place was supposed to be open until 10 pm then I'd damn well expect it to be open until the stated time. Hard pass on a place like this!!

I googled Swoop airlines and read your comprehensive blog which was really well written! It lead me here to your channel 😊I loved your honest review and I appreciate it…I would absolutely NOT like this resort. The signing for everything seems to me like a way to get a tip percentage. I can’t stand resorts that push you to tip all the time especially if you already paid so much to be there. The daily cleaning fee is also really strange. I stayed in a Cabo all inclusive last year (Riu Santa Fe) and I though I had stayed in Cabo’s worse all inclusive until I saw this video! I do have to admit however that the presentation of the food looked amazing. Thank you for this great video ☺️👌

We just got back from Cabo, different high end resort. Beautiful area. Everyone is trying to get your money and they are not shy about tipping. Resort meals were $200-$300 with drinks. Our nicest meal off resort (very good with wine) was $550 US and the waiter explained that 25% gratuity was customary. OUCH. You'll feel like you've been to prison. Had a great time but just felt like we were preyed upon.

My experience with an all inclusive resort is very limited due to the fact that I’ve only stayed at one. My husband and I spent our honeymoon with an “All Inclusive” resort in Cancun, Mexico. It was exceptional. I had a wonderful time and would definitely book one again. I’m glad that you posted this video to warn others. I have been looking online for different resorts we can go to in the near future. Based on your experience, I will steer clear from this one. Was this hotel a part of a larger group of resorts? The one we stayed at had numerous resorts in and close to Cancun and we were free to experience (the dining , nightlife and drinks for free) the others in Cancun free of charge, which was an added bonus. Out of curiosity, Why are you not allowed to swim in the ocean? Also, did you have any issues once you got home from eating salad or drinking frozen mixed drinks? We were both cautious of drinking any of the local water and drank only bottled water, but because we ate salads and drank mixed drinks, we both ended up sick once we got home. Upon reflection, the salads are cleaned with local water and the ice was made from the local water too. I hope by mentioning this that someone else will take this into account to prevent Montezuma‘s revenge.

First of all, thanks for the video, super informational and I won't be going to the hotel. I am wondering how who did you book through? and I am just questioning that, for making so much research as you mentioned, you really got the wrong hotel darling, this hotel is clearly time share, as soon as you go to the website, you can tell! That is the thing with Cabo, they are overwhelming trying to get victims, :) I hate time shares. I also think that they protect the guesses by charging them for everything because of the staff...... Not kidding, I guess they steal and that way, they don't, that's why all the stupid signing everything..., that is is just ridicules. The hotel looks sad, however the presentation of the food looks amazing...

Aly, thanks so much for your honest review.
I stayed at Riu Santa Fe about 10 years ago and loved everything about it except the very rough non swimmable beach, which looks like you had the same beach type as well. They also have private jacuzzis. I probably won’t stay there again though because of the beach.
My next goal is to find an all inclusive by Medano Beach, which is the only swimmable beach in the area.
Just starting my research on that. Eyeing up Breathless Cabo, which is now a Hyatt property. It’s at the marina right by the beach. If you get there before me, please do a review!

    • @alysmalls
      @alysmalls  Год назад

I've stayed at Breathless just south of Cancun and loved it, so hopefully the one in Cabo is great too. We walked passed it at the Marina - it's an interesting concept because the pool and hotel overlooks the Marina and not the beach. The cool thing is that you'd be within walking distance to all the fun bars and restaurants.
