    You are such a good instructor. Long time plant addict, I learn something each time I watch one of your videos. Thanx.

    Great tips, Jeff! I came back home from being away a week and I noticed spider mite damage on my P. hederaceum varieties, my Brazil included! I cut back any stems with speckled leaves, gave a good spray treatment with diluted peppermint castile soap, and wiped each leaf both sides with a clean microfibre cloth. Spider mites thrive in warm and dry environments so I’m mitigating by running a humidifier nearby and it’s already helped a ton👏🏻

    Thank you for explaining the gentler transition of taking water-propagated cuttings into a small pot of soil, THEN into the larger pot with the mother plant. This was a mistake I used to make (going directly from water to the larger container) and lost many plants to it. I discovered the "tiered-up" method quite by accident (or keen observation?) but I'm glad to see it highlighted so others can propagate their plants more successfully!

      Yes....I think we have all fallen victim to the rapid death of water to soil propagation haha

    Great video, Jeff! I am watching with my mother. She said I hadn't seen him for a long time.

    Thank u so much. I didn't know that or ever notice that i need to acclimate first the propagated cuttings in soil then move it to the mother plant for some plants, coz i've always killed my philo neon & brazil until i already gave up and not buying them. Subd😊

    I have what I believe is a neon philodendron….same shape as Brazil but all bright green or I should say used to be neon green 😟 I don’t see any bugs but the leaves are turning yellow and so weak that they’re just falling off. It’s in a terracotta pot I tried growing it up but now it’s a bunch of sparse vines. I’m thinking of cutting it down placing the vines in water and then removing the roots of what’s left into a small nursery pot 🤞and hope for something to happen. What do you think?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  7 месяцев назад +4

      Have you looked at the roots recently? I would pull it out and see if it's root bound and has root rot. Feel free to send a picture to my Instagram account if you want me to have a look

    Hey Jeff, does it make a difference when you prune plants? Like should I wait until spring to prune my jade or pothos plants or can I do it now?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  7 месяцев назад +1

      Depends on your lighting situation. If natural light then I'd wait a few more weeks for more sunlight. If you have grow lights, then you should be able to anytime.

    Thank you Jeff, I find that when I prune my vining plants the leaves grow back really small. What to you think I can do to get bigger growth, they are getting good light from a south west window and a grow light ??

    I have lost several cuttings, simply because I didn't know about water roots & soil roots. What about sphagnum or perlite propagation?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  7 месяцев назад

      Perlite would be best for ease of transitioning.....but for pretty much guaranteed success of rooting then water is the way to go if you are unfamiliar with the other methods

    • @DrinknStitch
      @DrinknStitch 7 месяцев назад

      @@EverythingPlants I have done sphagnum rooting for years. But tbh, those are the cuttings I give away. I don't know how they turn out. Ooops! That prop box is big enough, that I could push the moss to one end & put small pots with dirt in the other, if needed.
      I started some pothos in perlite as this week's experiment.

    i think you need to be more clear about pruning monsteras and philos... chopping the top off WILL activate a lower node, but usually only one. it also reverts the maturity of the newly growing leaves, which is extremely undesirable for most owners of these plants. a bushy monstera or philo is best achieved without pruning from what i know. please correct me if i’m missing something, though.

      Yes....you are correct. Thanks
      I actually went in and cropped that part out as it is confusing/conflicting information. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

    I have to laugh when I think of my reluctance, years ago, to trim or prune a plant. Now I don’t think twice about it.
