i always thought the "my mom" thing was one of those things where you can make fun of your family, but it's wrong when other people do it

The show honestly a balance of ongoing stuff while having self contained episodes. Like how muscleman wasn't really around around in season 1 but now because of "My Mom" he is around a lot more as one of the guys while also having more self contained episodes like "Rage Against the TV"
I love how My Mom became funny, unfunny, then funny again with endearment and is always a blast to hear.
It definitely continues to develop into a genuine plot to answer your question. There are 7 seasons of this so just keep note of that. Some of the best episodes are yet to come

Funny story. Billy Mitchell tried to sue Cartoon Network for the making of the High Score episode under defamation of character, but it didn’t work.
GBF is indeed Billy Mitchell. That giant bag of gas sued the show over GBF (and lost).
People who work in the field or are tasked with errands have to check in to let their employers know that they have a good reason to stop so their employers know what they are doing. Otherwise, if a task takes longer than it should, employers will think you are unreliable. Letting your boss know that you are stopping for lunch or to get something important lets your boss know that you have a good reason to stop.
Rage Against the TV was the first episode i ever saw of the show, i was instantly hooked.

Is it just me, or is Muscle Man kind of irritating now? As a kid I found him funny but as an adult I've come to realize that he can be really annoying and he dishes it out but can't take it a lot
As for Benson I jave come to appreciate and understand him a lot more but ue definitely still has anger issues
