  • You can do it yourself! Over time, lint and debris builds up in your dryer vent. Many times years go by without removing this flammable material. Today we use a brush kit with 20 feet of rods and to go up through the pipe and clean it out. You'll be amazed at the pile of dirt and lint you find. Use a shop vacuum to clean up and you're good to go. You'll need a brush kit, a cordless drill, and a vacuum. Links to the ones we use are listed below.

WOW... what a great video, as usual. One thing I caught that some people may not, is the warning that "it's NOT recommended for use on flexible foil or vinyl ducts." Of course, that's for side vents on a house. Also, I saw recently that you can use the lint as a fire starter by packing it into a toilet paper tube (empty of course). I always love DIY videos because I have to do most repairs myself. Can't wait for the next one! ❤️🧡💜🤎💛💚💙

Tom & Jerry, that was super instructional. We bought a 26 year old home recently. My dryer vent tube goes horizontal, down through a crawl space, and back up out of our exterior wall. I’m wondering how successful this method would be for my situation. Our clothes have been taking a very long time to dry, which makes me think it’s clogged and due for a clean out. Gravity seemed to be helpful here for you, beyond your teamwork and camaraderie. Nice job! Inspirational video and very important to do. We had neighbors whose dryer and house caught on fire due to a clogged vent. They were home at the time. Good thing.

Morning Jerry, Linda and Gizmo. Maintenance is very important. I never did it myself but when I built my home in the Poconos, I had the service plan for my washer/dryer/ refrigerator/dishwasher/and tv. Annual maintenance and anything in between. When lived in an apartment, the maintenance was great with checking the A/C filters/fire and carbon monoxide alarms and whatever needed. This video is great for the DIY folks. I could never. Look at the lint. I’m itching just seeing it. 😂. I’ll continue with the service plans. Have a great weekend. Thanks so much and see you next video.

Maybe use a small mirror at a 45 degree angle and flashlight to look up there. Take a before and after picture. I use my wife's makeup mirror and her tooth brush in the hard to reach nooks and crannies (just kidding about toothbrush :). I'm sure that lint was all from the previous owner, too:) My long term solution to this is stop washing clothes, that keeps the utility bill down and washer and dryer don't wear out.😀🤣

.My ex was the volunteer fire department chief. Here in our little town we don’t have very many fires in a year.. But it never fails:there are 4-5 dryer fires a year. Of. Course, it’s under the house or goes up the wall out the attic. They can burn a while before you know it and spread to the whole crawl space/basement or attic area. At minimum get it done once a 6ear. 2-3 times a year of you do lots of loads of clothes a week. Will make your dryer more efficient and dry quicker.
I also take the opportunit6 to take the back off the dryer and vacuum all the lint out of the corners and crevices.

Great Video Jerry & Linda. I am surprised that they build the houses like that with the dryer vent going up the wall and through the roof. All the houses I have owned the Laundry rooms were on an outside wall and the vent went out through the wall.

We've only lived in our new home 9 months so I'm not concerned about the dryer lint yet. But once we've been here in TV for 2 years I will have it cleaned. Thanks for the reminder!

Every time I use the dryer I clean out the lint tray/screen. Is all that collected debris simply lint that has escaped the lint tray/screen or is it the result of not cleaning the lint tray/screen after every use?

I always clean the lint tray whenever I use the dryer. You still need to clean the vents or there is a danger of fire.

This is what escapes the lint screen. A little each time but it adds up.

Thanks for the valuable information. We’ve lived in our condo 5 years ad should check into this as well as the dishwasher filter something I’ve never thought about either.
