    Hi Richard,
I've had a special copy of Manic Nirvana for years now and have never played it. It is some kind of special issue box with the record and CD in one package. Keeping it for prosperity I guess. I did really like Fate of Nations when it came out. 29 Palms is an amazing song.

@@richardfilmer616 Its a German promo copy apparently. I have a friend who was recruited to manage the closure of a record shop. This was sometime about 2005 when records really were on the way out. He came to me after with a small clutch of gems that he had saved for me. I've kept the box set assuming it was the last of whole generational format of music, but since records are back in fashion again I guess I really should play it. LOL

    Hi Richard,
I've taken the plunge and broken into my Manic Nirvana special edition box set. On first listen it seems that the first half is very stylised. What I hear is rock music that has a very compressed studio sound. At the time it was probably a natural progression from Now and Zen, but to todays ears it sounds a little dated. It's been a few years since I played Fate of Nations, but compared to much of Robert Plants work that he did after that period, I'd say he relied on the studio a lot to create his vibe. His more recent work including Walking into Clarksdale and most things since have had a much more organic/acoustic quality to them I would say.
Did you ever hear his collaboration with Alison Krauss? They made an album called Raising Sand in 2007. That kind of authentic acoustic quality suits the voice that Robert Plant has now IMO. I's say his raucous Led Zep rocking days as past him.

Yes Manic Nirvana's sound is definately of it's time, perhaps lacks a bit of warmth.
I have heard the music he performed with Alison Krauss.
Not blown away by it though,a bit too laidback in parts.
As far as his voice goes,i think he knows what his limits are these days.
Singing Dazed and confused ain't on the cards no more.

I'm a Zeppelin disciple, but Fate of Nations is the only Plant album I've ever owned, as I could never bring myself to dig into his solo material, as I feared it might tarnish his legend for me. Similarly for Jimmy, with Coverdale/Page being as far as I've ever delved into his post-Zep career. I suppose with digital media being what it is these days, it would be pretty easy to test the waters before committing to shelling out a wad of money for something which may ultimately prove to be disappointing 🤘

Hi there Adam.Like i said in the video his solo work is quite varied and different. The mistake would be to compare it to Zep's work,it's an entirely different beast bar a few tracks here and there.Maybe check out the first disc on the compilation album Sixty Six To Timbuktu, that should give you a good cross section.Old Jimmy has been pretty slack when compared to Mr. Plant's output.Hope you find some tunes that appeal.
Stay well and thanks for the feedback.

I recommend listening the Walking into Clarksdale album he did with Jimmy Page. It's not really what you'd call Zeppelin-esque but they make a fantastic mature rock record together that is worthy of their pedigree. Would be a shame to mis it.
