Alot of people are quick to point out that apparently these shows are quite similar and as a huge fan of the cat girl of sakurasou, I'll tell you besides the disability aspect and that both female leads makes friends that's it. Komis only makes real friends with 2 characters and the rest of the cast who the show tell us are her friends are just one dimensional worshipping idiots that don't change. Komi doesn't build relationships with them on a personal scale. Meanwhile The Cat Girl of Sakurasou is one of the most beautiful and emotional roller-coasters you'll go on as the entire cast gets flushed out as they interact with each other, have their highs and lows, schools and career goals as the topic of prodigy vs hard work is brought up, friends supporting each other even when it's the friend your jealous off cause their the prodigy who everything comes easy to. So at the end of this, no these shows share the basic genre 101 but when it comes to quality and standards, Cat Girl of Sakurasou will remain a 9/10 but after watching Komi S1 and the theme being friendship and all those fake worshipping idiots that didn't change, that show is like a 6.5/10. I understand the Japanese downplaying. Seems like the western casual audience dickriding it on Netflix
