Yes , major domos , was hoping that what you were going to say , remember them well , my mate had a pair on when we went to the Where Eagles Dare at the Saturday matinee !
The old soldier boots from Czechoslovakia.. my wine pair seem to be still shiny and new, with their bright yellow laces.. purchased another pair of the Grafters model in black, but they are in the wardrobe with my collection of DJ footwear.. i'm like Imelda Marcos' son with the amount of daisies i have!!! Keep up the great work Mark & Bax ✊🏽✊🏽
The first Monkey Boots in Bermondsey came off the Polish boats in the Surrey Docks, which meant we had 'em before they were in the shops. I always remember they had the word ZUCH on the sole, which I've just read means, Scout.
I interviewed Fred the shoe for vice magazine 15 years ago, when the shop was still open in Camberwell. Sad that’s it gone now . I hadn’t heard Major Domo boots mentioned for decades! They were big in Scotland in the early 70s .
Another good episode lads. Had my first DM's in black 8 hole in 1980 aged 14. They where worn for school..definitely because of the 2 Tone rude boy look at the time. I bro had Monkey Boots. A year later had red colour pair. Your right about ripping your heals to shreds....😂. Look forward to the next episode Mark and Bax..
Great episode chaps. I’m from the West Midlands and I remember around 1974 there was a phase of spray painting Doc Martens various colours. It was definitely football related. If you do an episode on denim, I also remember jackets and jeans being customised a lot with the Levi badge for instance moved and sewn into various places. Lots of individual creativity on the street. Cheers, Tim Doran
Another blinder boys. Yes as a kid and in early 20s I was a Monkey Boot wearer. First to kick about and later for work. In fairness I never got on with them. A bit unforgiving and a couple of times had them run over by a car to soften them up. But always pleased to show patronage to the Army surplus stores on Walworth Rd. Fantastic banter and informative as always lads. Thank you.
You ain’t wrong. For all the down at heel ambience, couldn’t care less attitude and lack of hygiene and cleanliness they were a go to destination. Sad to see them gone.

Ain't heard Tesco Bombers said for years! We used it for anyone whose jeans weren't Levi.
We did indeed

Yes Fred's shop was legendary. Now retired down in Kent and seems to be doing fine

If only those 2 shops on the Walworth Road were still going , they could have sponsored the show...
