    Aviation Management is a great degree! It gives you a broad understanding of aviation and management. In addition, there are more jobs than ever in this field, so finding jobs shouldn't be a problem, unlike some jobs. I am pursuing my second year of the Bachelor of Aviation Management degree program at Massey University in New Zealand.

    I go to ERAU and am majoring in Aeronautics. Unfortunately, you don't get the R-ATP with anything outside of Aeronautical Science there (Used to be able to til the flight department became an overcrowded mess) but its a more flexible degree for sure. To be honest, if I were to do college and flight training again, I would have just gone to a regular college and majored in something completely unrelated to aviation and fly at a local Part 61. Airlines really don't care that much what your degree is in and it really gives you a backup to major in something non-aviation.

I appreciate your valuable guidance.

    Choosing an aviation school was hard but what made it harder and a little bit easier to pick was the majors. Aeronautical Science is too specific imo and like you said it doesn’t provide good backups. I want to be an airline pilot but after choosing erau I’ve chosen Air Traffic Management because I get my dispatchers and UAS certificate along with the degree. Not having a backup scares me in case my medical fails so I chose air traffic to give me something to fall on and something that will keep me in aviation even if I might lose my medical. Another great vid!!

    What gets me stressed out is when I finish my instrument rating, I’ll work on my commercial certification, and hopefully get my 250 hours under part 91…and nobody will hire me. They’ll want you to have 300, 500, or even 1000 hours. Meanwhile, there is a pilot shortage.

      Hey, great idea.. consider this, every paths can lead you to aviation and thus to become a pilot. To start, I'll consider doing a degree in aerospace engineering (if you good at math/comfortable with STEM in general). Otherwise, an aviation management degree will be a great starting point. Don't stop dreaming and keep learning from anything you can.

    I got rejected from Purdue's Pro Flight but got into their Aviation Management. Purdue has aircraft for their flight program and another flight school half owned by Purdue for part 61. I committed to aviation management last year and am now going to be a sophomore in a few months and already have my CFI. Pro flight students usually get their CFI in Junior year. I was bummed I got rejected initially but holy crap did I save so much time and money. I'll have the 1500 I need before graduation since I'm working year round so the 1000 hour RATP doesn't affect me since I did all this very early. If you are in high school aspiring to be a pilot, I would highly recommend getting your PPL and IR done in high school then going to college and finish everything at a 61. Plus, I actually really enjoy aviation management at Purdue. It's literally all the pro flight classes but they sub the flying courses with business classes. Very aviation involved.

    meh, if you did an aviation management degree at age 20, worked as a pilot for 25 years and lost your medicals, no one is going to care about which degree title you earned 25 years ago. It's a young and naive perspective that subtleties in degrees make a difference, I did a software engineering degree, the people that did a computer science degree are working the same jobs as me (sometimes the people that do 3 month programming bootcamps do too)

    • @LukePylypciw

      @yaakovhassoun8965 Год назад

      @@LukePylypciw What if you graduate and you can't get hired as a (whatever job you plan on doing with the aviation management degree). It's hard for most people to get their first job in any field after college.
      As for your point about the losing the medicals, I think that if you're not passing your medicals you have bigger problems to deal with. Not everyone can control their health so I don't want to assume it's all within your control, but you need to be prepared to live a healthy lifestyle when becoming a pilot. When I heard it was more expensive to rent the cessna 172 vs 152 for my training and I needed to be under 80kg to be in the 152, I went on a diet. and I got my weight down but I still stuck to my diet and new exercise regime because I can't afford to invest this type of money and have my license taken away. It's not a guarantee that I won't have medical problems, but by avoiding smoking, by not consuming too much sugar and healthy dieting many problems can be avoided.
      And even if you fail your medicals, you can always retrain for a different career at a later point, take a year off and go back to school become an ATC or learn aviation management, airplane mechanic etc if you want to stay in the field... failing your medicals doesn't mean your life is over it can be a setback but lead to new career choices
