One of my personal favourites (I *do* have quite a few). I love seeing them just as invested and engaging in a small venue as they are at a massive stadium show. It's an interesting melody and I think a different tuning on some of the instruments to really get that middle eastern vibe. Floor is the consummate performer !! (Yes, I'm in love!!) 🙂 Cheers from Oz.
The musical subtleties are delicious. The performance is stellar. I feel robbed in a way, that I'm just now discovering them. 🤷🏼♀️ But I'm here now... 💃🏼
Thanks for your reaction to this underated song. You said you liked celtic music try I want my tears back from Buenos Aires and My Walden from Wembley. See you for the next one🇬🇧
What rarely gets mentioned is Troy in the background playing guitar with E-bow to create that droning effect plus Marko's excellent bass work. One of my favourites.
One of the discussions between Tarja and Tuomas was about the size of the venues. Tarja wanted to skip the small ones because they lost money on playing there. For Tuomas playing the smaller venues was and still is a inseparable part of the band.❤
"She says whatever the fuck she wants!" Right off the bat that should tell you this is the kind of friend you never want to forget to invite to parties or cookouts around the campfire. The greatest personality you can ask for in a bud! Yeah, this is an underrated song not mentioned so often. It's one of my favorites for sure! My wife and I missed this Tampa show by one day. When we went to the next venue, they had changed the setlist by only one song... this one. Interesting sidenote: This U.S. tour was the one where they toured with Delain in the good ole Charlotte Wessels days. Delain is another incredibly awesome symphmetal rabbit hole you'll prob'ly want to explore at some point. They are also Dutch. In fact, four of the five greatest female vocalists in the world (IMHO) are Dutch: Floor, Charlotte, Simone Simons, Sharon den Adel, and Anneke van Giersbergen. It must be something in the water in the Netherlands!
@@VocalCitizen Oh for sure the rabbit holes will take you a while. I first discovered symphonic metal in 2008, and I'm still not finished with said rabbit holes!! I was home from work on medical leave recovering from cancer surgery and feeling pretty negative about my future prospects even though the surgeon assured me I was good to go and would most likely never have to worry about it again (looks like he was right, fingers still crossed). That song which re-energized my outlook was, surprise surprise, Ghost Love Score... the 2005 End of an Era version with Tarja. So, in a manner of speaking, Tuomas participated in saving my life without even knowing it! I'd like to tell him that if it was possible, but that's not gonna happen! LOL
This is the mark of the professionalism in the band, they give their all to a stadium audience and a club audience just the same. The song is sort of a sleeper in their live catalog, there aren't any mega live production videos of this floating around. And never worry about interpreting Nightwish lyrics, even in the rare cases when Tuomas has explained something, holding a different interpretation is a basic act of feeling and imagination to me. Any and every interpretation of the words is unique to the interpreter.
Wow, your production rate is astonishing!!! Well done!!! For changes you could also try out the solo stuff from Floor. It will show you that she can literally do anything. Like her cover from "Alone", or "shallow"..... But please also continue with your Nightwish discoveries. That's the strange thing with Nightwish or Ayreon for that matter: they don't do bad songs. It's all fantastic.
This song doesn't get reacted to as often as it should, Anette era , from the 2007 Dark Passion Play album. It is a history of Egypt from a fantasy perspective. Yes, "1001 nights unseen" is a reference to the collection of Arabic tales, which includes Ali baba and the 40 Thieves. Tampa, Florida , you see that the venue size is smaller for them here in the US. Some fans will try to tell you Floor was pregnant here, she wasn't. Show was in March of 2016, her first daughter was born March of 2017. You want something from Nightwish you might not have ever expected? Then try "Slow Love Slow" from the 2012 Montreux jazz festival, that will be with Anette on vocals.
I Love your Nightwish and Ayreon reactions! You are becoming one of my favorite reactors. A band you might like to try is The Warning. They are a 3 piece sister band from Monterrey, Mexico. I recommend Evolve from the 2023 MTV VMA first. If you try them out, remember you have been Warned!🎸🤘
Another great reaction. One of the things I love about this video is the contrast with their European or South American shows. This show is typical of their US shows and the smaller venues they play. When I saw them in 2022 in Boston they played the U Mass-Lowell hockey arena which was configured for maybe 2000 people as opposed to the 10,000 to 12,000 stadiums they play in Europe. Because of those small venues the stage production was much smaller. No video walls, no pyro. On the plus side it is easy to get great seats for the show ( i was 8 rows from the stage). I am always greatfull that Nightwish has such an appreciation for their fans that they still come to the states, play these small venues, and put the same energy into their shows as if they were playing to bigger crowds. Seeing them in 2022 was the best concert of my life. Also got to see Epica that summer as well. That was a great summer.
It's an amazing performance by a pregnant Floor. Last year Nightwish released the official live of another song, "Tribal", performed by a once again pregnant Floor
Great reaction! And I have suggestion for you: I think you have not yet done anything from the younger Floor in her bands before Nightwish, mainly After Forever and Revamp. A great live from After Forever is "Dreamflight" live at the progpower 2007. This is a great song/ composition and in it Floor does a great vocal improvisation / solo...
I love you way you are jumping around with their songs and not sticking to “the list” 😉 In my opinion The 2018 Buenos Aires concert is their best and features a catalogue of their history - Plus Floor is dressed as a Superhero throughout which helps 😂

Thomas has said that the lyrics are essentially nonsensical (rather like David Bowie’s Life on Mars). Written after the departure of Tarja, Tuomas clearly identifies with Scheherazade’s plight (or perhaps the wives that perished before her). The Saharan part is about fleeing the Pharaoh’s wrath (the queen is the desert and the pharaoh the angry fans). The caravan of the cursed is a metaphor for the sand dunes , endlessly drifting across the desert . However he is finally able to find rest because the perceived threat is only a mirage from his own imagination. In summary this song covers aspects of Poet and the Pendulum and Meadows of Heaven (all 3 being on the Dark Passion Play album).
Are you up for another Nightwish version of Phantom of the Opera....check out their 2005 version from End of an Era. I think it might tweak your curiosity. Nightwish is in my top three bands.. They have had four distinct eras. TPOTO is from their first and fourth. Enjoy 🤘🤘🤘💥💥💥

I love how that person holds up a giant guitar pick, and Emppu goes to his tray, picks one up, and personally hands it to him/her. Fabulous gesture.
That's the artist in him. Not Emppu the "famous guitarist".
I love artists who aim to create individual memories for the fans.

Nightwish - Alpenglow, live in Mexico City. Another banger for sure
Gotcha!
I agree, the picture on the left hand wall reminds me of that song. lol
This is a hidden gem. It is one of the many under rated songs in the Nightwish catalog. Epic!🤘🎸

It's coming.
And I Want My Tears Back from BA is the most fun song from that concert

One of my favorite Nightwish songs. I always think of this as Tuomas' nod to Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir"
Okay... I can see that... 👍🏻
At last , someone else can hear Kashmir in this, I've always thought that. I love this song and Kashmir. I would love to hear Floor sing Kashmir.

Fantastic, this...
As you might notice in the wide shots of the band, Floor is TALL (6'2") That helps to explain why she's so powerful.
