Thanks for making this series of videos, I like the way you give the reasons why things work or are the way they are. I was fascinated to learn why 455 became the standard IF frequency. I'm a similar age to you and am returning to radio in my retirement, so with the lack of knowledge and enthusiasm a of a youngster. I guess that makes me a geriatric teenager! 🤣👍
You need to make a video of that fax machine, I have a thing for fax and anything fax related. Hellschreiber, wefax, hylafax, and regular telco fax are just some of my interests.
You have several options. One side tuned. Both sides tuned. Also the distance between coils. The further they are apart the more narrow the bandwidth but you will need more gain. The real old IF coils use Litz wire and a larger diameter coil. Using a Ferrite Choke is the next best thing.
Hello there I have constructed some IF transformers but I am stuck on what to use for a shielding can would you recommend using tin copper or aluminium.
I might have mentioned the tubing in part 1 I stopped the series when it got no hits. Now it became popular. You may notice I do experiments then a few come together to make a complete unit.
@@johnkleinbauer4424 I keep looking out for your projects and others of the like I didn't use chokes with mine I wave wound my coils to which I constructed a experimental superhet to test so far so good.
@@roberthorseman7432 If you look at my Arduino Coil Winder doing a Wave coil you can see I was going that way at some point. Then I went with chokes and tuning caps.
Love your videos. A lot better than other stuff out there.
Howdy.
That is some serious dedication ...
Regards.

Great two part series on making an IF transformer. I will make one for myself.

@johnkleinbauer4424 Thank you, sir, for the great information. Anytime I learn something or gain a good tip, it's a good day.
Thankyou
Those adverts are a pain in the arse.
A little drawing of the schematic on a peace of paper would help a lot to understand what´s in the can.
Try Google! My Video is about the construction.
@uwe Look at most tube radio schematics.

I used 1" Square Aluminum tubing. The Perf Board decks slide inside it. Most home supply stores sell it in 4' lengts.
@@johnkleinbauer4424 Thanks for getting back to me I shall look around to see what I can get maybe I will upload what I have done.👍👍
