Also, some of the clichéd horror stings were stupid and the director should have just cut out most music in general. Let the actors speak with no annoying music would make it creepier. I started off watching the series thinking I could get past its short comings with the budget, but then they brought in the whole military aspect and everything went downhill from there.
Half the characters in there should have been dead by like episode 4 and I can't get around why they decided to make the Ex cop a gangster. I legitimately believe that they thought the writer was serious when he was called a gangster in the beginning of the webtoon.
Furthermore, the child actors really need to be told to be quiet. The little kid did nothing but cry (in the webtoon they did the same but in there you couldn't hear them) and they changed the age of the smart kid's sister just for her to act bitchy and annoy everyone in the apartment building.
But as you said, gonna have to wait to see if season 2 can fix some things.

I liked the idea of people turning into a monster that resembles their ultimate desire. I think one of my favorite monster in the show was the half head monster. There were really great scary scenes involving this one. The fact that it can't see but is really deadly when he hears you adds absolutely great moments in the show. Towards the middle though some fight scenes were purposely cut and we're showed only the aftermath of the supposed fight from said monster (cgi budget cuts?). And a lot of the drama and conversations felt like fillers which adds nothing to the show.

I just finished watching the live action on Netflix. Coming from someone who read the webtoon for years (as well as the Author's previous work, "Bastard") I would say that the first 4 episodes did a pretty good job of representing the webtoon. However after that, it went off track from the webtoon I believe because they started production at the same time of when the webtoon was still ongoing and not yet complete, so they had to come up with their own plot development. They changed some of the character relationships, who died when, how they died, what their powers were, etc., Honestly, i didn't really know how to feel about it some of it. I will say that I did like the addition of the firefighter lady, cuz she wasn't in the webtoon. Also how in the webtoon the ex-cop was changed into a gangster/hitman. But I DID NOT like was the smart guy's younger sister. In webtoon, she was quiet and honestly didn't add much to the plot as other characters, but in the live action that girl was SUPER annoying and rude for no reason. Also, sometimes the placement of music was .. off. Like, the Imagine Dragons song. The webtoon is still WAAAAAY better and I encourage any one who hasn't already to read it. However, I will say the live action did a pretty ok job (especially at the beginning and the scary scenes actually did scare me). As compared to other dramas I've seen that were adapted from webtoons, manga, etc Sweet Home was one of the better ones.

I feel like this could’ve been a great show but everything the show portrayed was made very poorly. It’s almost like they were on a low budget and tried to put most of it into the monsters instead of the story itself. The reason the WEBTOON was so good was because it allowed us to connect and sympathize for many things that happen to the mc. An example of this is it shows us why the mc was living alone and why he wanted to kill himself. In the show all it did was show he was living alone wanting to kill himself for no reason. It didn’t allow us to try to relate or connect to the mc in any way, you can’t even feel sympathy for him because you don’t even know what’s wrong. It’s almost like they try to speed run the story.

I watched six episodes expecting the show to become any good since it has potential. Holy shit is it boring. The mc doesn't talk at all yet nearly 90% of the dialogue in this show serves no purpose.
Edit: started reading the webcomic since it had to be somewhat good or Netflix wouldn’t want a show of it. Not so far yet, but it is way better. The thug guy actually talks and has a personality.
Edit edit: The webcomic has a way faster pace. Up till now, around the first time seeing the Macgyver guy, all characters have been interesting and the monsters aren’t limited by some CGI budget worth 50 moldy bread coupons. If you think that the series was disappointing to say the least, I recommend trying out the webcomic instead.

  • @QueenSoap

I enjoyed the show. The actors were great, a lot of fantastic images, and the monsters are super cool. That being said, the filmmakers seem to have had very little concern for continuity. People would just be in a scene out of nowhere, they'd cut to stuff that didn't match the previous action, and more than once I was like "wait, what just happened?" The jarring jump cuts didn't seem purposeful, but more so that perhaps certain things weren't shot or maybe there was no budget for pick-ups and reshoots. All that being said, the show is entertaining and definitely worth a watch. Just don't get caught up on some of the hiccups, and embrace the over-the-top moments.

-They took a lot out of Sang Wook’s (the gangster) and Jisoo’s (bass player) characters, making them more like supportive characters. I felt they took a lot of Sang Wook’s heroic characteristics and gave them to Yi Kyung (the firefighter)
-I felt like the focus on Monster’s was completely gone by the end of the season. Like they just kind of vanished by the end. Versus in the comic, the apartment was being swarmed at the end. I know they’re deviating from the comic, but I felt that is was a drastic change.

In fact, wook (mob guy), jisu, and Hyun were the "3 best friend MCs" in the webtoon and...why did they remove that?? They replaced mob man in the plot line with the firefighter and it was just so disappointing since he was a LOT of peoples favorite character from the webtoon. And what about Maria game??? (Spoiler) it was literally Hyun's desire through the majority of the story until the end! It played a major role for his character as well as humor and it was how he connected to Hyuk (smart glasses guy). Also I'm not sure why they changed Wook so much? He was never a mon guy, everyone just called him that and he would correct them. It was supposed to be funny:/. He even already had a backstory in the webtoon (spoilers) connected with those 3 convicts. *sigh* I feel like they took the subtle parts of the webtoon that got people to love it in the first place and just removed them all

Also, while I enjoy the additions, the subtractions... Eh. Three big ones for me are the idol guy, Crew Crew, and Maria in the Sky. Crew Crew and Maria imo were really important regarding the relationships between Hyun and Jisu and Hyuk. And I just liked the idol guy (also known as the guy with a large face).

So...I had read the Webtoon since it had been released, since I also read the author's other Webtoon, Bastard. I went in expecting it to be an entirely different story with the same characters and world, and that's pretty much what I got. I watched the first episode with a friend, so it was actually pretty refreshing to be surprised with him when I thought I knew what was happening. I watched the rest alone. In the beginning, though rushed af, it actually kept pretty close to the original comic with some added scenes that differentiated it but didn't ruin it. That somewhat made me more open to the later split from the canon timeline. I really really hated how they portrayed the ex-cop and added the Firefighter lady seemingly only to take all of his best qualities away from him. But as I viewed the show as more of an alternate timeline, I didn't hate most of it. It didn't give you much of a chance to develop emotional connections to the characters, and those chances it did give you were entirely different from the Webtoon, save for the little sister having a crush on Hyun where they gave them more interaction so it kind of made more sense. If you go in having read the Webtoon, you already have an emotional connection to the characters, you will feel the emotional aspects they would have wanted you to. If you did not, you'll just think it's shit. So, basically what I'm saying, is make like a Homestuck and watch this as a doomed session timeline so that you might actually enjoy it. Also, I don't watch a lot of shows or movies with CGI, so I was actually genuinely impressed by how true to form the monsters were, especially the blind monster, some of the scenes with that were absolutely chilling.

And since its all in one building, they could’ve all died since there was barely any protection between them and the monsters upstairs.
And some of the cgi looked like claymation 🤦🏽‍♂️
And it’s annoying when characters fight for everything and it all goes to waste in the end.

The webtoon series is a complete masterpiece. When I heard that it was getting an actual series, I was a little disappointed that it was going to be live action, however I am impressed by what South Korea has done with the show and I'm only two episodes in. I still think the whole thing should've just been an anime with the same art style as the webtoon series.

I never read the manga but I thought the show was great. I totally agree they were self aware of the cheesiness at times but I definitely leaned into it and I'm glad I did because the characters were really interesting and lovable. I don't want to spoil the ending for people reading but I was crying from like episode 8 to maybe 15 minutes before the last episode ended and then that last 15 minutes I was just mad they stopped the season there.

I think this series would be good for perople who didnt read the webtoon, but for a person who read the webtoon, I felt a lil dissapointed with the lack of backstory and development of some of the characters. Especially when it came to the mosters and how they became that way. 😭

I am a fan of the webtoon and I like the live action, although I still find the WEBTOON more creepy. However, I’m glad they made the live action somewhat different from the WEBTOON because I want some suspense.

I kinda feel bad for that blob monster who saved the kid.
Spoiler alert: the blob is actually a kid in the manga who's innocent desire is just to pee. Coz he's just holding it in. Her mother hid him in the closet coz there's a monster outside.

Was it changed in the series, or am i referring to a different monster? I remember that in the WEBTOON, it was a kid who was playing Hide and Seek with his mom, but she ended up dying and he became a monster because he wanted to be found. He was the one asking Hyun if he could see him. I could be wrong though.

What was the significance of the mother with the stroller turning into a monster?
What was in the briefcase that was stolen?
Who was the slime monster that saved the kid?

Read the webtoon it's better. All monster have story why they become monster. The protein guy is actually always going to gym and wanted to have big muscles, the fast monster is actually an athlete wanted to be the best in running, the slime is a kid that wanted to hide from monsters. Many monsters are not yet in the show. I wish they appear. I like to see the guy that obsessed with his look actually hes character is in the show but didnt become a monster. When he become a monster he will be a giant face and ask people how did he look you need to answer hes handsome or else he will get angry and kill. Also the character that is sexually maniac is in the series but didnt get become a monster :(

You gave it way more thought than it deserved. Nothing pisses me off more than wasting airtime like this shit show does. NOBODY reacts to anything. They're dead, but even the dead have more animation. Plus, the firefighter was completely pointless. The CGI monsters were done terribly, esp. the monster without a face. Laughable. Whoever did this should be ashamed of themselves. I'm sorry for the manga fans who were screwed over.

Started watching and stopped after ep4. Can't watch the stupidity of it. There's a scene where this guy says he's gonna get out coz he thinks the monsters are gone but the very next scene he stops the woman from getting out to fetch her daughter. WTF!? Why would he do that when he too wants to get out. Then daughter got killed. And then as they scramble to close the gate the monster attacked and almost hit guy w/ glasses. The woman in hysterics screams and cries on the guy on the very same spot where the monster attacked. Cmon! Did the monster suddenly vanish, ignore or respect the noisy woman because she's grieving?
Then there's the firewoman who got caught by the monster. She escaped and a chase happen in the vents. You'll notice the openings are of the same size and so is the last where she kicked and went down. Why the f*ck didn't the monster follow her down when it can definitely fit.
This type of things ruin the whole experience. It's like watching Peninsula(train to busan part 2) all over again.
Conclusion: not recommended for logical viewers. Wait for an anime adaptation where it can do justice to the webtoon.
