Saw them play this live while on the "The Hell We Create Tour" with FFaK... Absolutely KILLER breakdown live! Was so hyped to finally hear we were getting new KoG!
KOG was completely off my radar before Passenger was released, but on first listen it instantly became one of my favorite albums of all time in the genre. The cohesiveness of the sounds on the album is insane, never knew I needed "synthwave-core" until I heard them doing it so brilliantly. I know other bands have incorporated synths in heavy music before and its nothing new, but KOG really hit something for me on Passenger that nothing else has yet. Its a bummer to hear Johnny is no longer in the band, but I think Dana (and the whole band) did a great job on this track and I am excited to hear more!
Dana used to sing a fair bit more on their Ground Culture album so I knew when Jonny announced he was leaving I knew it was in good hands. Dana's gotta be one of the most well-rounded vocalists in the scene now. Not easy to lose a singer like Jonny and keep the sound so similar to what was previously loved.
Another thing I like about Northlane’s discography in retrospect, is how each album evolves. Each new album switched up very slightly but still made sense. Discoveries was unrelentless wanderlust metalcore. Singularity was a bit more focused and tapped in. Still brutal. Node was a young Marcus dual vocal melodic masterpiece. Heavier than more people gave it credit for, a bit more groovy. Mesmer may be the most well rounded. Here they preview the cyberpunk metal sound they’d eventually delve more into (most notably on the song: Verdian) Alien marks the distinct introduction of cyber punk/ synth. “Alien” is the perfect title. Because the album is kinda weird/ kinda futuristic/ and overall different, kinda like an alien. Obsidian marks a landmark shift in sound to something I can only describe as a trademark sound. Much more synths. And they dropped the weird cyberpunk sound. More singing. Obsidian, despite being utterly different than Discoveries still reminds me of each other. Northlane still provides that higher level thinking conscience vibe.
As an early KOG listener, y’all need to understand, Dana did dual vocals on 3 full length albums. Over 30 songs. So when Jonny came aboard I was like “who tf is this”. To my surprise: he’d be the vocalist on the album that ironically garnered KOG the most fans.
For the question: I think Northlane has the best synth work out there very professional and clean also I've been watching jon's channel to see how he work with those synths and I'm so fascinated by his synth work vids his clockwork synth video is so satisfying to watch too
Northlane, Born of Osiris, and Kingdom of Giants for synths. Kingdom of Giants is so good live, seen them a couple times. Dana's energy and stage presence is so contagious. This tour with FFAK was one of my favorite shows over the last couple years. Everyone absolutely crushed it and the energy was 100 all night. Have fun!
Enjoy the concert Bogdan. Saw all of those guys in Chicago on Sunday. Kingdom of Giants sounded great. They need to give their sound guy a pay raise lol
it's wild how long these guys been in the scene, I remember listening to their Abominable EP back in like 2011. and their last album Passenger was super good
I'm going to answer with the lyric of the song I think has the best synths "I CLOSE MY EYES, AND CROSS MY FINGERS TRYING TO FIGHT OR FLY BUT STILL IT LINGERS LIKE I'M ONE STEP FROM THE EDGE, EDGE, EDGE, I'M ONLY STEP FROM ON THE EDGE OF LIFE" I do like Kingdom of Giants.
I think Dana still did most of the singing on Passenger. Been following these guys since their EP. They used to have a very different clean singer back then. Dana took over up until they brought on the bass player which did backing vocals. Anyway, I have loved everything this band has done. Passenger was on repeat for me for 1-2 years
I do like synths in metalcore, Imo northlane definitely uses it best. Can’t wait to see them this Sunday, it’s the band that fully got me into the metalcore genre
I think synths in metalcore are great if done tastefully. Idk if they really count as metalcore anymore, but if they do, Dayseeker is definitely on top of the synth game
I really dig the song. I was also a bit skeptical when I heard that Jonny left but Dana killed it in this track! I enjoyed his cleans a lot! As for Jonny, wish him the best and much success, and I still hope to see more collaborations between him and Alesti in the near future since I loved how he sounded in Smoke & Mirrors.
for QOTD: I fucking love synths in metalcore. Before I got into heavy metal, I was a huge edm fan (since I was addicted to geometry dash lmao). Personally, Northlane does it best for me. Just the overpowering synth ambiances in the background layered on top of crushing low guitars is just so fucking awesome on Alien. For Obsidian it creates a more groovy effect. About this song, it's cool but I was kinda hoping for a little more. I feel like the chorus would be better if the vocalist used less autotune and went with higher notes on the chorus and the breakdown feels like any other breakdown, but props to them for still making a cool song even when johnny left
My first listen of "Passenger" when it came out, I didn't appreciate it. I've been listening albums I didn't give the light of day from past years, and that album is fantastic. I'm happy we got some new stuff, great band.
Man.. Passanger is easily on of my fav CDs of all time. I remember I had just discovered that years currents CD I believe. I had 2 rando spotify songs come on by KoG from Passanger one of them being nightshift and I dropped Currents like a rock the entire rest of the year. I feel like they were going for an industrial vibe in this one. I liked it but it doesn't compare to the likes of Side Effect, Nightshift, and Burner from Passanger.
I do love me some synths in Metalcore. My first introduction to metalcore in general was via Princewhateverer here on YT and his style from 2015-2021 is still some of my fave electronicore. He’s def not for everyone (lol) but if you can look past the niche he’s a great songwriter.
I saw the tour and KOG 2 days ago and they were awesome. They have a new singer at least touring with them and he is great. Talked to their guitarist they really had to scramble and work hard to find a replacement last second for the tour. Sad he also said they are done playing anything All the Hell you’ve got to Spare or older.
KoG has been my introduction to Metalcore back in a day with their Ground Culture album. I've always loved their sound. But... I HATE excessive electronics in metal so i was veeeery worried about Passenger. Now... I LOVE atmosphere in metal so my worries ended up changing i to absolute passion about this album! Because of how atmospheric implementatipn of sinths were on Passenger. So i'm not worry about their future anymore and can't wait for new music! KoG 4ever! PS. Seams like this track is what Architects wanted to be but failed lol
I just found out after this video that Johnny Reeves is no longer in K.O.G. 🥴 He was the reason that I loved the Passenger album. Oh well! Still a good track! I just need to get readjusted. Lol
Yes and I’ll say a few bands The Devil Wears Prada We Came As Romans (especially when Kyle was still alive aka why I have Encoder in my username) and Bury Tomorrow
I loved KoG and Passenger, but this song felt really safe and generic compared to what they normally put out and didn’t really grab me at all. Hopefully the next single is better
I like that they released “No Faith No Space” as their first single last time and this time it’s “Wasted Space” I think they sound great without Jonny. Ground Culture was an amazing album and Dana did all of the vocals. Jonny didn’t come in until the last album.
Honestly ive been keeping up with kingdom of giants since the "every wave of sound" album and to me i think ground culture was their best album idk man passanger to me wasnt their best you should reeaaally check out their old stuff
Man I love Passenger so much, I saw your reaction to this album like 5 times lmao. And I'm happy that this song doesn't sound like a B-side off of it, yet you can still hear that KOG vibe. Dana did a really good job on this one as well. Good track
Love your channel, brotha! Thanks for doing what you do. -Truman (Drums KOG)
Truman!!!!!!!
Saw them play this live while on the "The Hell We Create Tour" with FFaK... Absolutely KILLER breakdown live! Was so hyped to finally hear we were getting new KoG!
Same I just saw them a couple days ago they were amazing!
AHHHHH i was going to see them but the concert was postponed and then we did go only alpha wolf, northlane, and ffak played.
@@joshdean6243 I saw them in Chicago!!!!
@@jaredvalleskey9888 Awesome!

Northlane is killing it for me, no one is at their level to put so much synth work while staying a good metalcore band
I completely agree. They have perfecty meshed guitar and synths into their own signature sound
Yeah was about to say the same thing, just legends
The newer stuff from Void of Vision is also great with Synths
Another thing I like about Northlane’s discography in retrospect, is how each album evolves.
Each new album switched up very slightly but still made sense.
Discoveries was unrelentless wanderlust metalcore.
Singularity was a bit more focused and tapped in. Still brutal.

Obsidian, despite being utterly different than Discoveries still reminds me of each other. Northlane still provides that higher level thinking conscience vibe.
Also, “Eclipse” and “Rift” on Alien, may be the worst back to back songs ever. These 2 songs may be the only time I’m like wtf Northlane LOL.
As an early KOG listener, y’all need to understand, Dana did dual vocals on 3 full length albums. Over 30 songs. So when Jonny came aboard I was like “who tf is this”.

New veil of maya gonna be crazy synth
Enjoy the concert Bogdan. Saw all of those guys in Chicago on Sunday. Kingdom of Giants sounded great. They need to give their sound guy a pay raise lol
Yes to synth! No one has done it like Sky Eats Airplane, but I do love how new bands have been incorporating it into their music.
it's wild how long these guys been in the scene, I remember listening to their Abominable EP back in like 2011. and their last album Passenger was super good
I saw them perform this song live in Anaheim on the THWC tour with FFAK , was a total vibe live
Seeing them tomorrow in Montreal, cant wait!
Just saw this live last weekend in Minneapolis on tour with fit for a king. It was incredible
Been a fan for years! They've upped their game while still sounding like KOG. Just awesome ❤️ that chorus is goosebumps!
Ever since Misstiq joined Earth Caller they've had some sick synths in their songs
I love the uniqueness of Passenger so much. So I have high expectation on the new single and this just hits so different. On repeat already!
Hell yea, the Kingdom is back baby!
Seeing them live tomorrow night with Alpha Wolf, FFAK and Northlane. Cant wait,
Man this song has grown on me with every consecutive listen. I wasn't too sure about it on my first listen, but now I'm really loving it
I'm going to answer with the lyric of the song I think has the best synths
"I CLOSE MY EYES, AND CROSS MY FINGERS TRYING TO FIGHT OR FLY BUT STILL IT LINGERS LIKE I'M ONE STEP FROM THE EDGE, EDGE, EDGE, I'M ONLY STEP FROM ON THE EDGE OF LIFE"

Dana did ALL vocals, screams and cleans on Ground Culture album so you’re right
I’m seeing them tonight too! Hopefully that storm isn’t as brutal as the breakdown😂
KOG is legit the best band I’ve ever seen live, if you haven’t seen them live they will knock your socks off
Absolutely dig the new sound, can't wait for more
Sick reaction! I’m going to the Massachusetts date next week for the Fit for a king show, so hyped to get destroyed in the mosh pit 🤣🤣
Seeing them for the first time tomorrow, can't wait! Last time they were supposed to be here in Mtl they couldnt pass canadian borders.
Passenger is always on repeat with me. That album is 10/10. Hope all is well with your show in Toronto!
The snow made my commute to Toronto impossible man. Such a bummer to miss out on an amazing lineup
It's truly a shame. Was a great show but my drive home was just hell lmao. The broken off driver side windshield wiper didn't help at all
Just want to mention that they have older stuff which is pretty heavy and worth to checkout
The work I came to know them by
Northlane was crazy!!!! On Clarity, his highs sound so pure!!!
Just saw them on the same tour you talked about
All 4 bands did awesome!
Yes. These guys killed it on Friday for us Canadians!
You gotta tell us how the clean vocals sounded live, especially with the older songs!
I still listen to Motif all the time.
I do like synths in metalcore, Imo northlane definitely uses it best. Can’t wait to see them this Sunday, it’s the band that fully got me into the metalcore genre
Super fucking cool song, I enjoyed that a lot. Seeing them on the 11th this month and couldn’t be more stoked man
Northlane are the best at synths and I think that's pretty non-negotiable!!
The Devil Wears Prada is still my go-to for synth metalcore.
I think synths in metalcore are great if done tastefully. Idk if they really count as metalcore anymore, but if they do, Dayseeker is definitely on top of the synth game
LMFAO Bogdan is trying so hard to like it 😂
i see the tour in tampa in 2 weeks. how was it?

I like Synths, but within metalcore, It's either Northlane or Kingdom of Giants.
Overall though, Starset is my favorite synth band.
I like synths in Metalcore if done well and "Passenger" was one of the best albums of 2020 helping me to get through this shithole of a year.
Void of Vision wins the hypothetical synth contest for me
I never expected to hear Dana sing but i really like it
Yes and I love Northlane’s and Born of Osiris’ synth work
Northlane really does some great synth work, but Kingdom Of Giants is also definetely in there
for QOTD: I fucking love synths in metalcore. Before I got into heavy metal, I was a huge edm fan (since I was addicted to geometry dash lmao). Personally, Northlane does it best for me. Synths in metalcore will always remind me of WCAR. RIP KYLE

Saw and met Metalbirb and Ohrionreacts at that show last night! Wish I could’ve met you☹️
Currents has some good synth parts
In my opinion, this song its a full sequel of passenger, gave me the same vibes with the synths and the chorus, really excited to hear the full album
Could've seen them with Crytal Lake in February 2022 but sadly it got cancelled.
Currents have been nothing but a blast to hear recently
so sad Jonny left the band, but i’m excited for what’s to come with them :)
Dana’s clean work on Ground Culture is some of my favorite stuff and i’m excited for what he can bring to the sound again!
I do love me some synths in Metalcore. My first introduction to metalcore in general was via Princewhateverer here on YT and his style from 2015-2021 is still some of my fave electronicore. He’s def not for everyone (lol) but if you can look past the niche he’s a great songwriter.
Synths in metalcore are great and nobody does it better than Born of Osiris.
Wait until you discover Northlane
There's atleast 10 bands I would mention before Born Of Osiris
Osiris overused it
That’s deathcore ish synthwave 😂
@@_nuclearnoodle_5757 Discover? Northlane is one of my top 10 bands.
I think Passengers is just an impossible album to surpass. Let’s go KOG 🤘🏼
I honestly disagree
Passenger great album
Ground Culture their BEST album and still one of my favorite albums of all time
@@matthewparravargas7949 That’s what’s awesome about great bands, we all connect with different timelines of them. 🤘🏼
They need to do a headliner tour
Im going to see them live today i wish they do this song
Easily one of the most underrated metalcore bands around.
Vocal cover when??
Northlane definitely has the best synths in metalcore for me
Kingdom of Giant doesn’t miss!

You should listen to Endure, Ground Culture and Afterglow from their Ground Culture album. Dana was already doing the clean vocals at that time

i love synths but i don’t know who does it best. probably born of osiris. their synthwork is very good.
Space may be wasted, but time to check this one out isn't!
I loved KoG and Passenger, but this song felt really safe and generic compared to what they normally put out and didn’t really grab me at all. Hopefully the next single is better

I miss their Ground Culture riffs, but I like this sound more than Passenger's one
its more deathcore but i think the browning does electronic and synth the best
Amazing song
React to Crown the Empire dogma
Cleans did not work for me.
really love synth. and yeah, i think KoG are the best at it
Seeing them next week Buffalo! ❤🔥
Sucks Jonnny’s gone
Synths sound like X-Files
Чистый вокал напоминает I, prevail
Answer to Synths in Metalcore: Yes
Northlane does it best
Void of Vision
KOG
Northlane wins the synth category for metalcore in my opinion.

Synths all the way and I would say Vola as an Example
Yes, probably dakseeker
