I used to live in Anchorage! Be prepared to spend more money on items as they will typically be more expensive. Also even though Alaska is known for snow, it will mostly be covered over with ice so be careful with that! You should definitely explore not only the city, but also the surrounding towns and try a reindeer dog while you’re at it!

1. 물가 개 비쌈..
특히 한식은 평균 끼니당 $20~$30 생각해야됨.. 식당서 먹음 +팁..
응 비싸니까 난 해먹으면됨..? 한인슈퍼마켓도 비쌈.. 라면 4개 넣고 $9.99 이거나 그 이상임...
인터넷 주문도 무료배송이 안되는게 너무 많음. (아마존도 점점 무료배송 가능 물품이 줄어드는중)
특히 큰 물건이나 무게가 많이 나가는건 배송비 따로 받거나 배보다 배꼽이 큰경우도 많음.
※장점은 전자제품 구입 할 때 세금 안내서 좋음.. 예를 들면 아이폰 사는데 999달러 이면.. 딱 999만 냄.
sales tax가 없어서...
2. 겨울에 집이 개 추움..
미국집들이 평균적으로 카펫을 깔고 히터가 한국과 같은 온돌도 아니고.. 따듯한 공기를 보일러가 만들어서 뿌리는 형식임...
그렇다보니 금방 식어서 금방 추워짐...
3. 차가 없으면 폭망
알래스카는 대중교통 폭망인 도시임.. 버스? 있긴한데.. 1~2시간 간격임.. 겨울엔 더 심함.. 차라리 공항에서 비행기타고 시애틀가는 비행기가 더 많을 정도임... 무조건 자동차 구매해야함.. 뭐... 학교 기숙사에서 난 절대로 안나갈거야 하면 할 말없움...
4. 요즘 날씨가 이상해짐...
원래 여름엔 해가 뜬 날이 더 많았는데.. 요즘엔 비가 많이오고... 여름 평균 온도가 섭씨 15도를 못넘음...
원래 여름에 반팔반바지 입는데... 지금 계속 긴팔 긴바지.. 추위 많이 타면... 잠바도 입고 댕기심...
5. 여름엔 모기... 겨울엔 눈....
여름엔 모기 겁나 많아서 좀 힘듬....
겨울엔 눈이 너무 와서... 걷는거 자체가 힘듬.. 눈을 치워도 도로만 치우고 또 도로를 치우면서 쌓인 눈은 모두 인도에 쌓아놔서... 사람들이 걸어갈수 있는 길이 없음..
6. 여름에 연어는 공짜..
알래스카는 자연산 연어.. 그중에서도 sockeye 라고 불리는 연어를 많이 잡음...
일반 주민들도 많이 잡아서... 아는 사람한테 한마리 달라고 하면 그냥 줌.. 달라고 안해도 주는 사람들도 종종 있음.
우리가 일반적으로 먹는 노르웨이 산 연어랑 좀 다른데.. 노르웨이산은 약간 기름지다면.. 이건 지방이 적고 담백함..
7. 로컬 맥주가 겁나 많음...
이동네는 브루어리가 좀 많아서... 사람들이 좋아함...
8. 미국 탑5에 들어가는 피자집 하나 있음...
moose's tooth 라고... 피자 하나는 맛있음...
근데 여름엔 로컬사람도 못먹음.. 관광객들이 많아서 길게는 2시간도 넘게 기다려야함...
9. 한국/다른 지역 가기 겁나 힘듬...
영상에서 말했듯이... 와이오밍? 아이오와? 우선 자차 있으면 차로 충분히 다른 주를 넘어갈수 있음...
그건 정말 좋은거임.. 앵커리지? 무조건 비행기임...
물론 육로로 갈수 있는데.. 시애틀까지만 안쉬고 달려야 3~4일(캐나다 벤쿠버-1일) 걸림..
그리고 한국갈때... 한국 직항이 없어서 무조건 시애틀로 가서 환승해야하는데... 항로상.. 왔던 길 다시가는거라...
시간 아까움..(한국갈때 편도 평균 18시간 소비)
10. 은근 범죄가 많음...
아주 자잘하게 범죄가 많음... 근데 경찰은 잡을 생각도 안함...
우선 생각나는것만 적어봄....

와 너무 도움되는 좋은 영상입니다. 저는 곧 미국으로 교환학생을 가야되는 상황이라 영어가 부족해서 급하게 이것저것 알아보다가
학원보다는 실전에서 써먹을 수 있는 연습이 필요할 것 같다보니 언어교환101 회화스터디 등록해서 주3회씩 다니고 있는데
확실히 외국인들이랑 실전에서 대화도 해보고 하니까 처음에는 어렵고 두려웠는데 환경이 이렇게 만들어지니 점점 늘어가는게 느껴지네요! 빨리 늘려서 영어 더 유창해지고 싶어요!

근데 미국 살면서도 알래스카는 정말 가볼일이 없어서 교환학생일때 가보는게 평생에 한번 갈 좋은 경험이 된다고 생각은 해요 ㅋㅋㅋ
As so many people say, Alaska is a place you don't usually think of in the US, but I'll say this. Being raised there for a few years and Being Tlingit (Native Alaskan), the Alaskan wildlife is absolutely beautiful. Your time there will be completely different from anything else you've experienced 100% guaranteed. First, the light there is always different depending on the time of year. For example, some days never have sunlight (or very little) and some days have 16+ hours of continuous sun depending on the seasons. Where I lived, wild berries grew abundantly, and were free for anyone to pick, a personal favorite of mine I'd recommend trying are Salmon Berries (named after their salmon colored body). There are some things you might want to buy to help regulate sleep cycles from personal experience though, such as Heavy wool window blinds/covers. Anyway, I'm so happy to hear you're going to try something new, extremely excited you chose my homeland for it too!

I'm born and raised from North Pole, Alaska, I really hope you enjoy your time here in AK!!! It's an experience you'll never forget. Although, you'll find its much more like Canada than America here. There is still a big patriotism with USA and AK flags hung almost everywhere you go.
If you have an adventurers spirit- I think you have to travel around the state as much as you can when you come; while our history museums are great, the nature sight seeing is unforgettable. seeing northern lights, hiking mountains, berry picking, visiting the ocean, fishing, skiing, seeing ice glaciers, try fresh fish like alaskan salmon & snow king crab, even see and eat reindeer and moose. drink glacier water. and learning about alaskan natives culture, to name some.
Anchorage is the biggest (in population) city in Alaska, with 300k people, and you can see the mountains from within the city. If you're a city girl, you won't get too homesick in anchorage, also there is lots of great korean restaurants there if you do. There isnt even one million people in all of Alaska, only 700k people in the whole state, much of AK is native/indigenous villages. Alaska is humongous and I truly believe my home is the most vast, diverse, and beautiful place in the world.
for an alaskan tip: meet as many native alaskans as you can, we have incredible stories and life-long lasting friendships,, and please stay safe as human-trafficking is very big in Anchorage so be sure to buy some self defense like pepper spray when you get here for just incase.
Congrats on getting into the exchange program and even though it's not your first choice- enjoy Alaska's natural beauty on your trip of a lifetime to many! 🌌🌲🫐🫎☃️🏔️🌆☀️

you're coming to America right as I"m leaving!! I can relate to how you're feeling, I got accepted to teach English through the JET program, I'm from somewhere that's super flat and far away from the ocean, so naturally I was placed in an area that's mountains everywhere and right on the ocean so I'm like??? how???? but as someone from "the middle of corn" I think Alaska is going to give you such a more unique experience than pretty much anywhere else in the US! from a vlogging/content creator standpoint it'll make you stand out so much more than cali or iowa, and hopefully it'll be fulfilling in your personal and academic lives as well!!

So I’m from California and I don’t know a lot about Alaska. But I get the impression that the state itself is pretty weird. It’s an American state, but it’s completely separate from the rest of the country. It’s not a very populated place because it’s a lot of land and the weather is bad. I’d say just be careful if you are going there. I can’t say I’ve heard a lot of great things about it.

Alaska is not bad, it’s very beautiful especially in the summer which you will get to experience for a bit. The coldest months are in November - February so you’ll be fine, don’t worry too much about it :)
Also, Moose’s Tooth has really good pizza so you should definitely give it a try when you get there
