In my case, I had 2 surfaces after copying the .model in the catpart. I joined them using Generative Surface Design workbench -> Join (with Check connectivity and Simplify result options (it reduced the number of "triangles" significantly). After that I used Part Design workbench -> Closed surface. Great tutorial. Thanks.

Every time i try saving it in the DMU workbench, CATIA dies on me...it starts loading like it's trying to open up the window to select where i want to save it but it just doesnt go anywhere and stops working! Anybody have a solution?

I found that out. When creating a new .model, CATIA is refering to one which already exists. Just get yourself an empty .model, save it to an accessible folder, and define that one as the V4 initial model in Tools-Options-compatibility-save as V4 data

I failed to convert it from the point to paste the model to the part, since it shows up the error message saying pasting is impossible

it's taking too long because you have a large number of triangles.
You can reduce that number by using MeshLab: decimating a model

Choose simplification model instead of offset model.
Try to copy/paste each polygon separately(in selections of hundreds,thousands)

Convert the surfaces into a solid using:
Module: Part Design / Toolbar: Surface-Based feature / Icon: Close Surface
