Thanks for sharing this video, which just popped into my youtube feed. In high school/college I had a 1972 Monte Carlo, and yes, the mulsanne blue paint but no vinyl top. It had the 350 2 bbl, 350 turbomatic transmission. One of my favorites because of the quality and style and also because of the memories.

Lots of scenarios can end up like that. Dad buys a new car at 70 but dies suddenly. Mom doesn't drive but can't bear to part with his stuff. She lives 25 more years. The kids aren't into cars. To them it's just a non-running car with boxes piled up on it. For many reasons the estate is not settled for another five years. Now it's a non-running 31 year old car with 1200 miles. Somehow our friend finds out about it and resurrects the car and puts 600 miles on it over 10-15 years. If you search them out and follow every lead for years, you can find one too. It is a super-sweet car!

I absolutely love those early Monte Carlo Chevys. I had a 69 Grand Prix SJ and it was a wonderful car and even though the body was like the GP I prefer the Pontiac mostly because of the styling, interior and it seemed sportier than the Chevy but both are beautiful. My favorite of thise type of cars is the 67 thru 70 Buick Riviera. I never owned one but had friends that did and we traveled to many places in those cars and I always wanted one and still do

This should be required viewing for all the uninformed idiots who say carbureted engines are hard to start, temperamental, and unreliable.
For the first 90 years or so of the auto industry , drove cars with carburetors and managed just fine. Do you really think little old ladies driving to bingo would tolerate a car that didn’t run smoothly? Or your preacher delivering his Sunday morning sermon stinking of hydrocarbons? Or your doctor doing an examination with grease under his fingernails? I seriously doubt it.

I sent you an email a few days ago about the Chrysler Lean Burn video you did.
Thanks for sharing this sweet vehicle.
PS....I was touched, in a word, by a recent video you did in which you shared your love of cars and wish to have been able to bond with your dad over them. Same here. I was born late to my parents so they were much older. My father loved antique cars and clocks and watches. I shared those interests and had hoped to spend more time with him pursuing those interests. He died when I was only 31 so I really didn't get to. I still think of him whenever I see a classic/ antique vehicle or time piece.

The last good year. SO nice. Those look almost MID-ENGINED!!! My Aunt Francis had a triple black one w/rally wheels.
The car she got after it rotted out was a '70-'71-ish Mercury...I think it was a Brougham or something. (Had skirts)
Kind of a very pale green maybe? Anyway, me and my family had ALL the cool boats too...I still do!
Are the engines actually set back further than normal or is it just the overhang is greater?

Had a 72 in forest green with black vinyl top. Turbo 400 on the back of a 402 4bbl. Stock was good for 16.5 mpg at 70. I added an MSD with the stock coil and improved that to 19+ at 75. Tall rear end 2.70 as I recall. I buried the 140 mph speedometer once while I was in North Dakota. Still had throttle left. I really miss that car. One of GM’s stellar performers !!

Personal Luxury Coupes are a favorite of mine. GM did up some fine Olds Cutlass, Buick Regal / Centurion, Pontiac Grand Prix, Cadillac Eldorado. Ford ones weren't quite as memorable - except for of course the king of em all - Lincoln Mark III. Chrysler Cordoba was really cool too. It's a pity everything today is a bloated and jacked up AMC Gremlin.

A great car. I had a 1970 Monte Carlo in probably the early 1980's and I loved it. Mine was in pretty fair shape, but obviously not as nice as yours. I think I paid $800 for it back then, and it had 70 or 80k+ miles on it, as I recall. White with a black interior. Your car reminds me so much of mine...the upholstery fabric, vinyl top and such. Your comment about the engine placement was apt; had to be the biggest hood/trunk length ratio in American history...I'd forgotten how long the radiator hoses were on these things! Mine was also a 350 c.i. 2 bbl., and you're very correct on how well they moved at speed. I gave a friend a ride and he became alarmed at how fast we were going as I merged onto the interstate. Great video.

Hi Adam. I really like that Monte Carlo, especially with the rare fender skirts. 1800 miles is insane! Quite the deep fan shroud on that too. I owned a '71 C20 3/4 T 2WD, Custom Deluxe w/350 and Turbo Hydromatic . Only had 68K miles and all original. Out of the dozens of cars that I have owned from the '70's, that was my favorite sounding vehicle. I could listen to that all day. Just a smooth, deep, mellow rumble but not loud, or "tinny" or obnoxious. I think my 2nd favorite was a '72 F250 Camper Special w/390 and C6. 70K original miles and factory exhaust. Also had a great sounding stock exhaust. Currently my favorite exhaust has nothing to do with my cars but it's on my '07 45' diesel pusher motorhome with a Turbo Diesel Cummins 525 HP. The slight pitch of the turbo combined with the deep diesel rattle....Gotta love that sound!!. As always, great video, love the car and the discussion!!

These cars started in 1970 and are really like Chevys version of a Cadillac Eldorado or Pontiacs Grand Prix is probably the closest of other GM brands to the Monte Carlo this is a nice example of the 1st generation but I'm not a fan of the rear fender skirts but like the 15 inch hubcaps with the flags crossing each other in the center on it probably my second favorite Chevy hubcap 1st is the 1963 Impala SS 14 inch hubcap with the red SS center both have timeless style in my opinion nice classic Chevy

My first daily driver was my grandfather’s 1972 Olds Cutlass sedan. He gave it to my dad after he reached the age where driving was no longer a safe activity for him. I drove it for the last couple of years I was in high school and then my brother drove it after I went away to college. “Rocket 350” V8 with a 2 barrel carb and no positive traction. While it was a shadow of the 350’s just a year or two earlier it still had torque for days. My dad never could figure out why only the right rear tires seemed to be worn out after about 7k miles. Hmm… It’s interesting to see and remember how many parts GM cars shared across the brands. The door levels inside and out, dashboard, etc in the Monte Carlos have a lot of common with the Cutlass of the same year.

On several occasions, you mentioned you do not have a problem with points and condenser distributors. I think it would be great if you gave a presentation on various types of distributors and through your knowledge and expertise single out the ones you think are less problematic and/or superior. Examples: HEI,
transistor ignition ball bearing distributor, dual point distributors and others. Thank you for for your anticipated positive response.

The orientation of the engine to the front grille is something I have always noticed about these cars - and I think it became even more exaggerated on the ‘73+ models…..😮
I bet GM mechanics cursed these things whenever they had to perform certain repairs on these cars just because of how much “air” they had to reach over just to reach the front of the engine block…..😂
