One request, would it be possible to roll the ingredient anyway even after you use a spell that lets you skip a step? I just think it would be interesting to see what would have happened had you not used it
I think it'll work well as the season goes on. Burned spell slots are permanent per season, so this potentially sets him up for some moments later on where he gets screwed by the dice and can't save himself because he burned all the slots for the one spell that would help. Plus, he uses all spells before he rolls rather than after the fact, which means there's inherently risk-reward involved. It worked out for him this time, but it doesn't always. There was a sandwich recently where he used the "toast bread" cantrip expecting to roll wet ingredients, and it bit him in the ass when he rolled all of the driest ingredients on the roll sheet.
IMO the format isn’t using dnd rules to make a sandwich, it’s relying on random dice rolls to make a sandwich. The spells serve to counteract randomness in favor of making consistently “better” sandwiches. The high of getting a good sandwich is made less interesting when it becomes increasingly difficult to get a truly unhinged one.

I like the taste of pineapple on pizza, just not the texture. I can see myself liking this sandwich.
Try using crushed pineapple instead. Having your pineapple pieces too big can make the pineapple overpower the other flavors, in my experience.

I think adding more DnD influence can open up more great sandwich possibilities and see it as the series' natural progression!
