Nice pole lathe design, good work. If you use longer hazel poles plus about one foot of bungee cord, vertically connected between the end of the string/starter cord and the loop where it meets the horizontal bungee, you'll get loads more rotations per foot press = longer cuts, longer shavings, more efficiency.
