You can use any commercially available leather grease. The expensive one from Brooks is absolutely not necessary. Brooks saddles must be broken in. This usually takes about 1000 kilometres. The saddle MUST NEVER be tightened with the front bolt, as this would unnecessarily prolong the process of the leather moulding itself to your butt. In addition, it will always be pulled out of its "personal shape". So it is counterproductive.
