Watching this again after 15 or 20 years. Vivek Oberoi is so good! Hadn't really noticed Vivek Oberoi back then. It's sad his career got derailed the way it did. He's a top-class actor, no doubt.
Too bad Bollywood stopped making these type of movies. Now they inject Americanized songs, nepotism stars without any talent and models as actresses. Bolly Movies don’t have a compelling plot at all anymore. Kaun 1999 was probably the last great psychological horror. Everything Indian related is drenched in corruption and power hierarchy. Sad country.
Ram gopal Varma seems to have made it while he was at the height of his genius. This spell bound movie is no less than a chamatkar and makes me think how crimes develop in a society of ours. In company, the dark nexus between criminals and politicians is shown so explicitly and underlined clearly. Performance wise Mohan Lal, my favourite actor - star has played his role in an undertone but his unspoken words speak a lot. Ajay Devgan and vivek oberoi have also delivered the best. The performances of manisha koirala and antara Mali and other supporting actors are quite up to the mark. This movie unfolds the Mumbai underworld in an interesting and fluent manner. Although the beginning of the movie is a little bit sluggish, things pick/ gear up after a misunderstanding worsens the situation completely. So, all in all, this is a must watch movie. The students of the craft of cinema making cannot but avoid it, especially those who are keen on crime movies
