I had the same initial dislike for this scent. A gal at the department store was telling me to try Amen > Sprayed my wrist and a couple of paper strips > I didn't like it at all. And then a few hours later I was on my computer at my desk and I was smelling something that was just plain heavenly . I couldn't figure out what it was and I realized I had set the paper test strips in a container on top of my desk. And now 7 years later it is still my daily scent. This is all I wear end of story. I spray it on every morning > Even if I'm staying home for the day. I LOVE it. Now it is just like a part of me. But yes > The initial spray can be quite strange. But I'm so used to it now. And about 20 minuets later it becomes amazing. And when the scent does wind down and start to fade away the patchouli notes shine through and linger but very lightly > I don't even think about buying any other cologne >
A*Men to me is quite an evocative fragrance. Picture european Christmas market on a brisk December day, crisp mint in the opening reminiscent of fresh snow, wafts of caramelized almonds, the chocolate, wafts of vanilla from a nearby crepes stand, cotton candy, honey nougat, mulled wine with red berries and an abundance of twinkling lights. A true comfort scent (I wear it only in winter, because that's when it comes to life). Thank you for the review, big thumbs up, as always!
This is my all-time favorite. I feel like such a champion when I wear it. My confidence is through the roof! No other fragrance has yet to make me feel like that. It's the one that made me a fragrance-lover And their newest one, Kryptomint is on dry-down, basically an A-Men you can wear in warmer weather. Thanks for this review.
The very first formulation is a brown gray colored juice- absolutely breathtaking ! Rich caramel candy apple opening with earthy sexiness after 20 minutes. I smelled this in 2001 and just bought a vintage 1998 in 2021- smelling it on my arm my god the nostalgia. Formulation 1 rivals the overhyped pure malt.
i saw once you said your bottle was finished and you didnt want to buy a new bottle coz you were enjoying something else at that moment.now you got the Amen again...nice :) its been a pleasure taking that journey with your channel and group man
This has the best Base Notes in cologne history. I can smell mainly vanilla for a good 6+ hrs. It is so heavenly. A few of my other favorites are Paco Rabanne XS, Lacoste 12 12 White, Dolce Gabbana Light Blue. They all last on me personally for a super long time. I did 7 sprays of Paco Rabanne XS and I could still smell it 9 hrs later after I woke up lol.
Great review as usual. Im pretty sure that most persons will fall in love with this cologne IF its given a chance. Like so many others I disliked it at first simply because I didnt give it a chance to develop on my skin and so I didnt experience the stages of development and in particular the scrumptious and uniquely pleasant dry down. I revisited it several years later, with, admittedly, a more trained nose, and a willingness to test it properly. Suffice to say...I fell in love with the scent in its entirety which has become far and away my most cherished fragrance of a large collection (including several of its flankers). Its complexity and performance is incomparable at its price point. An absolute masterpiece in perfumery and a timeless classic.
The opening is hideous, middle is sweet/dirty old man, dry down is addictive gourmand heaven which is the reason I bought one. Thanks for the reviews Steven, much appreciated. Good day Sir, happy new year.
Excellent take. This is my favorite Mugler, and my favorite gourmand scent in general. Happy I have an older bottle that should take me forever to get through!
I have both Cuba Prestige and A*Men, and honestly nothing beats the original. It smells especially good during a harsh winter. The scent I define it as Icy, then when you get inside it warms to a smooth vanilla
First of all Thank You for this review.I was very curious how the original A-Men smelled. I never in my life owned the original. I have 3 of the flankers. You convinced me to buy it. I know it's not strong as it once was. That first spray was whoooooa.. But after the dry down on my skin. Absolutely amazing can't wait for cooler weather. Thanks again...🤙🏾
I smelled a LOT of fragrances , every time I find myself missing this one ! It’s THE BEST fragrance ever created , so unique, so delicious! I think it’s perfect for clubbing ! every time I smell it , I smile
I am happy to see an updated review of this fragrance! It does smell good! Great job. I don't know about reformulations butI just bought the 100 ml refill bottle after 20 years and yes it last about 6 hours which is fine for me. Projects about 18 inches which is good for me. It is not really beast mode but I don't need that. People who don't know about the original formulation won't mind. Just a great smell that needs to be re applied after 5 hours or so. Also it is more versatile nowadays. You can wear it any season of the year.
I have pure malt that I got for Christmas. So far I'm loving it. I may get this one this week. Insert generic copy and paste reply. Thanks for watching and commenting! Lol
Buy it yall ‼️ it smells good I ain’t gone lie when you first spray it it smells like caramel and leather! But it changes into a sweet cookie/caramel smell within 5 minutes 😌
Foreverlux usually has the best prices of all the online fragrance discounters. They carry a lot of testers too but they’re go out of stock fast. I sign up for email notifications for when products get replenished and I do receive emails when products are back in-stock.
This and kouros , 💯 get compliments every time I spray and go out . I am NOT exaggerating !!! All the sweet , aqua crap out these days, you want to smell masculine beautiful .. guys get this ! Got the gold metallic refillable version … love it ! Kouros .., another one that’s been out for years .. musky giants these two
Late to the party on this but thanks to his review which I trust, I’m going to try some. One of the fragrances worth mentioning that gets little play and is a great winter scent is John Varvatos Dark Rebel Rider. If you enjoy leather in a smooth, refined presentation, you will like this one. It has an Olibanum (Frankincense) note that some find odd, but like the tar note in this one, it is faint, but it works somehow.
First time I met my husband. He was wearing this smells like cotton candy didn't know it was him couse his 10ft away. Love it this ever since bought him 2 of this in his b day and our anniversary. Again excellent review as always.!
I'm getting really into fragrances and I always end up on your videos! Many other reviewers get very egotistical but you are very likable! Just subscribed thank you for being so informative all the time
just wore it the other day from Macy's , magic of coffee chocolate patchouli masculine woody sexy must have its so unique compared to whats offered today a staple in any true collection!
Man, the "Grandaddy" of gourmands. And when I happen to wear A Men as of late, I ask myself, "This is a gourmand? Not sweet enuff!" It just seems so tame as of late. Of course here I am wearing PF's Aqua e Zucchero, an even sweeter juice! But A Men is a true classic. Great review, thanks!
Admittedly A*Men is no longer in my top 10 but it’s a legendary classic. Anytime it’s worn it’s given high praises by both sexes. Definitely a fall,winter/ evening scent. If complements make you uncomfortable STAY AWAY.
Love amen have been wearing it for many years I think they took the tar note out so it's not as "dirty"..Still quite potent compared to other designer fragrances...but pure Tonka is even stronger!!
Wow. Angel Men after all these years. Hahahaha. Brilliant, as always. Unfortunately the audio and the video doesn't sync for me. I don't know why. Just check if you face a similar problem. Once again, good job. Can't wait to get this one to start off the Angel Men collection
At 1:47, the *batch code of PD 15314* is visible. That's a batch date of Nov. 10, 2015. What's interesting is that it's the same batch coded bottle I purchased from Target dot com during their 2016 holiday sale. Target uses Perfume-Worldwide as their distributor (aka Scentmonkey). This gives a bit of creedence to my theory that many of the discounters are using the same 4 or 5 distributors. Some may not even actually have much stock and just have their distributor dropshp the bottles. Our bottles look the same with just the first two letters of the batch code on the top of the bottle (PD). I was hoping you showed the bottom of the rubber flask. I don't see the PD15314 batch code etched in mine. Earlier releases had two batch codes on the bottom of the box and a longer 7 digit code on the bottom of the bottle. Since my bottle had the Mugler Circle Club code on the inside which allowed me to sign up, I assumed the bottle was legit. By the way, Basenotes has the *tar* note listed as a middle note and not a top not: Top Notes Bergamot, Helonial, Lavender, Peppermint Heart Notes Coffee Bean, Tar, Patchouli Base notes Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Caramel, Chocolate, Musk Do you really find the top notes that sweet? My feeling is that anyone who loves the classics will love the opening of this as well as the changes whereas those who are used to the post 2000 fragrances won't be crazy about this. I'll post this to a recent video, too but have you considered sending a demo video to the local morning TV shows for the holidays as "the cologne guy" who recommends the perfect holiday gift scent for a loved one? I can see you as a regular holiday morning guest. Excellent review as usual but please start mentioning batch codes and dates!
When I was younger couldn't stand it but gave it another change 4-5 years later and I love it... also love the tar note everyone talks about! Love love love!! Surprised to see you hadn't reviewed this one yet!
Thanks for this! I am a massive perfume head and really detailed descriptions of scents do it for me. I like how you have also broken down how to tell if it's an original. Wanted to buy an A*Men flanker for someone.
I haven't tried this one in a long time. I am assuming they reformulated it since I last had my bottle.. Judging by the original formulation... THis still is my favorite in the line.. I used to wear one or two sprays and it would last me all day and not overpower.... that is what made it great as well... im happy to hear the performance isn't too bad, i heard from some people that they watered it down to shit... People have this silly notion that a fragrance being too strong is a bad thing.. Its never a bad thing.. U can always use less.. I never choked anyone out with A*men or lidge.. just that the bottles lasted me for years which isn't in anyone's interest who sells..
Funny thing is that the bottle you showcase thats empty at 1:00 is the bottle i purchased... i hadnt even got halfway through it before my friend broke it while testing it out. He accidently dropped it, i never required him to get me a new one.. it was whatever... and i havn't got to purchasing a new one.... but this one just makes me happy whenever i smell or wear it..... Its gorgeous and some perfumes you just wear for yourself... and not for others... even though others tend to love this on me aswell!
Also that bottle showcases how good the sprayer actually is with the rubber prevents from being showcased.. I own pure havane and i cut around the sprayer and the sprayer works wonders!
You mentioned that you put on Angel Men whenever you have a sweet tooth. I get the same feeling and start looking for the women's Angel line. Good to know I'm not the only one who does this.
I got this in 2010 from Australia still have a little bit left of it in 2021 after not using it for over 7 years it still smells the same and it smells sooo nice wish i could find some more of it but its not cheap :(
@@Redolessence- And you truly did. . I see your fragrance line loved a lot in the UK. . I myself am from Denmark, and have a lot of friends in UK, they praise your stuff a lot. You are very good Steven. I still say to this Day, you and Steve Carell are very look a like. Hehe
I tend to reach for the flankers more than the original, but respect is due to The Godfather of not only the flankers, but the gourmand fragrance. I for one love the tar note in this.
I used to love this, and still do to an extent, but one day I had quite the leakage come from the bottle. When you get a lot of this fragrance in your nose, it smells like Carmex! I can't smell this without thinking of that now :/
@@mind-of-neo oh wow didn't remember i made this comment. It's nearly 3 years later and i am now a Mugler superfan. I own 2 Bottles of A men and then kryptomint, pure havane and pure malt. A men is my most worn Fragrance this winter. Simply a masterpiece!
@@patrickbateman4541 Ha! Sorry i didnt even realize how old this comment was! Thats great that youve found frangrances you really love. I have never even heard of kryptomint, i gotta look into it
@@mind-of-neo Krypto is awesome but more so spring and summer. It's basically A men with the caramel note removed and an added cool mint/peppermint note. So you still get the Patchouli based Angel DNA 🙏🏻 Get your nose on it online asap, think it is truly limited edition.
I got a bottle of this from CVS and the perfume was green instead of blue! It was definitely the A*Men with the black rubber case and not Kryptomint. It was a blind buy so I don't know if it smells like A*Men lol. Anyone out there know anything about this?
Steve, I sampled the original amen today. Like you said the opening smells really really weird. Tell me did this fragrance smell the same when you used to wear it during high school?
I had the same initial dislike for this scent. A gal at the department store was telling me to try Amen > Sprayed my wrist and a couple of paper strips > I didn't like it at all. And about 20 minuets later it becomes amazing. And when the scent does wind down and start to fade away the patchouli notes shine through and linger but very lightly > I don't even think about buying any other cologne >
The original is unwearable

Review of a legend by a legend 😉
A*Men is awesome and so are it's flankers.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Redolessence where can ibuy pure malt creation online??
This is my all-time favorite. I feel like such a champion when I wear it. My confidence is through the roof! No other fragrance has yet to make me feel like that.

I just got a 20 year old bottle with green juice. I'm blown away this is absolutely wonderful one of my favorite designers I'm in love
That's awesome!
I've hated this fragrance for 4 years....Today I sprayed my sample and totally fell in love! great review btw.
Funny how that happens, huh? Thank you for watching!
That's how I feel about the old Azzaro Pour Homme and Wanted as well. But in reverse. Don't like them like I used to
i saw once you said your bottle was finished and you didnt want to buy a new bottle coz you were enjoying something else at that moment.now you got the Amen again...nice :) its been a pleasure taking that journey with your channel and group man
Thank you so much. The pleasure is all mine. It's great having support from people such as yourself.
always bro always...you are one of our Big inspirations, on the journey...always love your work, have a nice day
He said he was using Cuba Prestige instead. i get a more chocolate vibe from Cuba Prestige.
I have both A*Men and Pure Malt...i love the original more than Pure Malt. Great review thanks.

Richard Rico exactly. The dry down is very solid, when the opening is pretty bad.

I started a collection with Amen, since I watched your videos
That's awesome, John! Than you!
Redolessence does forever only sell legit fragrance 🤔
Yes. Everything they have is authentic. I have used them several times, and they have never steered me wrong!
Redolessence Try blending Pure havane with tobacco vanille it works well
You have the best fragrance channel keep it up❤
I'll try it! Thanks!
I'm getting really into fragrances and I always end up on your videos! Many other reviewers get very egotistical but you are very likable! Just subscribed thank you for being so informative all the time
+Dante Magica Thank you very much for the kind words! It means a lot!
Here's an idea: Can you do a "classics" series? Lets say about 10 of the most important modern fragrances (with comments on flankers of course)?
Or with a separate video on flankers, even better!
Great idea!
Redolessence Yeah! You should do that Steven! Kind of like, Le Male and other more iconic fragrances.
Well get to it before others do it! :) Your way of presentation is really suited for it.
I still got the refill flask from 1996, got a refill lastweek it reminds me of college days.😎
That's awesome!
donna karen Fuel for men for me was the game changer breaking away from the predictable cologne herd. i love "a-men" but dk fuel for men is the bomb.

that's awesome you mentioned how you obtained the bottle. Another example of why Steven is the best reviewer in the community, imho.
Thank you very much, Benjamin. That means a lot to me.
Now if only he would clearing show the batch codes like he did here @ 1:47 in every video and discuss them, he'd really be cooking with gas!
Man, the "Grandaddy" of gourmands. And when I happen to wear A Men as of late, I ask myself, "This is a gourmand? Not sweet enuff!" It just seems so tame as of late.

Professional and brilliant review of a "classic".. great thoughts as always , thank's Steven for what You do for the community! ;) Cheers from Italy
Thank you for watching and commenting!
If one is going with the original King of Mugler, one should get the metal flask. Like a boss.
Too bad I missed out on my chance to get it.
I smelled this today in the store and didn't buy it and regretted it all the way home. Now i'll go order it for a lot less :)
Yes! This one can be found online for a lot cheaper.
An icon of modern perfumery! LOVE IT!!!!! I'll wear it on my funeral....
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Leave me in your will. Just the good shit.
A*Men is a great great fragrance. I love it.
Great review!
I absolutely love the opening of this fragrance 🙌🙌 and this one is much lighter than Angel for "women"
Thanks for sharing!
Can't wait to get this one to start off the Angel Men collection
yeap, the audio is out of sync for me too.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Redolessence dude are seriously going copy and paste reply to everyone? Kinda comes off like you don't really care to talk to your subs.
I'm both an Angel and an Alien girl depending on the seasons. Angel being my cooler weather scent. I want my boyfriend to wear this lmao
Awesome!
Cool 😎
Suit it is painted into a photo. Gorgeous fit. Uber classy
Thanks for the review. Time-stamping is always appreciated!
Cool!
The opening is weird, but the dry down is amazing!
I really love the opening myself, then the dry down is really great as well. I have an an early 2013 version.

By the way, Basenotes has the *tar* note listed as a middle note and not a top not:
Top Notes
Bergamot, Helonial, Lavender, Peppermint
Heart Notes
Coffee Bean, Tar, Patchouli
Base notes
Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Caramel, Chocolate, Musk
Do you really find the top notes that sweet? My feeling is that anyone who loves the classics will love the opening of this as well as the changes whereas those who are used to the post 2000 fragrances won't be crazy about this.

I own the reformulated version too and I think 2 sprays on the neck are good even for office (But not for daily use). Thanks for the review!
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Why not good for daily use???
Really enjoyed your pronunciations, and your detail explanations of each note
It's an amazing juice... My favourite... Awesome review
I love it.
I just bought "Green Lover" by Lolita Lempicka and it is VERY similar to A*man from Mugler.

Alien Man is extremely unique and awesome!
Angel Men would be great when snuggling with your sweetness.
You are such a great fragrance reviewer Steven. You should consider starting your own cologne company!
Thank you, Abdul! That's very nice of you!
Hehe
I got a cheap Mugler Angel 50ml for 30$. I'm exited to smell it. I order it online and I'm still waiting.
Thanks for watching!
I tend to reach for the flankers more than the original, but respect is due to The Godfather of not only the flankers, but the gourmand fragrance. I for one love the tar note in this.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
my absolute fav iam wearing it right now all day lasting sweetness
Discovered this in selfridges, used to wear paul smith before, 2 years ago - now this is the only aftershave I use
nice!
I'm thinking about getting this now. Would you say
It's still relevant these days?
I used to love this, and still do to an extent, but one day I had quite the leakage come from the bottle. When you get a lot of this fragrance in your nose, it smells like Carmex! I can't smell this without thinking of that now :/
You are right , it's one of my favorite , so manly !!
I can't get enough of this one!
Nice review Steve. Yes the original is the best.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Cant wait to get my 5ml decant of this! I love gourmands. Is it OK for colder summer days/nights? Love your content.
I think thats up to you to decide, if you think its nice for those times then use it
@@mind-of-neo oh wow didn't remember i made this comment.
I have never even heard of kryptomint, i gotta look into it
@@patrickbateman4541 Kryptomint sounds amazing!! I gotta try itAa
Great Vid! What brad of watch are you wearing? Looks great!
+Bre Mill It's Kenneth Cole KC8044 Men's Quartz watch. Thank you for watching and for the kind words!
I love Thierry mugler I have all his fragrance except zest the is the only one I need and my collection but is not available
Wear them in good health!
Love this one along with pure malt , gonna give kryptomint a try tomorrow
Thank you for watching and commenting!

Thank you for watching and commenting!
you're soooo right, the first 20 minutes I hated it with that horrible tar smell, then an hour later I loved it!!!
Haha. Thanks for watching!
Great review but how does it compare to Play intense ?
Steve, I sampled the original amen today. Like you said the opening smells really really weird.
Tell me did this fragrance smell the same when you used to wear it during high school?
There a Top 10 Spring in the pipeline Steve?
Hey, George! Indeed there is!
Wooow best review Steve !!And best parfume !!😌😌Best compliments everr!!!Thanks Steve
Thank you for watching and commenting!
My favorite fragrance of all time!
Classic!
This definitely goes through transitions with layers
Yes, it does.
If you layer Angel men with bananna republics black walnut you will be pleasantly surprised
Valente Leanos I'll try that
How about some of the Demeter fragrances like Pipe Tobacco?
Awesome review Steven. I'm wear the 1st generation right now. :)
Thanks, Daniel!
Definitely a unique scent. I liked it when I smelled it at a store but not sure I'd wear it.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
A Men was the first fragrance I bought when I started on my fragrance journey :)
