Thank you, your video helped a lot! I accidentally sat on my glasses this morning, the fishing line tore and both lenses fell out. Thanks to your tutorial, we managed to fix them by ourselves!
Great Video! Excuse me for chiming in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Taparton Playing Hands Takeover (should be on google have a look)? It is a smashing one off product for naturally improving your eyesight without the normal expense. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend Sam finally got astronomical results with it.
Thank you, this was very helpful. The way you broke it down and actually showed passes close up was fantastic. Got the pair restrung and a happy patient. This was my first restring, thanks for helping make it successful.
Once you have the length of fishing line known, trim it before putting the lens in. And an easy way to set the length is to use the old piece of fishing line that broke. When I repaired my glasses, I got the fishing line at my local Walmart. No need to wait for shipping. Just wait in line at the store ;)
Fixing Furniture - you’re welcome. Knowing there are easy alternatives will help others. The video is a really good start to giving confidence to anybody who views it, that they can do this repair themselves.
I checked yours after looking at another RUclips video and the added part on yours is the monophilament line, replacement, however the trick is to use ribbon for the tool and work from inner to outer, so centre of glasses to outside. Excellent! DG New Forest U.K.
As a glasses wearer I have learned to simply have multiple pairs. Expensive, but just necessary. Furniture question - would love to see some fixing of drawers that don’t slide in and out of dressers. I know there are a bunch of different kinds but I have three dressers that needs help! Thanks for the great videos. All are very well done. Keep up the great work.
Glad to see you being brave enough to show yourself trying something outside your wheelhouse - and failing a couple times before you get it right! That's how I am using RUclips to learn new things. And I wear glasses, they are so darn EXPENSIVE.
Thanks for your thoughts on this video. It was an experiment on several different levels. Overall though, I hope it can help a few people that might be in a pinch right now. Thanks for subscribing to our channel! Scott
This why I always keep my last pair of glasses. I have them I my glove box so if my current glasses break while I am out, I can see well enough to drive home.
thanks for the video, just tried it and it worked. My filament line was still attached but my lens popped out when the glasses fell to the floor. I had dental floss close by so I used that to pull the monofilament line up onto the indented ridge on the bottom perimeter of the lens instead of the folded over blue tape.
My partner once broke his glasses' frame on Christmas Eve evening, so simple, thinks I. I'll use Super Glue! It fixed the frame okay, but I got some glue on the lense. I'll clean it off with acetone, thinks I!. The lenses were optical plastic, not glass so he spent all Christmas with a fogged-up lense. The policy is to have a spare pair of glasses.
I've continued working, including fixing glasses, but thankfully we were never closed down completely, just limiting hours and services for a short time.
wish I had seen this video a year ago. Tryed the fishing trea thing, but didn't knew about the tape helping pulling. eden up in a mess with some glue :P anyway, still use them as backup in the shop ! Great job ! Martin from Quebec, Canada
Thank you Martin. And thanks for sharing where you're from - I've been to Quebec many times and enjoyed being a tourist in Montreal last year. Cheers. Scott
Question please - i have new Tommy Hilfiger semi-rimless glasses and my question is - on glass is solid and withot any movement, but left is with a little movement - it is nylon solid or little movement to frame is optional?
Somebody get this man one of those bench top magnifiers with the ring light people use for small electronics. He needs to see what he’s doing if his glasses break again.
Oh, no! If your glasses are semi-frameless like mine, it wasn't too difficult to fix them. The hardest part for me was getting the 25 lb test fishing line. Let me know if you have any questions... if you live near Brooklin, ON, I'm happy to share my fishing line with you. Scott
@@FixingFurniture Thanks for the offer to supply the line, but my glasses came apart where the bridge is brazed to the frame. Luckily I kept my old glasses, using them. On the topic of furniture repair, it's a great therapeutic activity, provides a sense of achievement when successfully completed. Thanks for the videos, much appreciated.
Omg we have the same glasses! I have a question please, how to remove the lense on this frame? I am planning to clean the frame it has many dirt on the side..
Enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing your furniture knowledge. When you were talking about glasses not sliding on your nose, I thought about Navin Johnson and his Opti-Grap invention. :)
My titanium frames broke 4 days ago after 8 years of use and 2 pairs of lenses. My attempt to fix them with CA gel ended up with my finger and thumb stuck together and CA on the lens. A total write off. Luckily I have an older pair that gets me by sort of and my optometrist just reopened this week so I was able to get in and order a new pair, unfortunately it will be 2 to 3 weeks before I get them so in the meantime it’s the really old glasses and lots of squinting.
I've been called Martha Julia McIver because of all the things I have figured out how to do even before RUclips . Not trying to toot my own horn 🎺 but you have to learn to survive. I have taught my kids how to be McIvers' also and now they can't buy anything with out modifying it so it works again or it works better.
Beyond learning how to repair glasses, I also learned that some fixes take several tries and adjustments, all of which are part of the process. Now I think I have the courage to tackle my diy double door project.
Mooi gemaakt. Maybe if the fish line doesn’t hold it’s possible to solder a L shape upside down. But than again maybe that (soldering) wil mess up the integrity of the lens or the frame.🤔 Anyway good luck 👍

@@FixingFurniture Loved the Video! If you have access to your prescription always had luck with Zenni optical for backup glasses, always kept my pair from the optician as the primary pair but never could tell the difference between them and the ones I got from Zenni. (Then I got Lasik and was no longer an issue!)
Terrific job Scott. How you were able to do it without screaming, throwing the glasses on the floor and jumping on them, I really don't know.
Lol, that's funny. As a woodworker, patience is key to success, so I've had decades of training for this event! Scott
I think the hardest thing in fixing glasses - if you don't have a spare pair , and that is not being able to see what you are doing LOL
Lol, yeah that was a slight problem. My vision isn't horrible, but I certainly noticed not having my glasses on. Cheers. Scott
Thank you, your video helped a lot! I accidentally sat on my glasses this morning, the fishing line tore and both lenses fell out. Thanks to your tutorial, we managed to fix them by ourselves!
Thanks for sharing. Took me less than 5 minutes to fix. Thought I was going to have to spend a fortune on new glasses. You ROCK!
Glad it was helpful John! Cheers
Hi Scott, now you know how we feel when we watch your videos. Thanks for the kind words, hope you and your love-ones stay safe.
Lol, I guess you're right! Thanks for your kind comment. Scott

You're a life saver, thank you. I don't have the patience you do so I had to walk away a couple times. Not sure how one gets that patient.
Hope you got them fixed. Cheers. Scott

I've done this with long clothing tag barbs, the plastic bit that holds the tags on new clothes, I find a needle works better than tape

This was great. Nice to see the follow up and the learning experience.
Glad you enjoyed it!
My glasses broke off two days ago, but it was a job for CA glue.
Ah, so you understand the frustration of broken glasses too. Glad to hear you were able to fix them. Scott
So glad you were able to learn to repair your glasses. 😊
Thanks Troy for your comment and for being a subscriber. I appreciate the support! Scott
Thank you for this practical video specially in these times. God bless
You're welcome. I thought it was an experiment worth sharing. Stay safe. Scott
Thanks! BTW, you do know that YT gives you a timer as you watch the video, right? just saying.. Thanks for the help
Yes, the clock allowed me to show you I wasn't doing any editing tricks as I repaired these... keeping it honest
Cool, thanks for the help

I had my full frame glasses break right above the nose pad solder is holding it together it's not a beautiful repair but an effective one for sure.
Oh no! Well, I agree... at least it's holding together. Good work!

Somebody get this man one of those bench top magnifiers with the ring light people use for small electronics. He needs to see what he’s doing if his glasses break again.
When you're nearsighted that won't help.
Lol - Maybe as I age, I might need to get one of those for everyday use
OK, so I'm in the same boat, broke mine at the start of the quarantine. I feel your pain.

I used a thin piece of plastic card to get under the lens wire. Just use something thin enough

We’re those prescription glasses or Costco reading glasses? How long did the repair last?
These are prescription glasses and the repair is still holding up, over a year later. It's worked well. Scott
Thank you for showing this.
Great video - as you were repairing your own glasses it was done without super-vision!
Lol, nice Dad joke - love it! Scott

Nice one Scott,brian,uk,
Thanks 👍
What size fishing line ?
As I said in the video, this is 25 pound test. There's a link to it in the video description as well. Cheers. Scott
Brilliant fix, I have the same problem so huge thank you. ❤️😎👍🏼👏
But what do you gotta do if u don’t have that plastic thing around the glasses?
Well then, you wouldn’t have this particular kind of glasses failure at all. And you would just super glue or epoxy a broken frame.
@@mercoid thank you for the info
It took me almost as long as it did him. I finished like two minutes before he did :)
When I break my glasses I can fix them if I could see! It ends up me digging out old ones and getting out the magnifying glass
Great video, but ibsuggest you use a black stick instead of a screwdriver,👍
Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, a piece of wood is a safer way to go - good point! Scott
I used dental floss instead of tape. Thank you!
I fixed it in 10 seconds
Buy a spare pair of glasses online (ex Zenni). It will cost you only $40-50. I’m literally blind without glasses so I don’t take any chance anymore 🙂
I may just do that. Thanks for the tip! Scott
Need extra hands n a magnifying glass on a stand.... Nice job

Just measure the old piece first then go from there.
If I cut it short, I think it would have be hard to control. I would be wrong - not an expert at optical repairs. Scott
Blurry stuff? Maybe you got a catarac. No, that's impossible. I drive a Rincoln.
Just wearing glasses for 30 years, so hard to do without
Outrageous negligence to keep a spare, or 3?
