It definitely hit hard when John Candy passed away along with Chris Farley in 1997 and Robin Williams in 2014. When Raul Julia died in 1994 it was almost a double whammy losing Candy and Julia the same year they were both talented in some classic films before their deaths at ages 43 and 54. I am 37 years old and remember the legendary John Candy’s movies as a kid and still watch them if on tv like Planes Trains and Automobiles and Uncle Buck along with Home Alone.
I was one of the thousands who waited for hours in the streets of São Paulo, just to say goodbye to Senna. Those moments still bring tears to my eles, especially the moment when Senna 's cuffin passed by😞
Actor Lionel Stander who played Max on the hit series Hart to Hart (1979-1984) died November 30, 1994 at age 86. Actor Macdonald Carey who played family patriarch Dr. Tom Horton on day time soap opera Days of Our Lives died March 21, 1994 at age 81.
Someone I expected to see, but didn't, was Sorrell Booke (1930-1994). He was most notable for playing "Boss" Jefferson Davis Hogg on The Dukes of Hazzard. He also made appearances in other popular television shows like M*A*S*H and Hawaii Five-0. Some great talent was lost that year. Among my favorites is John Candy.
We also lost the Executive Producer of the Dukes of Hazzard in 1994 Paul Romeo Picard on October 3rd, 1994 from Pancreatic Cancer. He was born in 1930. Paul passed away in Italy.
Thanks for including Nicky Hopkins, he was the go-to pianist for recording sessions in London. One sad aspect of his career was that when he was offered a percentage of royalties for songs he played he declined and just took payment for the session he played on. A percentage would’ve guaranteed him a lifetime income
Time Waits For No One. Perfect piano. The dude was super talented. He probably made a ton of money teaching piano playing. Big money in that profession. You would be surprised at what one had to give up to learn playing piano. Hours upon hours of constant practicing! Sacrifices, at just about everything. It demands a lot of time to become adept at it. I worked part time at a store that had an acoustic guitar on display, and started to tune it up, and women who were working started running toward me. I was like, hey I would play, but I could get into serious trouble playing this instead of working. I was like, this is what Elvis had to deal with all the time! lol!
My dad passed away in '95 at the age 40, so very close to your situation. I'm now a few years older than my dad when he died and it messes with my perception of who he was was and who i am now.

Singer/songwriter/musician/music producer Dan Hartman also passed away in 1994. He played bass for Edgar Winter Group and also sang lead on their biggest hit "Free Ride". He also had a few successful solo hits during the late 1970's and into the mid 1980's. His biggest solo hit was "I Can Dream About You" which was featured in the 1984 film Streets Of Fire
One of the most diverse musical careers anyone has had. Dan Hartman was early 1970s rock star and singer with Edgar Winter Band, late 1970s disco singer, 1980s pop star and songwriter/producer with other artists and musicians. To die at just 43 years from a brain tumor is so sad. He was very unique indeed.
One of the most amazing careers anyone in music history ever had. Early 1970s rock singer, late 1970s disco star, 1980s pop star, songwriter and producer who also did background vocals with various artists. To pass on at age 43 was a huge shock. He was one of a kind.
In Italy we lost Paul Romeo Picard at age 64 on October 3rd, 1994. He was the Executive Producer of the Dukes of Hazzard television show. He passed away with Pancreatic Cancer. Paul was the son of Romeo Picard and Irene Mineau. He was my first cousin twice removed. My maternal grandmother was his first cousin and the daughter of Paul Romeo Picard's uncle Leonard Georges Picard. I never had the chance to meet Paul personally because my grandmother's family never had family reunions when I was growing up or even when my mother was growing up either. We only knew about Paul because my grandmother liked to brag about him when he was working on the television show back in the 80s.
As a 90s teenager, it's easy to say 'oh yeah, 15-20 years ago'. No. It was 30 years ago. What that does is re-frame in one's mind 2 things. What could have have been or What has been since. I'm only in my mid 40's and am already feeling that sense of time slipping away.... btw. Your videos are the best 'in memoriam' vids i have seen and I've watched a few!
What about Gilbert Roland? You do a great job. I lost 2 sons in 14 months. 44 and 46. Looking at your tributes helps to bring back good times we watched TV shows and movies together... thanks
....wish they would have included actor, director Fred Sadoff... May 6,1994.... he was in the Poseidon Adventure and many other films and television..... RIP
I'm glad someone mentioned Olan Soule. In addition to his appearances on The Andy Griffith Show, he originated the voice of Batman on the Superfriends series.
I believe Olan had one of the most prolific acting careers of all times. Thanks for the thousands of hours you’ve spent entertaining the English-speaking world!!!
You knew a bad year was coming just by Romero passing on the first day of the year. Cushing, Lancaster, Jackie, and the shockers, Simpson, and Candy. Telly was great on the Telly. So many beautiful souls lost that year.
And also gone 1994: Marv Throneberry 1962 New York Mets 1B called out in one game against the Cubs BECAUSE HE DID NOT TOUCH SECOND BASE ON A TRIPLE! (He and Casey Stengel were disqualified from the Cubs 11-3 win for disputing the call and Cubs "College Of Coaches" 1B coach later "Season Of Tragedy" 1966 Detroit Tigers manager Frank Skaff snitched Throneberry didn't even touch first base and was upheld!)
Ayrton Senna’s death was completely unexpected as he had at least a few more years in his racing career. So were the deaths of Kurt Cobain, Raul Julia, Dan Hartman and Jerry Rubin.
I always enjoyed watching burt lancaster act in movies, the way he talked, his strong presence. I also like that he was very athletic. He always gave me the impression that he was a just and compassionate human being from many of his roles, but then again that was his profession.
Raul Julia is arguably the best Puerto Rican actor who ever lived. We lost him way too prematurely and I wish he was still alive and acting today. It’s a shame that his last theatrical film was street fighter, but Christopher Lee once said that if an actor has to appear in a bad film, the trick is not to be bad in it. Raul Julia exemplified this in Street Fighter, as his performance was the best of the redeeming qualities.
You forgot about Jim Henson creator of The Muppets he virtually died the same day as Raul Julia Raul Julia starred in Romero as archbishop Romero who was assinstated by the army of EL Salvador and starred opposite Clint Eastwood and Charlie Sheen in The Rookie love Anthony Fed ex lol
Another loss from 1994: guitarist Danny Gatton, a truly talented musician whose life and career was cut short when he took his own life via gun on October 4, 1994. I saw a really good documentary about him not too long ago.
A fun fact about Cesar Romero. He always refused to shave his mustache regardless of what role he was in. So when he got the role of The Joker in Batman (1966-69) the make up was actually necessary.
Pat Buttram will always be remembered as The Sheriff of Notingham in Robin Hood (1973), Chief in The Fox and The Hound (1981), And Saloon old timer #3 in Back To The Future Part III (1990). George Peppard When The Moonlight Cat was 7. Class of 94, Why Say More?
Jerry Garcia died in 1995 at 53 sadly from a heart attack but had also dealt with diabetes after years of heavy smoking and drug addiction to cocaine and heroin. We did we did lose a lot of big names in 1994-1999
Cameron Mitchell was NOT in "High Noon". Thomas Mitchell was in the western classic, but the two were not related, and Thomas Mitchell was long dead by 1994. Get your facts straight!
Pat Buttram was great, he was the funniest actor on Green Acres. Kurt Cobain, a manic depressant married to a psychopath, now what can go wrong with that match made in heaven.
Close to 30 years later, and John Candy's death is still deeply felt. Comedy will never be the same without him.

John like Oliver Hardy was a great comic figure
Hard to even imagine him as a 73 year old.
No Macdonald Carey, star of Days of Our Lives who died March 21, 1994.

Ayrton Senna. A Formula 1 racing icon.

Not a icon.
The legend of legends. Still for me the GOAT. Theres a reason i call Senna "The Holy One"
Had he not passed on tragically, he would’ve been the all time leader in F1 Championship titles instead of Michael Schumacher in my humble opinion.
