Still, 3D models allow more fluid transition from one sprite to another, something 2D sprites could not effectively replicate. At best, 2D can only have just around 1 to 3 frames for transitions. If you plan to include Chronicles characters while wanting to stay consistent to the 19th century setting, I suggest them cross-examining a librarian regarding what books each characters borrowed. Soseki might fit the role due to his love of books....or Herlock for maximum chaos possible. But it is your work. Do whatever you want.
