Thanks for the amazing pics. The Typhoon is one heck of a beautiful aircraft. When i used to fly Tornados and flew in the loop (or roundabout as US aircrew call it ) I was always amazed at the number of diehard aircraft enthusiasts perched on the hilltops. Now I am retired and miss the flying but still my heart is up there in the GR4. Again fabulous shots and helpful for anyone wishing to join in. .

@@cristinamorenolamin3217 Oh wow that's amazing. I served for 12 years. Whilst I was only ground crew I managed to get a 30-minute flight in a Harrier. That's my claim to fame :)

Thanks so much, Gary. We're in the states and are planning our first out of country family trip this summer, and my daughter suggested the UK. Once I immediately realized that I'd be checking the loop off my bucket list, and your site has been instrumental in helping us plan. This will likely be the last chance in my lifetime to see it, and greatly appreciate what you've done in helping us get there to enjoy it!

What a fantastic video, and a fantastic presenter. This is something I really want to do (only found out about it about an hour ago!!) as a keen photographer, with about a year's experience but have had a lull in inspiration over the last 7 months since my Dad passed away. He got me into photography and I have inherited about 20 cameras. Last June he bought me a Lumix G3 which I love. I will be taking that and maybe a few others, just need a more suitable lens. This video has gotten me excited again, thank you and you have a new subscriber.

I am now 76 years of age and have been up and down the Mach Loop since I was a small boy. First of all this is a very helpful video without a shadow of a doubt as to how to take shots of military aircraft. . For those going if you treat the local people as you would expect people to treat you in your locality there will be problems. Yes as Gary says look after the sheep and the wildlife and leave no litter. If, and if my eyesight ops go well, I will go up CAD East.

Great video, well done Gary. Brought back many memories of working on the Tornado back in the 70's! I was in the management agency in Munich pushing paper and it is amazing that 44 years after first flight of Tornado it is still doing things like this. Not sure I'll ever get to the 'loop' as it's a long way from Aus so keep the stories coming. Clive Tudge.

Dear Gary! I just want to say thx for your efforts you put in this channel and your website. I am from Vienna/Austria and visited the Mach-Loop in April 2018 for the first time. I checked all your videos and all the location-insights on the hp and honestly they are totaly true and valid. You made it easy for me to plan my trip and have a great time with Tornados, Hawks and F-15's. Only one adition from my side: I recommend everybody to bring walking-sticks. When the wind blows strong they can help to prevent your belongings (f.e. the folding chair) to be blown away when you ram them deep into the ground. Once again Gary, thank you - you made my day! ;-)

@tectorama..only because they either stole it, or bought it off people that stole it. I believe that's called handling stolen goods, but as it seems there is little chance of getting our property back, I'll settle for reasonable access to national park land, obviously respecting the rights of landowners, and ensuring livestock are safe, and no damage is done, no litter left.

As someone with a huge interest in many types of photography I found your video fascinating and interesting. Like the way it was presented. It was very informative and that and your website guide covered all bases. I only found out about this loop when the video came up on youtube then again tonight. Maybe someday I'll go there. I live in Scotland. But perhaps there is also a place in Scotland like this too. I 'll never forget as a kid or teen standing on Uquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness. We suddenly heard this engine noise and from around the corner from the right to the left came this huge Hercules flying low above the river. As it passed I was in awe of what I was seeing it was so close. It was spectacular and something I'll never forget.

As a regular in the Loop I'd just like to say there is no animosity towards people coming there for the thrill of seeing Low Level flying. I have and always will answer questions and give advice freely to anyone who asks but the one thing I stress is to be prepared. Walking on the hills is not like walking around your town. The number of people I see with trainers or other unsuitable footwear...even flip flops...is unbelievable. Yes it's summer and it can be nice and warm at the base of the hill but even going slightly higher and the temperature and wind can become an issue. I realise MOST people use their common sense but it's the selfish and ignorant that are going to spoil the Loop for all. Easy things to remember will make it easier for all to continue to enjoy it...Don't block the layby at Cad West...lorries use it to let the traffic flow along the road...don't park on the road if the layby is full. Police are taking steps with those that do. Stay on the tracks/paths...don't climb over fences the farmers have put them there for a purpose. Take your litter home...you carried it up...take it down. Don't block other cars in...some people are not there all day. Close all gates after you...the number of times gates have been left open is unbelievable. Don't block gates...farmers need access at any time. Never ever fly drones in the Loop...it's a Military Low Flying Training Area...jets don't always come from the expected route...believe it or not there have been instances of idiots doing this ! Not difficult is it? Following the above means everybody can continue to enjoy the Loop.

I am an experienced hill walker and I’m well aware of how to dress. In any event that has nothing to do with my point. The point is that people hill walk to enjoy nature. I live near Cader Idris and I feel I should be able to enjoy my back yard without this startling “boom” as you put it. It is incredible arrogance to assume this kind of intrusion is acceptable

Hi gary, great video. Just want to add a commeut taking your litter home with you, its our responsibility to make sure the place is as you arrived, wherever you go. Not sure about others talking about elitism, ive always been led to believe the regulars up on Cad East/West are quite friendly and willing to advise on camera settings without prejudice. I look forward to my first trip up tjere with a camera soon, and thanks for the video..good stuff!

I will definitely mention the litter thing on my web page. Thanks for reminding me. All the people iv'e met at the Loop have been brilliant. Iv'e met some great guys. The regulars will offer great advice too. If you do want to go to Cad East, just be aware that if you're not there before 7am the car parking places will be gone.

Sounds to me a huge debt of gratitude is due to that farmer. People who can’t respect this gentlemen’s property and fencing could easily destroy this rare privilege. I would be one for setting up a donation bucket for the farmer and send him a letter of appreciation annually. It kind of like asking for hunting privileges here in the US on farmers and rancher properties. The interlopers ruin it for so others.

Slightly different here in terms of access to land in the UK because of public rights of way. However ,the point you make is an excellent one about respecting the countryside and peoples land and livestock. I was taught always close the gate behind you from a very early age and also domestic (not working) dogs and livestock don't mix.

An excellent, well put together video with good advice and delivered with enthusiasm. I'm not on Facebook or Twitter and the like so I don't know what people are getting upset about, could someone
enlighten me? It's not as if LFA7 is a secret, the RAF have been using it for donkeys years and people have been going there for years to photograph the aircraft, some people even used something called
35mm film! ( look it up on Wikipedia kids.) I myself have only been going for a couple of years and so far have managed a total of about 15 days. I've not met any really grumpy guys, or gals, most people
have been great to chat to and some really go out of their way to help. On a recent trip a complete stranger loaned me a 32 Gb card as I forgot my spare. We are all there for the same great hobby in
beautiful surroundings. So lets not get worked up about nothing. I saw nothing in the video to get upset about, the Loop has been 'advertised' before, not least on social media, and it will be again. The only thing I get upset about is when people don't respect the countryside, but that upsets me on all my travels anywhere. So if you've never been it's a great way to spend a day. But be warned, in my 15 or so days I've sat there all day and seen nothing on a couple of occasions. Nice views though and good banter. And once again, great video Gary.

    • @GaryGough
      @GaryGough  7 лет назад +1

Hi David, Very kind comments and thank you for taking time out write it. I'm flattered to think that some Facebook people presume my video will bring thousands of new photographers to the Loop. lol Like you said, I haven't divulged any new secrets for heavens sake. I found out about the car park at the back of Cad East myself from a Hotel Website. go figure!
Every time I go there I only meet nice people too. Going there is more about the crack. If you see some aircraft then it's a Brucy Bonus and we all know :)

Great advice Gary, I live about 5 miles from the loop in Friog on the coast, and get a lot of the jets coming down the Mawddach estuary. We get a great display as they go from sea level up and over the hills. If this was in the US, it would be located inside military airspace, nobody would be allowed to come within miles, there would be signs reading something like, "trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again!", and there would be CCTV security cameras blanketing every square inch for miles!!! I've checked, visit the new World Trade Center in Manhattan, and skydiving off my bucket list, it seems now that after the Grand Canyon, I'm gonna have to go to Europe! I'll have to decide if I wanna do that before or after Alaska...
