Sailplane Canopy V Seal

V-Seal is generally used on the inside of the vertical stabilizer to seal the rudder. This works well and is easy to install on both the right and left inside of the vertical stabilizer once the rudder is removed. With some trimming and great care, you can use V-Seal on the front and aft part of your canopy making your cockpit significantly quieter.

Coming in a bit late, but it might be interesting to do a before / after audio comparison in flight. I'd like to hear the difference the tape makes.

Wish it would work on the rear of an ASH-25 cockpit, the hinge at the back makes this more than a little tricky!

I'm curious about what you recommend around the front of a DB-800 canopy. It's very different than other canopy fronts.

I've sealed my std Cirrus canopy with Silicone (put cling film on the bottom fuselage so it doesn't stick), close the canopy and let it dry, then peel off the cling film next day and creates a brilliant seal. The problem I have now is that the canopy have been removed for my new instrument panel and doesn't go back exactly where the contours of the silicone are, so I'll do another sealing next week, plus I will put v-seal on the back of the canopy only. Personally, I think putting v-seal on the leading edge creates a lip that is possibly worse than the existing gap anyway.

How UV resistant is it? Do you think this is a yearly replacement, if so how hard is it to remove after it has been attached and out in the weather?

Expect to replace v-seal annually with other tape. No more difficult to remove residue than other tape.

Can you explain how its work glider wings. are you using motor stepper or cable wire ...?

Unfortunately, I couldn't get this to work. I have a V3M and installed the seal as demonstrated. After opening the canopy several times, the tape would always catch in the gap and curl which would permanently bend the tape and render it unusable. Furthermore, the canopy cover would distort the tape as well. I had to remove it before I could ever fly with it. Disappointed!

I'm thinking that an elastic style canopy cover will mess it up. Will it??

Yes, do not use a canopy cap ( wingsandwheels.com/canopy-cap.html ) with a canopy V-Seal.
