*IMPORTANT DISTINCTION* The dropouts at short range were only outdoors where there were no nearby walls. The range is significantly better indoors and outdoors when there are walls nearby to reflect the RF signal. Some people seem to be assuming that the outdoor test represents all situations. But fortunately, those reading this are now disabused of that faulty assumption. Love you guys!
No matter that I was an early purchaser and extensive user of the Wireless Go, I still awaited your review. Clear, detailed as always, and yes - love your screaming into the mic :) Also, love your background blue. After a lot of testing, I still have yet to get the thing to drop audio when outside and with bodies blocking line of site (during grappling, etc). I did experience a couple of drops, minimal, when outside and with the person transmitting at elevation (a mere 20' up and amid trees and stony borders). I shall do more and see if I can get it to crack. Just wanted to let you know I so appreciate your channel, your work, and your refined manner. Thank you.
Yeah, I noticed those immediate dropouts outside. Nothing for the signal to bounce off when your back was to the camera, with your body blocking the signal. Should have done another walk with it in the pocket or belt. If you never turned to place your entire body between the transmitter and receiver, it probably wouldn't have dropped at all, right up to about 70 meters outdoors. Great place to put it is top of the shoulder. It's so dang small that might actually be feasible, especially with any kind of coat on. Or clip it to a shoulder epaulette. Heck, you could even put it under a hat without any discomfort. Imagine trying that with a RØDELink.
@@RedBearAK So it needs the signal to bounce back from the walls..but how about a bigger room or hall or a theatre??? Where the walls are more away??? Does it work than??

Curtis, another of the things I like about your videos is the Summary image near the beginning which gives a clear overview. Helpful! And wow, the sound quality of the _Go_ is amazing! Thanks so much for this head-up! You have beautiful Utah mountains for your outdoor backdrop. Cheers,
Great review, (as always) taking us all to a point. That's what some other YTers are missing. Thank you for you work ! PS : wishing Rode release a dual-channel RX W-Go system... that would be any interviewer's dream (had to send back my Boya dual-channel RX kit, just crap !).
Hi Curtis, Excellent review as ever. The only video testing multiple Lavs through this system, well done! I hear RODE is going to fix the little furry accessory and hopefully make it better. BTW I have never seen you test the RODE Newshooter Kit, which I own and love. Much better transmitter than the Film Maker kit. Its XLR + Powered Lav locking connectors make it truly versatile. It also takes NP batteries. Gets me very good sound, even out of a cheap Chinese SM57 knock off I tested for LOLs. :D You ought to give it a look see. Keep them coming Sir.
This was the best review! Concise, to the point, and thorough all at once without drowning in tech terms. Do you have a suggestion for Yoga/fitness RUclipsrs recording on laptops? Thank you!
Hi Tanguera Feliz, Thanks! The RODE Wireless GO could do a nice job of that. You'll just need to also get the RODE SC7 adapter cable which will go into your Laptop's headset jack. Best wishes!
This was a fantastic review. The pace. The clarity. How easy it was to follow. The detailed information. The comparisons. The pros and cons. Just really wonderful. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
Dropped signal. That's bad. I don't want to worry about losing signal while I'm shooting videos. Who uses wireless mic for short distance? I expected this product a lot. Little disappointed. 🤔 Always thanks for your reviewing products. This is my first comment since I subscribed your channel couple of years ago. From South Korea. 😃 You are my favorite mic channel.
That seems consistent, making it useless unless you can wear it in the front of your clothing, but hiding it on ones back would be tricky at best and from a reliability standpoint, useless.
Keep in mind that is outdoors. Indoors the range is much greater. But yes, if you're going to be shooting outdoors with the TX on the back of the talent, probably better to look at the RODELink system.
@@curtisjudd that's a big minus actually. People tend to turn and not just stand still when shooting. So it doesn't really matter if you put the TX in front or the back of the talent. This thing is going to thus be useless for a lot of shooting scenarios. I think this should have been stressed a lot more in the review tbh. To bad, I wanted to buy two of this but need to look at other solutions now...
@@curtisjudd I still think it should be more stable than 3 meters. I havn't seen it happening in other reviews though and it seemed like it dropped due to movement rather than standing still. Either way, thanks for the review

BEST REVIEW OUT OF SO MANY ONLINE! Thank you for not 'unboxing', what a HUGE waste of time that is. Why do people do it?? Simply state, as you did. ...This box contains... boom. done(I would put sooner though). You also put pros and cons at beginning which is great. Then you went through tests with little to no fluff. Great I would've added for newbs like me: 1) the windcover has soft foam circular cover that sits over mic that is meant to be there and is NOT to be pulled off..like I started to. 2) Rode symbol button on the transmitter only functions as on/off (i believe) not dual function how the reciever can also change display brightness length. You can figure out how it works with this vid as oppose to many others that want to tell you favorite features and exactly how to just get it going and what the not so intuitive design means. Thank you.
Great review! I love how Curtis manages to pack all the relevant information into one video while not overestimating/hyping some new gear just because it's new. Really appreciating his approach to things! I recently started a RUclips channel because I wanted to make something similar to Curtis channel for a german audience :D Not as easy at it looks, and a lot of hard work!
Thanks for the very comprehensive review of the RØDE WIRELESS GO. I always wait for your reviews before I buy any audio gear. I will be buying this one. Nice to see it is made in Australia.
I gave this a like right from the start with your nicely printed summary. It's almost enough by itself for a user to figure out if it's right for them and I wish more reviewers would do this sort of thing.
I just purchased the Rode today and connected it to my video camcorder to record live bands. The signal and sound are awesome. I can actually go into another room away from the transmitter and I never lose signal.
Thank you so much for these great info, i was considering this mic due to it size and flexibility since i had the Rodelink mic, but in all the reviews that i saw you the only one who talks about losing signal in outdoor!! i do must of my shooting outdoor so this was a deal breaker for me , i really appreciate the info..
excellent review curtis! many thx for doing the rf checks indoors/outdoors. im just about ready to release a bluetooth based repeater extender on ebay/amazon, but I didnt think that an a2dp bluetooth link would be that bad on RF range with the rode. proved me wrong. i will sort this out and add that option in just for this type of equipment!
thanks for the detailed review. That line of sight range is quite the dealbreaker even indoors, looks like i'll choose the Boya WM-6 in terms of price range. It has slightly shorter range (spec: 50 meters) but seems to handle obstacles a lot better, especially outdoors.
YES!! Thank you Curtis for doing this! I always look forward towards your reviews of new film equipment. I always feel confident when I purchase new gear with your reviews! I am definitely ordering one! How was the sound quality when combining the go wireless and the Rode Mic Pro Plus as a wireless shotgun mic?
As usual, a very thorough, practical and useful review. Many thanks, Curtis. The Rode Wireless GO looks to be the same technology as the Boss WL 20 guitar transmitter/receiver system (of course, there are some differences). The WL 20s also operate at 2.4 GHz, depend on line-of-sight for consistent transmission, and have built in batteries which cannot be replaced. I would expect that we will see this technology improving.
I spotted a Rode Video Micro connected to a Wireless go, being used by a BBC news team for a 'Social distancing' interview. The Video Micro was on a microphone stand in front of the subject, and plugged into the Wireless Go, it was the red curly cable that caught my eye.
If I could have wanted anything from the RODE it would have been the display. The RODE size and price is really good for sure and your reviews are always very helpful. Before the RODE was announced, I got the Sennheiser set with the XLR receiver and use it with the GH5 XLR adapter and it works flawlessly GH5 level adjust wise!! I could see getting the Sennheiser XLR Transmitter in order to use my Sennheiser boom mic wirelessly when I wanted. Keep up the good work.
Good review. I found that using a Rode Lavalier Go and mounting the Wireless Go on my side improved the range / reception, probably as line of site between transmitter and receiver is maintained to a degree.
Great review as always Curtis, I always come to you for audio even though I've watched lots of other videos on the Rode Wireless Go, your my last line of defense! Thanks!
This has been the near perfect solution for my Sony A6400 as it leaves much of the flip up screen visible with the receiver in the hot shoe. Don't need a cage of flash shoe extender.
It’s a valid point to be worried about the line of sight especially outdoors but I feel this product was designed more for vlogging, I will get this system to do quick and easy direct audio recording to the Osmo Pocket vs syncing audio with an H1n. Great review!
Looks like a great kit for creating solo content, not so much for client work and definitely not when you can't reshoot because of loss of connection. Perfect for RUclipsrs of all sizes.
Great video! This is the kind of review I was looking for. 16 minutes in and you answered my biggest question. How does the built in mic on the Wireless Go handle loud places like a convention floor. I'll be getting this for a convention in September and I was wondering if the audio will be usable in a loud environment. I shoot on a GH5 and I think I would prefer to take the signal from the receiver and go directly into my Zoom H6 as opposed to the GH5 itself. Rode's lav mic is pretty pricey. Do you think that is necessary or would I be fine with just the built in mic on the Wireless Go for a convention? Please let me know!
Hi Techno Dad. Good news: I have a sample of the mic on a convention center floor here: ruclips.net/video/0CqlFX07mNI/видео.html Ignore the handheld mic - we used that for backup but it turns out the the Wireless Go did really well so we just used the Wireless Go audio.
Dear Curtis, thank you for this informative Video. It helps me so much to make a Decision. I will stay with my Newshooter- and Fimmakerkit and add the Wireless Go to my Gear. Greetings from Germany
Excellent and thorough review, thanks man!. Seems like a handy little tool for a prosumer. Not my cup of tea due to the outdoor transmission issues, but pretty cool tech nonetheless.
This is the review I was waiting for. And for basic corporate talking head kind of gig you're right there next to them anyway. The clipping test gives me life! 😂
Usual quality review. Thanks for that. Couple of small comments. I find the Rode FilmMaker RX units frustrating to use in a sound bag, because the connector is on the side instead of on the top and this makes it awkward to have multiple units adjacent to each other. I also use the Sony UWP-D dual channel kit, which is similar to the new Deity product, but at 2x the price - however it can take a stereo wired mic input in addition to the 2 wireless channels, and performs really well. I have 2 Go kits on order for use in run and gun situations, when I can just clip a transmitter on the talent without messing about with Lav wires, etc. Lastly, if you use 2 Go kits you just need a Y cable that can take 2 inputs and feed them to the left and right input on a single TRS plug.
Hi, Curtis! Great review as usual. Thank you so much. I have an H4N Pro and I was wondering whether the Wireless Go would work as its lavalier mic system. I have an educational channel on RUclips and I shoot mostly talking head videos. When I shoot with a guest and since I use H4N's own mics, I have a hard adjusting the volume of my voice and that of a female guest. What if I got two Wireless Go systems, two XLR adapters into the H4N to have independent input control? Does that make sense? Thanks a million.
Curtis, thanks for another good review. I have had the Wireless Go for a few weeks now and I would like to add that in my experience when I've plugged in an external mic to the transmitter the system has very poor RF interference shielding. Many of my microphones, lavs and others generate a high pitch noise. Powered mics work a bit better. Still love the size and ease of use though,
Thanks for the info Peter, good to know! Which lavaliers are you using? I noticed that the self-noise was slightly more prominent with the external mics I tested, but I didn't notice a whine. Also curious, did you pick up digital RF sounds with the external mics? I did have that issue once with the RODELink but haven't noticed it with the GO yet. Could be a matter or time...
Curtis, I have a couple of Aspen Mics HQ-S lavaliers, inexpensive but quite good. I was really hoping to use the Wireless Go system with my Rode Video Micro too but the interference whine was awful even with a bit of cable between them. Curious what you find with more experience with the system.
I have a Giant Squid, and AUDIO TECHNICA MONO/STEREO SUBMINIATURE OMNIDIRECTIONAL MICROPHONE from Sound Professionals. But I just received a new one from them with a heavy duty RF shielded cable, and it works fine. But the older ones whine like heck. Thanks, Curtis! @@curtisjudd
Thanks Curtis, for another excellent review. What do I like about this? It’s simplicity of use. No digging deep into complicated menus. Excellent price. Mine should be arriving from B&H soon.
Sounds like it did fairly well being mounted in back of you when indoors. If it can maintain a signal with the talent turning around at 15 to 20 feet, that's all I need.
I just received the second replacement GO today via UPS. The first two Wireless GO units I received from RODE were defective. I haven't even opened the box yet. I asked RODE for a refund but they sent me another Wireless GO instead. I don't know if they repaired my second one or if it is a new one. I don't really care at this point and may toss the third one in the trash. I believe the RODE Wireless GO is cheaply made and quality control is severely lacking. I got suckered in by all the positive hype about the RODE Wireless GO system by the majority of RUclips channels that did reviews on it. I plan to buy a professional quality mic transmitter system in the near future. I wasted my money on the GO system. Good review Curtis. Thanks.
Hi Bob, sorry to hear about the bad experience. I agree that the Go isn’t really something to be relied upon for professional work, at least not without plenty of backups and even then, they wouldn’t be first string. Best wishes on moving up to a pro system.
During you range tests, it appears that with the Sanken lav mic, your signal was stronger than without. I’m guessing that the cable for the lav acts as a bit of an antenna to help with reception. Which makes sense because phones and the older radio Walkmans we used to carry around needed the earphones to help with signal strength.
Wow! Such an incredibly complete review. You are a master sir! 👍

The display is quite nice. A bit difficult to read in direct sunlight, but good otherwise.
Nice detailed review as always thanks. I got the same results when testing mine.
👍🏻 Thanks for the info on results!
Thank you so much for the clear review. Well done 👍🏻
Thanks! 😀
Good review. I found that using a Rode Lavalier Go and mounting the Wireless Go on my side improved the range / reception, probably as line of site between transmitter and receiver is maintained to a degree.
That makes sense. Thanks for sharing!
Amazing! Best review on RUclips!
Thanks Walter!
Great review as always Curtis, I always come to you for audio even though I've watched lots of other videos on the Rode Wireless Go, your my last line of defense! Thanks!
Thanks Tony!
@@curtisjudd not just audio, lighting and other things as well!
It's the only review that actually tested the most important things, the transmission signal quality.
👍
This has been the near perfect solution for my Sony A6400 as it leaves much of the flip up screen visible with the receiver in the hot shoe. Don't need a cage of flash shoe extender.
Good to hear! Thanks for sharing!
It’s a valid point to be worried about the line of sight especially outdoors but I feel this product was designed more for vlogging, I will get this system to do quick and easy direct audio recording to the Osmo Pocket vs syncing audio with an H1n. Great review!
Thanks Tim. I hope it works well for you!
Looks like a great kit for creating solo content, not so much for client work and definitely not when you can't reshoot because of loss of connection.
Perfect for RUclipsrs of all sizes.
👍🏻
Great review as always ! Thank you sir for your help!
👍🏻
Superb! Learnt a lot from this review.

Good news: I have a sample of the mic on a convention center floor here: ruclips.net/video/0CqlFX07mNI/видео.html
Ignore the handheld mic - we used that for backup but it turns out the the Wireless Go did really well so we just used the Wireless Go audio.
Dear Curtis, thank you for this informative Video. It helps me so much to make a Decision. I will stay with my Newshooter- and Fimmakerkit and add the Wireless Go to my Gear. Greetings from Germany
Thank you Mediafactory-Claas!
great review as always. Thank you !
Thanks Roy!
Brilliant review. Thanks a lot.
Thanks Neil.
Your intro “summary” screen has told me all i need to know. Thanks for your time sir.
👍
marctronixx you are dismissed 👍🏼
Excellent and thorough review, thanks man!. Seems like a handy little tool for a prosumer. Not my cup of tea due to the outdoor transmission issues, but pretty cool tech nonetheless.
👍🏻
This is the review I was waiting for. And for basic corporate talking head kind of gig you're right there next to them anyway. The clipping test gives me life! 😂
😀
@@curtisjudd THIS IS A TEST... ONE TWO THREE!
About bloody time!
Haha! Well, we weren't the first, but hopefully more in-depth than most of the others. 😀
We are so excited to start using the wireless go with some better lav mics!
👍
Absolutely love them along the the rx0ii. If u look onkine they're both sold at out right now lol
Demand for GO.
Thanks and also thanks for the insights!
Definitely makes sense.
Curtis Judd Great! Thanks again. 👊
Still love the size and ease of use though,
I have the same problem with all my lavs.
Thanks Bob, which lavs are you using?

Excellent overview. Thanks.
Thanks Heathcliff.
top notch review. thank you very much.
Thanks Rolling Shutter!
Thanks Curtis, for another excellent review. What do I like about this? It’s simplicity of use. No digging deep into complicated menus. Excellent price. Mine should be arriving from B&H soon.
Thanks Roy. I hope the GO works well for you!
Sounds like it did fairly well being mounted in back of you when indoors. If it can maintain a signal with the talent turning around at 15 to 20 feet, that's all I need.
Indoors, definitely. Outdoors when you're not near any walls, it seems like the signal dissipates pretty quickly.
Hi Quality video, sound,and materials👍👍👍
Thanks!
Great review. Thanks!
Thanks George.
Thanks Jim, that's an interesting point.
