Did Isayama knew about the time travel before writing this chapter ? Cause it doesn't make sense for attack titan to have this power, only founding titan should be capable of this ???
@@AJ-2001 “the first chapter and episode of AOT was “to you, 2000 years from now”. Next episode is from you, 2000 years ago. It was also hinted in s3 when Kruger said you need to save mikasa and armin. It makes sense since the whole premise of the attack titan is to “keep marching forward”. This can also be seen as “… in time”. Also, theres a theory that since Eren got the founding and attack titans powers, he was able to send memories backwards to all previous attack titans. It wouldnt make sense to send it back to previous founding members since theyre all from the royal family and would try to stop him
Probably because he's lonely, he wanted a functional family all of his life, and eren was the last family he had. Probably saw this as his chance at life.
At this point in the story I really felt bad for Zeke. He was a lonely person all along, all he wanted was a functioning family and someone to care of. Zeke went through all the troubles to save his only family member, Eren, only to have his brotherly love betrayed. The only good thing happened to him is that he finally forgives his dad.
I like that the founding and attack titans are basically inversed. Those who inherit the founder are controlled by the king of the past and those who inherit the attack are controlled by eren in the future.
yeah so i guess you could say the founder holds 2/3 of the power to control things that happen in the present that being the past and present. paired with eren’s future seeing abilities would be the other 1/3 making it be the most OP titan lol
I didn’t think he was that bad of a father. After what happened with his sister I don’t blame his dad for what happened to him. Zeke is just an emo snowflake and I never liked him.
"Declaration of War" and "Memories of The Future" are the proofs that you don't need mind-blowing action sequences to be the GOAT ( AoT still has mind-blowing action scenes but you get the point), two guys sitting and talking and two guys walking around delivered PEAK STORYTELLING.
Ehhh attack on Titan hasn’t really have had mind blowing action in season 4 especially with Cgi titans . But those two episodes have clearly been my favorite
@@jesusblanco7657 aot season 4 has the best action in whole series , just watch assault episode full of great action , war hammer Titan episode, the first three episodes of season 4 part 2 . These are a lot of action dude . Where as in season three only few episodes has action like hero, perfect game . And two more . Yes season 1 has a lot more action but not that high quality
When Zeke started realizing he was wrong about Grisha and Eren was the one to say let’s see the next memory, I was like 👀 Eren is about to turn this shit upside down
Love how AOT went from "Humans vs Titans" to "Humans and Titans vs Titans" to "Humans vs Humans" to "Team let Eren meet Zeke vs Team Dont let Eren meet Zeke"
The writing is really something else.. thanks for these breakdowns they're extremely helpful especially for little missed details, man what a time to be alive huh?
"This is the story you started" They made this into one of the most horrifying scenes in all aot..eren manipulating grisha and making him go through with the plan..grisha going insane in the mind also that silence throughout this entire reveal was haunting..I'm thoroughly satisfied with the result mappa gave us.. Legendary episode indeed
I agree with you , but there were people that complained about no ost when eren talked to grisha , i think the silence was perfect choice for that scene
It's ironic how future Eren is what past Grisha always want but didn't have. An Eldian restorationist, maybe a bit too radical but still in the line. This is what he want from Zeke when he's still in Marley. In the other hand Zeke is the kid new Grisha want. It's like fate messing with him by saying "you always this kind of kid, right? Here now you have it."
@@ReigoVassal nah I have to disagree, Eren isn’t really into Eldia, nor its Restauration. Eren himself said it, that he’s free and that he will do anything to protect his freedom. His freedom isn’t Eldia tho, it’s his perception of a “free world”, the means to achieve that, and the people that he loves and cherishes. Eldia is just a convenient excuse to use in order to have the manpower needed to execute his plans. It’s a neat deceptions that his friends, but funnily enough even the audience of the show falls for.
grisha probably realized the future attack titan holder whose memories he was seeing was actually eren when eren told him "what are you doing? stand up dad" because until that moment grisha never heard or saw the guy who was the future attack titan. he only saw future holder's memories. But when he heard 'dad' that must have been the time he realized it was eren all along.
No but when he was about to kill the royal family... He already knew who Mikasa and Armin were .. so he might have got an hint that eren might be the attack Titan
Zeke's slow response to acknowledge Grisha's embrace. You could feel all those years of hate and resent to his father disappear. This shit touched me as I could relate due to my own issues with my dad.
I hope u work it out with you father I made amends with my father before he passed away I was 18 , but finally understood everything he did for our family . Take care bro .
This episode explained a lot. It just kind of ties everything together. Hard to believe that Grisha was already dead in the first episode of season 1 but played such a big role.
I love the story writing. Even the detail that Eren let his father hug Zeke and apologize fully before breaking the chain hold and ending the memories.
I actually think THAT is what allowed Eren to break the chain and regain control in the first place. My theory is that Zeke was only able to break the vow renouncing war due to the power of his own conviction surpassing that of even king Fritz'. With Zeke re-embracing Grisha as his father, he sees that being born an eldian into this world isn't just needless suffering, so his determination to go through with the eldian euthanization plan wavers, reinstigating the vow renouncing war since Fritz' determination once again surpasses Zeke's, thus returning the power of the founder to Eren.
@@TheMike0088 the power never belonged to Eren and Zeke’s euthanization plan doesn’t conflict with the vow to renounce war, it aligns with it. What memories are even left - Griesha finds Eren and gets eaten immediately after that scene. The reality is that Griesha’s final wish snaps Zeke to attention and makes him realize the conflict he has actually been engaging in with Eren since he joined Zeke in the paths.
@@lemonmart7793 Not necessarily accurate. The vow renouncing war is essentially nothing else than Fritz' will being enforced onto royal eldians who inherit the founder, its not limited to "don't go to war with marley". I don't think complete eldian euthanization would be in line with what Zeke wants. Also, if not to defy the vow renouncing war, why would Zeke eveb need Eren (before they became "friends", that is)? He could have just plotted to eat Eren. But I don't think Fritz' brainwashing would have allowed him to go through with his plan that way.
@@TheMike0088 Remember there were 2 parts to Zeek's plan. The euthanization plan doesn't work without the 2nd part: the "sample/partial" Rumbling that Zeek needed Eren for in order crush the global alliance military so they wouldn't attack for another 50 years+. That's why he needed Eren to be a key and work with him so they could work around the vow (the euthanization itself would probably be fine with the vow though). Otherwise, if he ate Eren and obtained the power normally, he would be bound by the Wall King's vow and once they were all euthanized, Zeek wouldn't be able to scare the world away from Paradis for long enough for the rest of Eldia to die of old age.
When Eren went up to Grisha and told him to fight. Oo that was exhilarating to see. Even though it seemed like that’s what was going to happen based on how Grisha was acting. Like he needed an extra push. But this episode made me really respect Eren. Because he really did stay true to himself. It’s true, he has always been like this since he was young. While I was waiting for season 4 to come out, I rewatched the previous seasons and during that time it became clear to me how Isayama portrayed Eren even from the start. It seemed likena clear foreshadow of what was to come. One of my favorite quotes from Eren is after he killed those men who kidnapped Mikasa. “I got rid of dangerous animals. They just happened to resemble humans.”
There is so much happening all at once... but if we ignore everything for a moment and just imagine the mental state that Eren has been in since he kissed Historia's hand... he saw what was going to happen. After the ceremony, he must have sat down and thought about anything and everything that he can do to avoid what was going to come, until he finally came to terms with the fact that he was destined to cause all of this... it's so crazy- not speaking about it, carrying so many memories, so many possibilities, so much confusion alone, all inside his head. If he looks like he has gone psycho, I mean, if I were to experience something like that I'd be brain-dead.
This episode had me trembling to the end! Simply just finding out Eren had control this whole time left me stunned and almost fearing Eren as a character.
watching the anime the end scene of a close shot of eren looking at zeke had me frozen in place and then the to be continued scene popped up and a child version of him next in the ending Akuma no ko made me absolutely scared and had to pause the episode. The mere thought of a glimpse of adult eren who knew everything and the next we see child eren with a knife symbolizing his nature. The manga captured the moments but the anime captured both moments and the emotions in motion I needed to sit down for 30 min. Holyy fuuck
This and the last episode are probably the best anime episodes of all time. You can’t see it coming and the subtle clues sprinkled in the story are all coming together to make this show one of the best ever
I feel like when Eren was pretending to be convinced so that they can leave the memories, I like to think that this is Eren's way of telling Zeke "Are you sure you want to continue? You will not like the truth you'll be given, Zeke."
One question: Can Eren use his AT power without royal blood? When not then it was needed that Zeke showed Eren Grisha‘s memories to use his AT power to manipulate everyone before including Grisha (AT holder).
Thanks for explaining how Grisha was able to interact with Eren and see himself by looking at the Attack Titan current memories while he was in the past. Pretty mindblowing and a lot of memory inception stuff
by far the beast titan seems to be the least useful out of all of them, at surface level that is. Its just a monkey with long arms. if you even try to imagine the beast titan fighting another titan fist to fist, youd quickly realize that the shifter of the beast titan would have to learn fist fighting all over again but with long ass arms, which is very impractical. That said, the beast titan has nothing else that is special to it, other than maybe decent climbing skills(?). i mean even earlier in season 4, ksaver talked about how the beast titan was historically the most useless, meaning only zeke's special powers made it viable in battle
@@xyouthe Beast Titan is not a monke. It's a beast. Different beasts. Forgot the logistics, but the Beast is not as simple as you think. Remember the opening where Zeke ran alongside different animals? Yeah
@@steelbear2063 it is a monkey. Each beast titan has a different animal; Mr Ksaver was a sheep. Also, the scouts call zeke a 'beast' titan because paradis is a cold temperate climate, which harbors no monkeys, therefore they couldnt possibly know what a monkey is. FUN FACT: Coffee also cannot be grown in paradis, so when Armin investigates Zeke, Bertolt and Reiner's abandoned campsite (where they brewed coffee) he finds a used mug, which he smells to determine what beverage that they were drinking. He never drank or smelled coffee, so he describes it as a nutty, bitter black liquid. This happens in season 3 part 2.
Its important to note that Grisha doesn't see Eren or even Zeke, the reason he is looking at their direction is because Eren is simultaneously sending his memories of him and his brother in the PATHS to Grisha, which is why he seems to know what Zeke looks like because Eren is behind him (notice how Eren is purposely positioning himself throughout the episode), glancing at his brother. It's also why Grisha can seemingly hear Eren's words at the chapel, as he is sending his memories of him glaring at Frieda and at his father while reminding him about the families and allies he has lost because of Marley.
@@shanaandshawn probably an artistic choice to make the scene more powerful. In reality Grisha is hugging nothing, he just sees himself in 3rd person through Eren’s eyes.

@@darwil3317 fr no one person is to blame. its sort of the moral of the story too. like eldia and the world was just tryna blame everything on the people of paradis when in reality both sides were wrong. u could argue one side could be more wrong than the other but still no one side can shoulder 100% of the blame

I have a theory, Eren was chosen and is being used by the original king because he said if Marley broke the truce he was going to release the rumbling. The king entrusted the Attack Titan if ever Paradis needed to defend itself. He entrusted the Attack Titan to set things in motion if there was ever a time it needed to happen. Especially to circumvent his oath of peace that the founding Titan seemed to be stuck on.
@@twixzzezlikestoedit1580 But more of a premonition since 1. Marley although intend to strike an infiltration, it still end up destroying A part of Eldia. 2. Eren was a victim of the cause and her mom died which was to footnote of all vengeance (Titan? 3. Grisha’s first wife dina eat Eren’s mom (coincidence)? 4. Death of Erwin forced Armin to be alive to witness Eren have change at the ocean 5. Paths and Memories
This is really interesting. King paradis does announce the rumbling, but he know he can’t do that due to his own oath so the task must be delegated to other party. But the rumbling needs founding power, so Attack Titan must be given an ability by the king to be able to retake founding power when the time is right.
Also I like your theory because let’s say if Attack Titan does indeed have these kind of power to see into the future from the very early days (before the oath), that means Eldian have strategic advantage over any war they fought because they can see the outcome. However in the oath case, since the cold war is going to be far spanning years, it is going to be a long game. So, the only titan capable of doing this is the Attack Titan. Also the Attack Titan must start from outside of Paradis in order to not have their memories erased (wether the king entrusted this responsibility or not to the AT).
Grisha hugging Zeke, is just Grisha hugging the air but seeing Zeke in his mind through another memory coming directly from Eren. Notice how they both have the same perspective in relation to Zeke, So even Grisha can see him standing in front of him just like Eren does.
I think its important to understand that Eren did NOT change the timeline. Grisha always stopped himself from killing the Reiss family and Eren from the future always pushed him to kill them anyway. This is what always happened. There is no version of that event where Grisha killed the royal family himself, he was always convinced by a future Eren to do it. Eren isn't changing the past, he is fulfilling what his future self in the past had already done.
@@D_.-00 literally, it’s weird how the future can impact the past. And there were many timelines, so maybe there was an original timeline where grisha didn’t kill them and left maybe? Or maybe Frieda tried to attack him and he ate her anyway?
@@D_.-00 The best way to explain this is to make 3 distinctions, Eren, hologram Grisha, and past Grisha. One thing to keep in mind is that hologram Grisha is just a manifestation of past Grisha and doesn’t exist. Another thing to remember is that the Attack Titans ability is it allows someone to see future memories of a next successor. Past Grisha can see Erens future memories, and if the Attack Titan hypothetically had a successor after Eren, Eren would hypothetically see the future memories of the next successor (afaik Eren doesn’t have a successor). Eren and Zeke didn’t go back in time, rather Zeke is showing Eren hologram Grisha. Now this leaves the question of how is Eren influencing the past if they didn’t go back in time. What Eren is doing is that he is taking advantage of the Attack Titans ability to allow Past Grisha to see into Erens memories. He is using this ability to talk to past Grisha. It is also through this that Grisha can see Zeke. He is not seeing Zeke through his eyes but rather through Erens memories and thus through his point of view. In the final scene where he hugs Zeke, Past Grisha is actually seeing through Eren’s memories both Zeke and Hologram Grisha. As far as past Grisha taking the founding Titan, Eren is taking advantage of the Attack Titans ability as a way to communicate with past Grisha. That’s the jist of it. Eren is seeing a hologram Grisha, hologram Grisha is simply a manifestation of everything past Grisha did, and Past Grisha can see Zeke and can receive messages and be convinced by Eren through the Attack Titans ability to show memories from future successors. As for how past Eren knew what was going to happen, he isn’t looking into the future like Dr Strange. He is looking into past memories of past Grisha. Because past Grisha has part memories of what older Eren will do in the future, younger Eren can access every memory that past Grisha had of older Eren.
@@idkmynametho8391 good explanation. this made me understand alot. bassically eren used zeke to show him the past through a hologram using the founders powers… so eren can use these hologram images to communicate with real grisha from the past using the holo gram grisha as erens visuals and point of view. he tricks grisha who would of otherwise never stole the founder. the reason i can think as to why grisha still continued to give young eren the needle after seeing his future is because if he doesnt zeke the only person who can stop eren might never make his way to paradise to confront the eldians in the first place. with out zeke future eren could prob create a path that takes zeke out the picture from the beginning or some shit lol speculating tho
With all that being said, this can also mean that Eren could have persuaded even other attack titans even before Grisha. So this means he could have manipulated Eren Kruger to give the attack titan to Grisha. This can even possibly predate all the way to the first attack titan. Since time functions differently in the paths realm, he could have spent all his time there manipulating every single attack titan so that it could end up in his hands eventually. I know that he would need to have the power of the founding titan to do so, but with the rumbling confirmed, it basically confirms that Eren also is given full access to the founders abilities. Thus allowing him to stay in the paths realm to send future memories to past attack titan users just so that it can all lead to this very moment. Meaning, that Eren could be the mastermind behind every thing since titans came about. Hence the intro "This is the story you started".
I had this same line of thought. If you read manga keep reading if not stop. We know that Eren is the last attack titan, meaning he could give memories to literally every owner the attack titan ever had, and nobody could give eren memories. What is the titan known for? Marching for freedom. If eren is the last attack titan, he very well could have given the memories to make people fight for freedom in every generation, making him the sole reason the attack titan is the way it is.
@@gyftedwon3209 Tbh never read the manga but im not the one to complain of spoilers lol. But what you're saying makes sense and only helps solidifies my thought process. @@DrDoggo-py5mo he said that's why we've all been led to this memory literally while talking about the attack titan, I don't even think it's a theory at this point i think its confirmed
Another point to add to the paradox is that if Grisha didn't give Eren the AT, then Eren wouldn't be able to send memories of saving Mikasa and Armin to the Owl, who plotted to save and give the AT to Grisha at the edge of Paradis.
Aot always kept everything fine until AT's ability revealed. Grisha literally could give his power to anyone but Eren and paradox would be created. And what next? That's it. Universe collapses. Its so weird. Aot have really comlicated storyline and it never had any plot holes. But now you telling me that everyone has to do what they have to do, because otherwise universe will die. @@bksher6463 The fact that Grisha is able to see Eren means he has already given it to him, thus he can sense him. @@susano-o Yeah, I agree that giving attack titan to Eren is the only smart option for Grisha. But still, lets just imagine that Grisha gave his power to someone else or kept till his death. He could have changed future and history. I dont agree about "Eren being the attack titan is set in stone and there is no way out of it for Grisha". Grisha has his own freedom and he can do whatever he want. So there is a possibility where Eren doesnt get attack titan. I'm trying to say that there is theoretical way, where everything goes wrong. And Grisha theoretically could have chosen that way. Also literally every AT shifter could have done something to prevent memories that Eren sent to them. Kruger could not give his power to Grisha, Grisha could not give his power to Eren, Grisha might not even find Carla to birth Eren. So many factors that could went wrong. I understand that there is only one timeline and what heppend that heppend and you cant change that, but there were real possibilities that could change everything.

I really appreciated the shift on perspective of Eren. While his rage against the titans is completely justified in earlier seasons (even his rage towards the people who left Eldians ignorant within the walls), his continued determined hatred really shows how dangerous and destructive he has been throughout the story. Of course Eren wouldn't change from simply witnessing the outside world for a few years.
Eren didn't change, only the plot in which we inserted him. He has always been a fighter for freedom, relentless in his pursuit. That's what eventually made him, now in the finale, the most understood and respected villain. Cheers
I think he is the humanized manifestation of war and hatred that has been going for thousands of years. He is just a reflection of what he has witnessed. Him being selfish and evil is actually feel so real and human. He has seen enough and now is resistive toward these emotions. He is just gonna the end the war and hate with war and hate.
For the last part of the video when you explained Grisha's reasons for giving his titan to Eren, the better explanation is that Grisha's actions were set in stone. As you said, the fact that Eren sent him memories means Eren gets the Attack Titan in the future. So Eren not getting the Attack Titan would be a paradox, and it can't be resolved by Grisha just fading away, that's not how it works. What's next, the Reiss family members will come back to life and the church will be restored? No, the better explanation is that the future is already set in stone, just as the past is. Meaning Eren *will* get the Attack Titan no matter what Grisha wants. If Grisha decides to give it to someone else, then that someone will end up being eaten by Eren. It's basically like what happens in Oedipus. Even if you know the future, taking actions to alter that future will simply result in those actions leading to the future you were trying to avoid. It's a closed, unalterable time loop.
Your explanation is just like the doctor strange episode of what if. You can say that Eren being the attack titan is an absolute point in time. Even if you do everything you can to make sure it doesn’t happen, it still ends up happening
Not if you kill Eren before he’s even born , then there’s no one to be able to end the story the way it will end unless someone is born with Erens same will and long for freedom. But even then, the attack Titan landing on someone with Erens type of need for freedom is there.
@@carlosbatista6711 The point is that once we know Eren is alive in the future, there is no "if". It's just a fact that he survives childhood, otherwise he would not be alive in the future.

@Sayed Ainul What I'm telling is a theory and what you are telling is also a theory. There's no solid proof for either. Also the theory he explained does not have a solid basis so don't say anything with certainty.
OHHOHOHOHO! you'll get a surprise at the end of the show. Trust me, Eren doesnt hate Mikasa LOL, he loves her more than anything in the world. You'll see why he turned her against him.
Does eren have free will if it’s never eren choice to motivate his dad to kill the royal family ? Essentially what happens is destined to happen and if things are predestined to happen a certain way the does the ppl it affects ever have the choice to change destiny? This kinda hurts my opinion on eren and his character now but the show is still amazing
@@zacharyfrye2694 i assume you haven’t read the manga. but to answer the question yes it means eren does not in fact have free will to make the choices he makes. it does affect the ppl and they would have no way to change what is destiny. to clear it up erens actions are by free will but his reasoning behind those actions are not by free will
@@zacharyfrye2694 things are only predestined to happen because eren chose to create the paradox himself. it was fully eren’s volition this entire time. he was always free and every decision he made he made in his own accord. nobody forced him to manipulate Grisha nor is there any evidence that Eren was afraid to do otherwise. in fact, it can honestly be argued that eren kissing historia’s hand was a good thing. without that, Marley would have likely attacked and destroyed Paradis. The only reason things went as they did is because future Eren (who is, still Eren) sent those memories to the past to prepare himself. Whether you consider future Eren instructing past Eren as a lack of free will is your opinion, but I think that it’s badass that Eren’s drive for freedom was so powerful he transcended time just to liberate his friends.
I feel like Zeke convinced himself that all the bad he's done was cause his dad brainwashed him. The confrontation with Eren convinced him that he had a choice and that all he did was all him
I would say a fourth possible explanation to the final question of why did Grisha still pass the titans to Eren would be that he didn’t have a choice since the future memories of eren having the titans are proof that it was bound to happen. Ironically Eren, the character that wanted more than anything to be free, might be tied to a predetermined future outlined in the future memories the holders see without a way to fight against it.
But the predetermined future is only so because Eren willed it. The fact that they all see future memories of Eren rather than an even later holder implies Eren is the last holder of the Attack Titan.
This explains how Eren is misunderstood among the viewers, even when he was simply accepting the fate because there ain't no possible way and that is what had to be done through time to time...
I have a different option-opinion than the three you have established in the end about why Grisha went on to pass Attack Titan to Eren anyways.. I think that after all those interaction and realizations Grisha made in the hideout of Rheiss family with Eren, he felt like his own son,Eren, had total control of his father's mind..Grisha felt a prisoner of his own son's will and because of the Attack Titan inside him, he had a strong impulse to literally get rid of his Titan, so that he can feel free from his son. Just like an Attack titan would do everything to pursue freedom...
@@whatjusthappened77 or simply the attack titan understands that eren is the only host who will help it achieve ultimate freedom so it makes grisha give it. Remember we dont look for sense and logic here. Rather instict and as few plot holes as possible 🤣
I love these so much. AOT is such a complex anime that my smooth lizard brain just can't comprehend half the time. I'm glad I can get a good analysis and breakdown with these videos
A lot of people were saying that Eren is 'picking and choosing' memories from paths to show to Grisha but I don't think that is what is happening. Obviously like the the narrator of this video is explaining, Eren did have some influence over what Grisha was seeing in this moment. But the fact that Grisha was seeing through Eren's eyes at these moments at all was not in Eren's control. I think that rather they were all fated to come together at this memory/memories. What is really happening here is the Attack Titan's power to transcend time (NOT Eren using the founding Titan's power to pick and choose memories to send to Grisha). For those who are confused about what I mean by this, here is my terrible explanation of what the narrator was saying in this video: Remember: Grisha said that the Attack Titan's power is that it is able to see into the memories of the future inheritors. An example of this could be when Kruger was experiencing the future memory of Grisha saying to Eren, "Mikasa's life, Armin's life, everyone's life depends on you being able to control this power", right before having Eren eat him. Kruger experienced that memory right before giving Grisha the Attack Titan and said to Grisha, "save Mikasa and Armin" even though at that time, neither Grisha nor Kruger knew who Mikasa and Armin are. Similarly, right before giving Eren the Attack Titan, Grisha has a similar experience. He sees through future Eren's eyes in this moment. The CRAZY thing is, the future memory of Eren that Grisha happened to see was this very moment itself, because in the future (aka this episode) Eren and Zeke decide to go through Grisha's memories and look back upon this moment. Why was it this exact moment that Grisha happened to see? Who tf knows lol. Why was it that Kruger saw Grisha saying 'Save Mikasa and Armin' from the future? I think the answer to both of these questions is that it is simply just fate. These are the memories they happened to see, no one was incepting them into their heads. So basically, Grisha is probably having a crazy out of body experience in this moment. He is looking through the eyes of future Eren, who happens to be looking at past Grisha through the power of the founding titan. So Grisha was seeing this present moment through Eren's eyes (and Eren is standing behind Grisha). So Grisha is basically seeing himself in the third-person as he talks to / hugs Zeke. One thing that is interesting to think about is how the f*** Eren must feel in this situation, or even how he felt at the end of season 3. When he kissed Historia's hand at the end of season 3, he glimpsed into Grisha's memories of this exact moment. That is why in this episode it flashes back to Eren kissing historia's hand. He kisses her hand, then re-lives these memories through Grisha's perspective. Remember the horrified face Eren has at the end of season 3 after kissing historia's hand? That is the same horrified look that Grisha had on his face when he was about to crush the children. So at the end of season 3, Eren experienced the same anguish his father felt on this day.... only to learn that the anguish was caused by none other than himself.... It must have been hard for Eren to deal with this. Think about the beginning of season 3, how disappointed Eren was to find out that his father crushed all those children. Then when he kissed Historia's hand, he realized that HE was the one who convinced his father to kill all those children and re-lived that experience through Grisha. I think this is the moment in the series where Eren "changed". And when I say "changed" I don't really mean he changed. I mean he realized that this future is completely inevitable; it is a conundrum, completely out of his control. From this moment on, Eren knew that sometime in the future, he would convince his dad to kill those children and push this story forward. From this moment he knew that he had to keep pushing forward. The future is the future. And when the future affects the past, it becomes certain that that future cannot be changed because if it was changed, the past would be changed too. From this moment on, he knew that things were going to go his way, which is why he was being so sketch in season 4 part 1 going along with Zeke's plan. Because he KNEW that Zeke's plan wasn't going to work as a result of this future-past-present bullshit.
@Sayed Ainul Yeah, I feel like if anything, it is Ymir who is controlling which memories are being seen by all these Attack Titan holders (Eren, Kruger, and Grisha). It has to be her who is truly in control here, letting this stuff happen. Why was it that Ymir decided to re-build Zeke's body at the beginning of S4P2? I think the answer to this question is that Ymir wanted all this stuff to happen, she wanted Eren and Zeke to touch so that this moment would occur.
Important to mention that when Grisha confronted the soldier simping for his wife he said to him that he had no idea how especial Eren was, what once was seen as a retry of Zeke now gain new context.
1) Eren regained his memory that he is the mastermind of inspiring previous attack titan holders against the founder’s will, happened when he kissed Historia’s hand 2) Grisha the only one who realized that seeing future memories in among attack titan holders isn’t just an ability but inspiration from the last holder who has privilege upon former attack titan holders 3) The attack titan ambition (opposing founder’s will and seeking freedom) was clear hint about Eren’s manipulation of attack titan holders 4) Eren’s doings might be justified as self defense against the founder’s and world’s will to annihilate Eldia people.
I love grishas story throughout aot. Especially through Keith shadis's eyes he's called a chosen one at first then when he compares himself to eren grisha says Keith is nothing like eren. At first this seeks like a slight on Keith but after this scene we know it's more of a complement. Keith you are nothing like this monster of a son I have
Let me just say that your breakdowns are freakin' amazing, I wait for them almost with the same restlessness as I wait for the weekly episode 10/10 episode 10/10 explanation
its also interesting to note that from grisha's perspective, given that eren and zeke have been dabbling in those simulated memories ever since eren's birth (his first memory), grisha has probably been under the assumption than both eren and zeke have been watching over him. To put into different words, grisha was haunted by eren and zeke for the remainder of his life, ever since eren was born. its nothing too important, but it gives a new perspective on what it was like for grisha throughout those years after eren's birth. Also, WIT actually made a very expectable mistake when adapting the first episode, since they show grisha looking directly at kid eren and carla when holding the basement key. In the manga, its hard to tell but after seeing this scene you can very well assume that grisha was not facing eren, since you get a profile shot of him. that said, there is no background in that scene (its just blank white) so its completely understandable that WIT could think of it as just a profile shot of grisha facing eren and carla
That’s a very interesting point, consolidating the reasons why he would have transmitted the founder titan to his son despite everything he saw from future Eren. He had probably been edging between sanity and madness for years and completely gave up on trying to discern his reality from Eren’s will. All these years he had this creepy presence over his shoulders festering him with Eren’s ideas. Him switching from saying “Eren will succeed” to “you must stop Eren” is the perfect illustration of his two personalities battling in this scene.
Episode by episode Eren is becoming more and more terrifying, through his actions, words, even facial expressions. He's becoming the complete opposite of the "vow renouncing war"
Honestly i really feel bad about Zeke and Eren’s relationship. The way Zeke is trying ti save Eren and become sort of like a Father Figure to his younger brother is cute, but for Eren to do all these things and just use him is sad. This episode was amazing because it also shows a bit about the time loop theory (which i think is true.). (Edit) Holy, never expected my comment to go a bit viral, this is my first comment that went a bit viral
I totally agree with your point of view - Eren's slogan "I keep moving forward" strongly captures the idea that as an Attack Titan, you are only as good as the version of of YOU that is farthest in the future. So every Attack Titan always stands at the crossroads of past and future and acts as an intermediary between 2 timelines ALL THE TIME. Wow, what a concept!!
I think after Grisha realized what Marley did, he honestly wanted everything from Eren's future memories to happen. I wish Eren showed that memory to Zeke.
Griesha *doesn’t* realize what Marley did. He cries to Eren wondering why he can’t know more - particularly about the initial Marleian invasion. He admits knowing what is to come much later - things even Zeke and Eren have not yet seen and only hopes and prays that it’s for the freedom of Eldia. He likely passes on the power for the same reason he killed those children when he clearly *didn’t* want to. He’s compelled by the path set before him - the story he started when he stepped beyond his own wall as a child.
Of course he does. Grisha cries just after the attack on the reiss. Once he goes back to find eren and pass him the titan, he KNOWS the wall was attacked and says to eren to avenge his mom. I believe this is the moment the OP was talking.
This is for FOR SURE the best plot of all film I have ever seen. Such an interesting story that was carefully planned to lead us to a great end to the series.
2:03 Do you realize that Grisha brought the pandemic to the island of Paradis? He’s the first outsider with bacteria/ virus that’s unknown to Paradis citizens so no one has knowledge or antibodies against the new disease except Grisha. The pandemic happened shortly after Grisha arrive and first appeared in the place where he lived.

This was one hell of an episode hype for the next episode and i guess in the next episode were going to see founding Ymir's backstory because we saw eldians riding horses and Ymir's founding Titan hype to see it
If you want some fun thoughts, rewatch the scene where The Owl talks to Grisha, it might not have been animated but Eren is manipulating Kruger at that time. (i think at least it would make a lot of sense)
With the attack titan's abilities, I wouldn't be surprised if Eren manipulated attack titan users before Eren Kruger so that it can all lead up to him inheriting it.
Last episode was a 10/10. This deserves more than 10/10. As a manga reader, they did this more than justice. Just some tips for anyone still 1confused. I don’t think these are spoilers, but I give a warning anyway…. Grisha, Kruger and every attack Titan holder before that have been working according to the memories sent by the future chad Eren. Eren sent his memories back in time to create the perfect environment for him to steal the founding titans power in the future and destroy the world. Remember, out of all the 9 titans, the attack Titan had always been in search of freedom, free from the founding titans control. Why do you think that is? Eren had been influencing them all. About Grish seeing Zeke at only certain times….. Grisha actually doesn’t see Eren or Zeke in HIS real time. No,Grisha sees them through the memories Eren sent him. In this case, the memory of Zeke and Eren traveling through Grishas memories, is the exact memory Eren had sent him. Notice that every time Grisha sees Zeke,Eren is standing right behind Grisha? In other words,Grish I seeing it through Erens perspective. And also when Eren told Grisha to slaughter the kids…he didn’t hear it in real-time. He has been given the memory where Chad Eren whispers that to Grisha. Aka,Grishas hearing a memory of Eren coaxing him to kill the kids. That in turn affect him in HIS real time. AND when Grisha shows the key to chad Eren ,he really doesn’t see him,but he has a general idea of where Eren is standing in the room, because of the memories he’d been given from the future(which are from Erens perspective). That’s why he doesn’t speak about how much Eren had grown, because he literally can’t see him. Only see himself through future Erens perspective, aka memories. Just GENIUS writing
Eren is the one who brainwashed his father … after Zeke changed his mind he realized how much of a basterd Eren is . I really appreciate the complexity in this story . It’s a lot to wrap your mind around
consider who is controlling eren, eren sees a fate and future that he cannot alter and that he realizes is simply not in his control, eren is just as much a slave to the will of ymir as these other characters are to eren's actions
@@CJ-ot5wp I disagree with the ideas eren is being controlled I don’t think any character from the series has any other control the the other characters don’t I believe that in this this universe things are not predetermined but happen because nothing else can happen for the universe can continue to exist and I think that any other possibility won’t happen Bc it cant/wouldn’t . Which is what makes the “future memories possible. I think that eren did exactly what he wanted to do the entire series and just accepted the sacrifices because as he said I would take others freedom before they take mine which is exactly what he did.
This one video from him just made the whole episode clear as day. I was so confused before but now, thanks to this great dude, I can watch the episode again and understand. Thank you sir. You’re a G
So in order to avoid any confusion regarding the time travel mechanics, I will break down what type of Time travel we're dealing with here. AOT operates by a particular type of time travel where it's almost impossible to change the past even if you somehow go back in time. And any change that you tried to cause was always meant to happen in the overall timeline. Here time is a fixed circle, not a stream. We may see Eren meddle in the past but that was always meant to happen. This calls into the question of the existence of free will in the world of Attack of Titan. The Attack Titan's ability is to receive the memories of its future inheritors. This was hinted when Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin towards the end of S3. Keep in mind, they can only view these memories but can't interact with them. So how was Eren able to meddle in the past? Well, he had 3 perfect conditions: 1. He had the ability of the Attack Titan 2. The ability of the Founding Titan 3. He was also in contact with someone with royal blood AKA Zeke. After Zeke tapped Eren's head, they were able to view Grisha's past memories with Eren using the power of the coordinate. They were freely able to view the past as if it were through a one way mirror. Now if Eren had any other Titan other than the Attack Titan, he would only be able to look. But since Attack Titan can see forward in time, Grisha can use this to see Eren's recollection of the same event that he's currently experiencing in real time. So this mean that whenever Grisha can see or hear Eren, he's actually recieving a brief future memory from Eren's POV where he can see out of his eyes and hear his words. That means he is seeing himself from a 3rd perspective. Then if he responds, his response is simply part of the memory that Eren/Zeke are viewing, allowing for a two way communication through time. Also Note that everytime, Grisha sees Zeke, Eren is always standing behind his dad. So whenever Grisha sees Zeke, it is from actually due to the memories from Eren's POV
Another reason why Grisha passed down the attack titan to Eren is that even though Grisha has seen the horrible futute, the rumbling, he didn’t know whether Eldians would be saved or not. He has been an Eldian restorationist and Destroying the whole world means saving Paradis and securing its existence rather than relying on other plans. So, he had to entrust Eren with the syringe and was also concerned about the world getting destroyed. Guess he had no other choice :'3
When does the ost release for this season? I absolutely need to know the title of the ost that plays just after grisha’s stabs his hand. That whole scene with his breakdown is PEAK AOT. This was easily the best episode this season even after last weeks!
Some things I noticed this episode. - We can see the vow to non-violence activate in Frieda. There was a slight musical key and glimmer in her eye before she tells Grisha she can’t go along with his plan - Eren’s speech to his father was the same one Kruger gave Griesha before he gave him the attack Titan, so who quoted who?
In the end of the video, you mention Grisha wanting to avoid a paradox, but doesn't one already exist? How could Eren have encouraged him to take the founding titan by using memories from his future if that future wouldn't have existed without him encouraging his father? One couldn't happen without the other and vise versa. BTW, I always look forward to your breakdowns because they really help me understand what I've watched without spoiling anything!
I believe the AOT universe is a determinate one. That meaning that there is one solid timeline where what happens happens regardless of perceived free will. Basically, think of it like this. Time moves down a line, and then Grisha gets memories from the future, causing him to act a certain way. Because what is going to happen is already decided, when time progresses to the moment in this episode, eren influences the past to keep the timeline whole. I hope that makes sense. Best comparison I can make is Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban. Specifically certain aspects of the whole movie, Harry getting hit with a rock, and him getting saved from the dementors. Later in the movie, they travel back in time, and basically carry out the same actions that they previously witnessed. In both examples, the main characters are bound by events that have yet to happen, and those events take place in the present, and later in the future.
In aot universe the future is set and no matter what it will happen the way it’s supposed to. Eren didn’t change the past, he always convinced grisha through memories to do it. We just didn’t know it until now
Eren isn't going back to help grisha, Grisha, is just seeing the future through erens eyes. It's grisha that is doing it not eren. Eren is just allowing his memories to be seen. It is hard to describe but hope that helps
I think there is basically multiple timelines which is why Eren is able to go back and change the past so much to his fitting I could go more in depth but I think that would go into manga spoilers but always tryhard did a few theories on it if you want to check it out for yourself
Did Eren even know before going into the memories of his dad that he could communicate with him? He seemed surprised that his Dad seemed to be seeing Zeke through his eyes. I don’t think Eren planned to trick Zeke and take over the memories. But at some point he had realized the power he now had.
@@papikaaash yeah same idk if that was the moment he influenced grisha and sent back memories or if he uses the founding titan power later to do more extensive 'brainwashing'
IMO, Eren knew that Zeke would show him memories of any Eldian in the past. This is Zeke (royal blood) + Founder abilities and not Attack Titan abilities. So, at this point, he knew he will manipulate his father but he don’t know yet how, because he don’t have any power to send message into the past. Then, in the scene when Eren saw Grisha’s photo, he sees that Grisha reacted. This made him realizes: 1. Grisha is currently seeing thru Eren’s eye. Eren is seeing a memory that already happened. 2. Eren can communicate with Grisha “as if” they are both side by side, precisely because Eren memories of seeing past memories is seen thru Grisha. 3. Ironically, this can only happen because Zeke traversed this past memories (Eren can’t do this), because Eren has to be in the memories simulation for his father to perceive the illusion that Eren is constantly from watching behind his back. If founder titan abilities doesn’t get involved, the connection only happens like the case with Eren Jaeger and Eren Kruger where Jaeger can communicate to Kruger because he is talking by himself, so Kruger as the receiving end doesn’t really know about the context.
In summary, I think this is the mistake from Zeke. Although Eren currently can’t control founding power, but since Zeke showed those memories anyway, Eren can influence his father action by sending the memories of what Eren currently seeing (memory simulation) into Grisha (Attack Titan exclusive abilities). Judging from these, I am guessing that the reason why only Attack Titan can send memories to the past is influenced in reverse (just like what happened so far). So the reason why Attack Titan can do that is probably a consequence of what will be happening in the next episode (some thing happens between Zeke, Eren, and probably Ymir).
from what I can tell eren generally knows this but he doesn't know it second by second if that makes sense. he knows his dad can sense his presence and whatnot, but it's still a little startling when it seems grisha has more lucidity in sensing them than he should. both zeke and eren get taken aback by this even though they're aware of the circumstances.
Wow I've seen like two other videos on this episode still having questions or concerns, but this video basically stomped all of em. All the confusing parts have been put to rest. Thank you for the amazing video... subscribed
@@KlaweKlapki yes but he cannot see all of the future memories. The future attack titan can send his specific memory's to older inheritors. Thats why grisha asks Eren why he don't show him everything

"I swear I will kill every last one of them". That was at the titans at the time, but truly it just was at whoever his enemies would come to be.
I’m not sure you’re really going to respect Eren later in the series though 😏😉

There is so much happening all at once... but if we ignore everything for a moment and just imagine the mental state that Eren has been in since he kissed Historia's hand... he saw what was going to happen. After the ceremony, he must have sat down and thought about anything and everything that he can do to avoid what was going to come, until he finally came to terms with the fact that he was destined to cause all of this... it's so crazy- not speaking about it, carrying so many memories, so many possibilities, so much confusion alone, all inside his head. If he looks like he has gone psycho, I mean, if I were to experience something like that I'd be brain-dead.
And this is all excluding the trauma he got from watching his mom get eaten alive, and the death of all his allies, and the betrayal... whoo.

No eren only saw him manupilating dad and some sights of rumbling nthng more .... He wasn't acting
Thanks for explaining how Grisha was able to interact with Eren and see himself by looking at the Attack Titan current memories while he was in the past. Pretty mindblowing and a lot of memory inception stuff
The attack titan. The one titan shifter we all thought was basic as hell but really had the most insane power
Majority of their powers are insane. Just depends on the user.
by far the beast titan seems to be the least useful out of all of them, at surface level that is.
@@xyouthe
Beast Titan is not a monke. It's a beast. Different beasts. Forgot the logistics, but the Beast is not as simple as you think. Remember the opening where Zeke ran alongside different animals? Yeah
@@steelbear2063 i agree...zeke's titan is the way it is cuz it is influenced by zeke's love of pitching a baseball

Good theory but unfortunately isn’t true
@@twixzzezlikestoedit1580 But more of a premonition since
1. Marley although intend to strike an infiltration, it still end up destroying A part of Eldia.
2. Eren was a victim of the cause and her mom died which was to footnote of all vengeance (Titan?
3. Grisha’s first wife dina eat Eren’s mom (coincidence)?
4. Death of Erwin forced Armin to be alive to witness Eren have change at the ocean
5. Paths and Memories
If only that were true

Yep. This episode was prettt easy to understand for me but if I hadn’t read manga or a bunch of RUclips videos prior I’d probably be loss
Thats such a paradox my brain cant take this
@@D_.-00 literally, it’s weird how the future can impact the past.
Well exactly it was my theory going in this season but the ending kinda ruins that.

@@susano-o Yeah, I agree that giving attack titan to Eren is the only smart option for Grisha. But still, lets just imagine that Grisha gave his power to someone else or kept till his death.

True lol, kinda like how we can't escape fate and we must face it .

I like this
I would say a fourth possible explanation to the final question of why did Grisha still pass the titans to Eren would be that he didn’t have a choice since the future memories of eren having the titans are proof that it was bound to happen. Ironically Eren, the character that wanted more than anything to be free, might be tied to a predetermined future outlined in the future memories the holders see without a way to fight against it.
OSU mobile Gameplay of AOT Theme Song s4 pt2 ruclips.net/video/s3MSkhTk4wM/видео.html

So he then gives Eren the power to manipulate Him? Doesn’t make sense.

For those who are confused about what I mean by this, here is my terrible explanation of what the narrator was saying in this video:
Remember: Grisha said that the Attack Titan's power is that it is able to see into the memories of the future inheritors.
Love it
@Sayed Ainul Yeah, I feel like if anything, it is Ymir who is controlling which memories are being seen by all these Attack Titan holders (Eren, Kruger, and Grisha).

1) Eren regained his memory that he is the mastermind of inspiring previous attack titan holders against the founder’s will, happened when he kissed Historia’s hand
2) Grisha the only one who realized that seeing future memories in among attack titan holders isn’t just an ability but inspiration from the last holder who has privilege upon former attack titan holders
3) The attack titan ambition (opposing founder’s will and seeking freedom) was clear hint about Eren’s manipulation of attack titan holders
4) Eren’s doings might be justified as self defense against the founder’s and world’s will to annihilate Eldia people.

I love grishas story throughout aot. Especially through Keith shadis's eyes he's called a chosen one at first then when he compares himself to eren grisha says Keith is nothing like eren. At first this seeks like a slight on Keith but after this scene we know it's more of a complement. Keith you are nothing like this monster of a son I have
Should have given the attack titan to keith lol
Grisha is just like "dude, Eren is the one making me do this"
Let me just say that your breakdowns are freakin' amazing, I wait for them almost with the same restlessness as I wait for the weekly episode
10/10 episode
10/10 explanation
This is the greatest piece of fiction or any story in all of history i don't think anything will come close for a long time. A true masterpiece .
its also interesting to note that from grisha's perspective, given that eren and zeke have been dabbling in those simulated memories ever since eren's birth (his first memory), grisha has probably been under the assumption than both eren and zeke have been watching over him.
I mean, the memories were very likely only triggered for the first time when we see it. ( the scene where he sees zeke)
Episode by episode Eren is becoming more and more terrifying, through his actions, words, even facial expressions. He's becoming the complete opposite of the "vow renouncing war"
I think that's the entire point.
By far your are the best breakdown/analysis channel for attack on titan
Honestly i really feel bad about Zeke and Eren’s relationship. The way Zeke is trying ti save Eren and become sort of like a Father Figure to his younger brother is cute, but for Eren to do all these things and just use him is sad. This episode was amazing because it also shows a bit about the time loop theory (which i think is true.). You’re actually the best anime breakdown person I’ve ever listened to! Thank you for making it clear!
I'll take the a step further and say the Attack Titan is only as good as its last holder.
you are the only guy out of all the yt or threads who explained it so damn well. Thank you.
I think after Grisha realized what Marley did, he honestly wanted everything from Eren's future memories to happen. I wish Eren showed that memory to Zeke.
He wouldnt show the memory to Zeke because Erens goal is to be stopped in the end.
Grisha's voice actor deserves a raise after this one, 10/10 immersion. I really felt for him.
This is for FOR SURE the best plot of all film I have ever seen. Such an interesting story that was carefully planned to lead us to a great end to the series.

With the attack titan's abilities, I wouldn't be surprised if Eren manipulated attack titan users before Eren Kruger so that it can all lead up to him inheriting it.
@@MrDemiseOG why again can eren manipulate the memories and no one else can?
Just GENIUS writing
your breakdown is the best on the youtube bro. I have seen others but no one is convincing as you.

Incredible video. Thanks for explaining so much.
I was so confused this episode I’m so glad these videos are made 🙏🙏
Eren is the one who brainwashed his father … after Zeke changed his mind he realized how much of a basterd Eren is . I really appreciate the complexity in this story . It’s a lot to wrap your mind around
consider who is controlling eren, eren sees a fate and future that he cannot alter and that he realizes is simply not in his control, eren is just as much a slave to the will of ymir as these other characters are to eren's actions
Eren is controlled by the future, just as the royal bloodline is controlled by the past.
@@kennethrobinson3630 nah in the next episode or two you'll see how even Eren wasn't even in control of the shitshow

Well, he had 3 perfect conditions:
1. He had the ability of the Attack Titan
2. The ability of the Founding Titan
Bro , you’re a genius. Thank you
As a anime only watcher bro I been waiting for this explanation 🙏🏿
Grishas apology and plea to Zeke to stop Eren was so convincing.. i really felt bad for Grisha.. and Zeke tbh
Erin is the definition of you either die as a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

There was a slight musical key and glimmer in her eye before she tells Grisha she can’t go along with his plan
- Eren’s speech to his father was the same one Kruger gave Griesha before he gave him the attack Titan, so who quoted who?
@@Professor-fc7vc YESSSS The Harry Potter 3! Great analogy 👍
Yea, that’s one of the biggest questions I wanna know. Did he know all along? Or did he have to catch on
@@papikaaash yeah same idk if that was the moment he influenced grisha and sent back memories or if he uses the founding titan power later to do more extensive 'brainwashing'
This made him realizes:
Thank you for the amazing video... subscribed
