Bill, I am glad you found a trailer that will protect your motorcycle and E-bikes! It will give you peace of mind when traveling. I found it so fascinating to watch how you easily figure out the angles to cut the plywood to fit the floor of the trailer. You and Elizabeth enjoy the Florida weather. It is snowing here in Michigan and it’s forecast 10-15 inches by next Wednesday. Winter has arrived!
I did a quick search on Amazon for "trailer tongue spare tire mount" and found several. That would be easier for you than hoisting your spare on top of the trailer. Also, it wouldn't require putting any holes in the trailer roof. I think they didn't install any tie-downs because almost everyone would want them in different places for different uses. I was surprised at how reasonable the prices were on new utility trailers, when I looked at them several years ago. You'll have a little extra space inside the trailer, too, for cargo to take with you on those trips. It will help keep your RV less cluttered on the trips back and forth. That trailer looks like a very good choice for you. I wish you many happy miles with it. And a belated Happy Thanksgiving to you and Elizabeth.
Unfortunately as we get older many of us think more and need more comfort for our aging bodies. I thought I would be strong but my illness and other health issues means I don't have the energy I used to have. My 💕 hearts young but I'm older so I can see why things are more complicated. 💕 Love yous. ❤ GREECE ❤.
Hi Elizabeth and Bill. If you decided to sell one of your homes, this set up would work well going back and forth to see family. I wonder if this is in your plans. Yes, excellent to keep bikes covered. It's a necessity these days. 🤗
Hello Bill. You can attach it to the underside of the front frame of the hitch frame with bar across the top and a U-bolt. I have seen it done many times.
My Dad was an electrician. He had a small box trailer set up with shelves for his tools. Some 30 years ago, he decided to sell it and get a utility bed for his truck. A deeply regretted decision.
It looks like you are having great weather and getting a chance to live the good life. I know you had previously said you were taking down your hot tub and hauling it back to VA to enjoy there over the summer. Have you had a chance to put it back up on your porch in Florida? It’s so cold where I live, and I can really appreciate about now how a good soak in your hot tub, enjoying the Florida weather would be. Best wishes to you both and Godspeed.
We haven't put the hot tub up yet because we're leaving in a few days to spend most of December in VA for Christmas. We'll inflate the hot tub after we get back to FL in January.
Congrats!! We bought our 8.5' x 18' cargo trailer from Georgia!! We converted it into a RV and currently live in it full-time!! 😊 God bless your Adventures in a Box Truck and other things your doing!!
Could you simply mount brackets high and inside the wall of the trailer and mount the tire there? I think mounting anything outside will definitely impact your mpg and make travel very expensive with the cost of gas.
Maybe you could keep your toolbox in there also? Cinderblock under each corner. You could put some hocks on the walls to hang your folding chairs. Carry charcoal and BBQ stuff in there also to free up space in the camper. Nice job. Thanks for sharing. Hope you 2 wonderful people had a great Thanksgiving yesterday. God bless and protect.
I don’t understand why you would mount your spare outside when you could mount it inside your cargo trailer. Out side you will get sun rote ( especially in Florida), and you have the potential for someone to steal it. I’ve seen many videos where people have mounted their spares on the inside.
If the spare were mounted inside on the ceiling in the front V, would it be too much in the way? I agree that with outside mounting, it would be affected by excess sun exposure & the possibility of developing those legs. Don't know if a tire mounted on the outside would add back to the wind resistance issue, as well, but . . . could it? Regardless, very sensible choice.
Great Move! Funny as soon as I saw the inside I noticed no tie downs. Plenty of room for all bikes plus. Makes a good Bug Out vehicle. lol Good luck…..B
Great idea having an enclosed trailer, your bikes will be safer inside there and, a better way to carry extras if necessary. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences, really appreciate it!! Virginia is for lovers! ❤🤝👋
Good job Bill!! I know those single axle trailers are tricky. My husband bought one to house his generator. Trailer price sounded quite expensive to me for the size of it but inhavent priced trailers lately either
Excellent, Bill! Several years back, I got a toy trailer that can double as a sleep space. The selling point for me was that the tongue weight was 30 lbs. I was alone much of the time, and figured if I had to hook up the trailer all by myself, it was better to have a trailer with a tongue weight I could lift. It's very light, can hold only 1000 lbs, but also can be towed with nearly any car or truck. Lately, I've been looking at truck caps. It's great to have an open bed when moving tall, bulky things, but having a cap to keep it out of weather and offer a bit of privacy would be nice
Excellent choice. You may be able to attach some hooks or such on the walls inside trailer to hang some things that would normally be inside of camper.
On the inside drivers v wall make a shallow cabinet (depth of tire) and mount the tire on top of cabinet. Will be kept dry and free of rust. Cabinet can hold a bottle jack and small amount of tools. At the very top of our v nose we have a rubber maid wire rack holds light weight things like a tarp, rope, tie downs.
Actually you probably won't really notice much change in gas mileage since the truck will kind of shield the trailer from the wind. It might even help as there won't be such a draft behind you. That is not something I know but, maybe...
The problem is not the increase drag, because, as you say, the trailer is sheltered behind the truck. What would decrease gas milage is the increased weight.
I'm wondering about water/rain/ if, you were on your e bikes or motorcycle and it was raining. Would a heavy rubber mat be needed to protect the plywood?
ANYTHING can be stolen if the thief is dedicated enough. But the chance of the entire trailer being stolen is much less than the chance of ebikes being stolen from the open trailer. And the trailer tongue has a padlock on it.
I have worked in Douglas Ga at the college for the past 34 years. The town was hit really hard with the hurricane. There are some great state parks in south georgia for camping.
Nice job as usual Bill - i see you gave your wife the day off - Ha ha :-) Soon as my xrp crypto hits i am doing the same rig set up. The bike i like is the vstar 950 tour package and used its $3-$4k with under 15.000 miles. I don`t need two houses one is enough but my camper will be my 2nd which is sweet. I get tired of one place or the people and bang off i go to a new place. Loving the travel program and the free places to park for the evening and all the state and national parks that i have a pass for ! Love the videos and frugal is the way to go my friend !!!
I learn a lot from your carpenter skills, I wouldn’t have thought to get the nose angle the way you did, with minimum waste as well.. looks like that trailer will hold all the toys 👍 BTW, sell the old open trailer, every landscaper uses those, should bring in decent money in Florida, and will help offset some of the cost of the closed trailer.
You’ll have to move your box truck spare tire cover …well I guess you could make a new sign to match the tire cover for the back or side of the trailer with catchy wording!!😊
Always making improvements Bill. You've got the "bug". 😂 I wonder how much this extra length will change how you look for parking as you travel. You were so pleased that your short van could fit into regular parking spaces. For example when you find a nice place to stop and use your bikes do these parks have pull through parking areas? Is this something you will have to research ahead of time? Backing up with our little camper was always such a nightmare.😮 Looking forward to future travel videos.❤😊🙏🇨🇦
I don't need a pull through. Backing up is not an issue. I was a truck driver for 8 years, backing up a 53' semi. Parking will be a little harder, and that's one of the reasons I don't know if we will actually take the trailer on a long trip to the west. Probably just local camping trips with the bikes.
Another great video ❤. I have to confess I'm guilty of enjoying browsing for your replies to numerous suggestions for bonus entertainment 🤭. Not to say you don't get many great suggestions, it's just that generally you've already thought it through.

@@heathermacdonald5986an enclosed trailer is kind of needed in their build as they have no storage on the outside. I’m with bill and Elizabeth on this purchase as I wouldn’t want my e-bikes out in the weather on an open trailer, not to mention added security as e-bikes/trikes are not cheap to replace.
@@s_hassell97 yes I agree ..a good idea…but to my point..the reason for the purchase was to accommodate more stuff..e bikes..motorcycle etc…their lifestyle has taken a dramatic change and I feel their message has as well. They are no longer living a simple life…living free yes!
@@heathermacdonald5986Living simple doesn’t mean living frugal. It just means living within your means. Nothing is accumulating debt and they are enjoying a much deserved retirement. 😊
I've seen some awesome cargo trailer builds. The materials they are built from, wood and aluminum and a solid roof cap were the reason. To consider buying a newer trailer, after seeing others on the road, being nickel and dimed over cheap parts, designed to break, it didn't seem logical. A build is exactly what you want, not what someone else wanted. I can put a pen knife through the walls of most campers. Not secure. No thank you.
I just wanted to let you know not that you want fame and fortune but Elon musk is following me on Twitter so everything I put out there I put your guys's video out there all the time how about that you got somebody pretty important looking at what you're saying because you guys make sense to me and you're doing what God's telling you to do give Elizabeth a big hug for me and I send you my best travel safely this year and have a good time down in Florida shalom to you by the way they took my other account down about 2 months ago before the election this is my new account now
I have lived in Florida almost 50 years,30 in central Florida, then moved north. I have known many people, even in central Florida who saved a lot by buying their vehicle out of state.
I was thing, a covered trailer for theft purposes. And, now that you are traveling between houses, you're guaranteed to use it at least twice a year. Also, carrying building materials would be safer.
The only problem with carrying materials is that I can no longer carry 12-foot lumber because the back door MUST be closed when driving, and the trailer is only 10 feet long. With the open trailer, I can let the lumber hang over the back and put a flag on it.

Hi Bill & Elizabeth,so glad to hear you bought an enclosed trailer.Less worries for sure.❤️
You'll enjoy the extra storage space. I pulled mine behind my slide in camper. Really nice to free up the living space.
When the motorcycle and e-bikes are in there, they take the entire space! There's not much room for anything else.
