  • When we moved to our small town, we never thought we'd love it as much as we do. After living here for two years, we can say with certainty that it's one of the best decisions we've ever made. From being connected to the community and the markets, here are some of the reasons why we love living in a small town:

I was born in a mountainous village where there was no doctor and one licensed midwife some 50 years ago and grew up in a small town until I went to college. These experiences somehow make me a city-loving person. However, living in Taiwan is quite convenient, even living in a small city. Meanwhile, cost of living is also a significant consideration.

the music from the garbage truck is so adorable. Reminds me of an ice cream van 😊

Oh the garbage trucks! Do you know how many westerners get? Really excited when they hit the garbage truck for the first time because they have lovely childhood memories of being given some change to go get some ice cream from the ice cream truck and then you run outside and then you smell garbage instead of sticky sweetness milky sunshine? It's interesting to be hold for the first time when you see the new western come out looking and then see the disappointment on their face. It's tragic but funny at the same time. Lol. ~JB

    善化離台南很近,受南科的影響,這幾年真的變化很大,對你們而言,可能會覺得比較吵。十幾年前的善化真的很安靜😀~~,祝你們在善化-台南生活愉快~~

Even though we are new to the area, we can see the influence that Nanke has on Shanhua. There are a lot of large buildings being erected for residential purposes.

"There's nothing she can do about! Except edit this out I guess." 🤣 When I was younger I wanted to live in a bigger city because of all the excitement and things to do. As I get older though I really appreciate the mellowness of living in a more reasonably sized city. But as an introvert, TOO small of a city would stress me out haha

As an extrovert, I didn't think I would be able to enjoy living in a small town, but maybe it's because I am getting older. 😉~JB

So glad to hear you're happy! We're loving living in Sevilla. After living in the US, where it's almost impossible to survive without a car, we're thrilled to be without one now. Sevilla is walkable and bikeable. We have fabulous fresh fruit and veggie markets everywhere, and Paul (the shopper) has made friends with all the sellers - and they're helping him with his Spanish.
When we first arrived, we soon discovered that our neighborhood was talking about those crazy 'Americanos' who retired in Sevilla instead of at the beach, like all the other "Americanos' and Brits. They must love our culture. They're probably ok!
We, too, have stores that sell EVERYTHING. Here, they're called 'Bazaars', and they seem to be mostly Asian-owned. MANY years ago, in the US, there were stores like that. We called them "Five-and-Ten-Cent" stores. Kinda like a WalFart (no - that wasn't a typo), but way tinier and owned by one not-so-rich person.
I'd need another 5 pages to rave about the live music scene, art scene, dance scene..... Come visit! (Marj & Paul)

I miss yous twos so much and would love for you to meet Leah. I dream of us dining and dancing in Sevilla. We thought we could make it this summer but as the they say here in Taiwan "計劃趕不上變化 - The plans can't keep up with the changes." We enjoy the snippets you share on the socials and hope you to join you some day. Until then we'll raise some glasses and enjoy what we have now as it's all really a just blink of an eye this time in our mortal coils. If you ever want to get a taste of Taiwan, we have a 2 bedroom and you are always welcome!

    1. Taiwan has a highly strategic location in Asia. 60% of the world's economy passes through the Taiwan waters. Whoever gets Taiwan can control the whole of Asia.
    2. The third world war will start in 2019. The United States and China, the two major nuclear powers, will not engage in a hot military war, but use virus attacks. The Chinese Communist Party fired this shot. The 3-year plague killed more people worldwide than the battlefields of World War II.
    3. The Chinese Communist Party once attacked Taiwan with the SARS virus, and this covid is the second time. The Chinese Communist Party uses unrestricted warfare instead of military hot war. China wants to use viruses to kill the whole world.
