What did you do to ensure your headdress was handled the way you expected? They will always find a way to be victims.

Pack it properly yourself for crap sake. Seriously???? Way to play the victim card.

Simple fix? Bags for skis. Oversized odd shaped items get checked differently than special items. Surfboards? If it cannot fit normally, it must go in the belly. What was the disrespect?

Everybody is a victim these days! I worked for a "major airline" years back, and celebrity musicians would often book a seat next to themselves for their prized possession - oftentimes a guitar or violin.

The aircraft is a Q400 which has very very very little space for carry on baggage. The Air Canada Crew followed protocol and wrapped the hat box in a "clear plastic" bag with the AIR CANADA logo on it, which can be used for multiple uses. The 'clear plastic bag with the AIR CANADA logo ' had to be put in the cargo hold because it does not FIT in the overhead bins. There is no disrespect!!! Some Aircraft in the Air Canada fleet (especially the smaller ones) have limits on what the size requirements for carry-on baggage. These are the FACTS!!!! AFN Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak wanted the an extra seat for the headdress!

How big is the Headdress? Did it fit under the Seat? Was it going to hurt anybody? If you had a CASE for it, why couldn't it be checked. Is it because you would have to pay an oversize charge? If that's the case, just follow the rules the rest of Canada must follow. What makes you special? I heard you ask Air Canada for a special seat for Chiefs, well if you need a special seat, pay for it like everyone else. I understand your heritage and respect it, and I know how important the headdress is in your culture, but you are not any better than the rest of Canadians.

By the picture 2.5 feet and 14" in diameter. For a small plane, it was big. But I understand why someone would not want in the luggage area.

Does she not have a case for it? Like taking a mandolin for heavens sake. This is why folks get so I don’t care anymore about indigenous issues…daily everyone gets jerked around by airlines…most airline employees these days in Canada have not a clue about anything Canadian anyways…anything for a drama I suppose…
