Despite being a lifelong Led Zep purist I'm still very happy to say that there is something very respectful about the approach Pretty Lights has taken, all of the bands greatness still bleeds through in several key parts (notably the black dog solo, when the levee breaks drums), and I feel that exactly the same can be said for the remix of Pink Floyd's Time. Fucking incredible!
NostalgicDays88 I know right. One of the main reasons I liked their podcast straight off the bat was the excellent musical choices they make, not to mention the laid back and humble approach they take regarding the paranormal.
@redstorm563 completely agree. he is so good at creating original sounding stuff from pre-existing material. absolutely no DJ or electronic artists can even come close to this guy.
In order of appearence: 1. No Quarter 2. Dazed and Confused 3. Whole Lotta Love 4. Dazed and Confused (vocal) 5. No Quarter Vocal 6. Whole Lotta love (Riff) 7. Black Dog (Riff) 8. Dazed and Confused (vocal) 9. The Crunge (plus the first 3) 10. Black Dog (vocals) 11. Repeat until around 5:20 12. Whole Lotta Love (drum fill) 13. When the Levee Breaks
Here from Expanded Perspectives. I've been searching for this version of Dazed and Confused - it's the best one, IMO. So mysterious sounding, great theme for the show!
Don't say Led Zep can't be built upon. Jimmy Page would beg to differ. A master mixer himself, of stereophonic recording, panning and for Christs sake, he used a bow on an electric guitar. Besides it makes me all warm to know theres a whole new generation of children asking themselves who the fuck Led Zepplin is. Bravissimo to Pretty Lights.
People need accept the fact that over time music changes, and if anything, it is interesting to see how a modern rendition of 40 year-old songs would turn out.
@GJCiotti been lovin your posts of the pretty lights remixes. after this one I'm gonna listen to the time remix one. keep it goin with these songs and remixes
Most people shouldn't mess with the classics, but I give you permission Mr. Pretty Lights. Also love how you have No Quarter playing in the background!
@redstorm563 i love zeppelin and this is def the best remix ive heard its got so many songs and it really just enhances them and doesnt just play them over each other
Well, I guess I'm late to the game here... but I was just searching for Led Zeppelin remixes and the first thing that came up was Pretty Lights. LoL!!! I almost died. >D
Zeppelin was originally known for sampling so much... This is the nature of life folks. Everything is recycled and remixed. If any of you think for one second that the music you hear from anywhere is original you're delusional... Pretty Lights is an amazing talent, and regardless of what anyone says, I'll enjoy his music for as long as he's around
This is so badass.. I love Zeppelin... and I thought a dubstep mix would fuck it up... But PL did its thing right.. much respect fellas.... ha!! DubZep...
@TheDreamRemains Then listen to it again. At 0:43 he uses the drum buildup from Whole Lotta Love that comes just as the song is about to break before the solo comes in. At 3:20 he uses the high hat from Whole Lotta Love that keeps time at the start of the break. I don't have the time to go through it again but he also sampled the intro to When the Levee Breaks. There's a spot where it plays straight through but he also chops it up to use the individual drum hits in places too.
I am a HUGE ZEP Head myself and find this mix BRILLIANT!!! I bet Robert, Jimmy & JPJ's would love this. Yes Led Zeppelin cant be touched but I find this refreshing. I wish you could make a full CD using your choice of Zeppelin tracks.Unfortunately, I think it would be impossible to get the rights to use the music from the band. Putting it on You Tube is one thing, Making a cd & promoting it is a whole other story. Can u do a mix using No Quarter please??? Love that song!!!
@@josephsmy1994 I'll have to give it another listen. I don't recall hearing No Quarter but unfortunately there were people around me when I first listened to this and may have gotten distracted. Thankyou my Zep brother. Zepluv

Not only was Pretty Lights able to use pieces from Led Zeppelin and match them to a more upbeat rhythm, he then takes them and mixes this track in and out of two other tracks that could be faster/slower time signatures and be completely different sounds. Go see Pretty Lights in concert and then tell me that he's not an artist. He'll paint you a whole new spectrum of music.
@TiMmYnAhH Yep, Adam Deitch was the drummer. he plays with the jamband lettuce now (who are wonderful), and he plays with break science. Think he got sick of playing live shows where the other part of the show just presses play and gets drunk.
Ok, between this and the original "No Quarter" I have to chose the original. Sure, I like Pretty Lights. However, I love Led Zeppelin. I appreciate that Derek loves Zeppelin as well, as made apparent by this remix. But come on, let's be honest, I've never in my life heard Zeppelin remixed and enjoyed it more than the originals. If u agree with me, then you are not an idiot ;)
i love the Good Times Bad Times background drumming in the beginning but it could use some help on the vocal effects because its sounds fine as his normal voice-lol Robert Plant's voice + effects = :(
And that was part of the Zeppelin greatness, willing to mess with alot of things, a few blues masters did end up suing them. Same thing with a Fistful of Dollars, ripoff of Yojimbo, but as Kurosawa said when he sued "It was a very good movie, but it was HIS movie". Big fan of both.
@austizzlemayneherron Man I was just not sure if everyone else reading/listening would be on the same level as me at the time. I mean, I'm sure lots are but thats beside the point.
@melcufericit There's always one person who says that lol. I think this is dope - in years to come when dubstep & electro have evolved, people will talk about the beginning of the genre and this song will be considered a classic. In fact, lots of Pretty Lights' shit will

Expanded Perspectives podcast brought me here! What a cool intro.

They DO have a great podcast - excellent topics and I love the music!

Same here. Expanded Perspectives is a really enjoyable podcast.
Yeah dude cant wait to see him live again. One of the greatest shows I've seen
i usually don't like when people mess with Zeppelin songs, but this is just amazing
I think its great that Pretty lights does the songs, its a nice change, I saw him in Colorado, red rocks theater
Was looking for this everywhere!!! Thank you!!!

Whole Lotta Love over the drums from When The Levee Breaks 🤌

This is just beautiful.
Pretty Lights......making days at work bearable for the masses.
Thank you!
Exactly, thats the beauty of this. Its like a modern day inception of what Zeppelin was doing back in the day.
I’ll never stop loving this
match made in heaven, this is simply beautiful. my lord
if its not "special", then anyone can do it. but anyone cant, so props for making it.
Absolutely mind blowing

godly! been waiting to hear this for a long time. kinda funny how its pretty much in exact order of how i wanted to ear it! pulled it off smoothly!
God dammit Derek this is so good on so many levels don't ever stop changing the game forever daaaazed daaaazed daaaaazed
Crisp, one of the best remixes I've heard in some time.
I've been fused and condazed for not long so it's true.
why so clever

2020 я и метамфетамин вместе с Led Zeppelin. Одесса 💥
While I am NOT a fan of Led Zeppelin I have to Admit, This is Amazing.
i never thought i'd enjoy a dubstep remix of something as timeless as led zepellin

@TheFapperman The drum i think is from When the Levee Breaks, but sped up quite some!
this song at the backyard in austin 2 weeks ago, fucking like highlight of the show. he kept going back into it the whole time i feel like.
Expanded Perspectives.
Audi R8 twinturbo brought me 8 years ago 😁
this is absolutely righteous!
To anyone complaining about the fact he's uber-sampling Zepp: Just be glad it's PL and not some youtube hack. It could be SOOOO much worse.
This is so sick!
Exquisite...

in my own opinion nothing compares to led zeppelin

this isn't supposed to compare to led zeppelin. its just a new and other view on their music.

@Luckzzz Hahah, nope. I just...wasn't sure it would make sense to anyone else at the time.
Am I the only one that loves this moment 01:50 - 02:20 ?
That was When The Levee Breaks, probably the most sampled drum track of all time. Bonzo liked hitting things until all the vodka happened.
soooo sick!!!!
This is insane. Led Zep FTW
Blew my knee out at identity because of this song... only regret? My other one still worked lol must go harder next time!

Honestly, I don't even think I would consider PL dubstep.. Just my opinion
it already isn't considerd dubstep...
yeah but some people on here think different, regardless DVS and PL are the shit.. that sunrise set at bonnaroo was epic
Matt Powell
According to DVS it's Electro hip-hop soul.
ya ik man
Awesome remix!!! Fuuukkkk!!
if led zeppelin had synths and softwares like nowadays they would have done the same, funk has no instrumental boundries
would you rather have jessica simpson remake it? come on. this guy is giving LZ some mad respect with this
Go listen to No Quarter for mind blowing effects
Its L.E.D. Zeppelin!
Because like, you know, LEDs are lights. Pretty ones. And like...Zeppelin, man.
...get it?
no quarter remix please!!
