  • *As of August 2nd, 2016, 1607 was permanently taken out of school bus service and sold to a church. I sure will miss this bus, as I rode it for my first 3 years of high school.
    I recorded this video last month right after taking the ACT. It was a crazy day. The buses began loading around 11:40 for us juniors as well as the sophomores after we took the ACT and Plan tests. The freshmen had it hard because they had to stay all day and take PARCC tests. Because of this, the afternoon high school routes had to be done twice. The first routes left around 12:15, and the second routes left around 1:45. I was on the first run, and my brother was on the second.
    This is my daily bus, and has been since August 2013. It's numbered 1607, and it's a 2006 Blue Bird Vision. Just like any other Vision, it has the iconic CAT C7 engine. It has a white roof, gray seats, air brakes, manual door, incandescent lights, replacement strobing LED stop arm, PA/radio entertainment system, and a replacement Kenwood NX-800 two-way radio transceiver. This is one out of only four air brake buses remaining at this company terminal, and it's the only conventional (non-flat nose) air brake bus on the fleet. The other air brake units are 1, a Saf-T-Liner C2, 1408 (video on my channel) and 2352, both All Americans. This Vision has the skinnier entrance doors on it and faster turn signal relays that click rather than beep.
    Over the past few years, I have grown to love riding on this bus everyday, especially since these older Visions are being retired day by day. When it was first moved up from Minnesota in 2013, it was kind of junk bus, but thanks to the wonderful mechanics in the shop, this bus is basically flawless. It's had at least 10 big replacements/fixes done to it in the past three years, including a 2-week, $1800 engine job up at CAT.
    Very sadly, due to the 10-year policy, this bus must be taken out of daily service at the end of this school year. Realistically, this bus only has about another month of service. My bus driver will have to be assigned another for next year, if the company even keeps the district contract, and this bus will most likely be put into service as a spare/air brake training bus. Hopefully I'll get one more good video of it before the year is over. I'm not sure how many other first gen Visions, if any, will be pulled from service this year. The only one I'm somewhat confident about is 3112, as I believe it's a 2007 Vision, so it won't need to be taken out until 2018.
    Some of the other first generation Visions owned by the yard are 214, 1434, 1435, 1444, 1445, 1446, and 1605, and 3112. 1607 is most similar to 1446 and 3112, but all of them are different in some way. The yard also had 1606 up until 2014 when it was either moved to another terminal or retired due to multiple mechanical problems, supposedly. I might be missing a few, as I have never seen the whole fleet, but will next week when I visit the yard.

    "You just keep rubbing that in Ryan, don'tcha?" Cracked me up.
    And how the heck do you know every single detail about that bus? Even right down to the "Kenwood NX-800 two-way radio transceiver" lmao! Do you know what make and model the fire extinguisher is? I'm a locomotive engineer and we deal with foamers on a regular basis who are HEAVILY detail-oriented and obsess over silly numbers and figures, it's funny.

      +msj191961 Interesting. I don't even know anything about our locomotive radios other than they're made by Ritron and we have Davis Clark headsets haha!

    did you guys have 1611? Because bus#45 use to be #1611

    • @msj191961
      @msj191961  7 лет назад

      No, we have never had it. West Chicago had 1605, 1606, and 1607 at one point, but that's it. The only 1600 Vision we have left in service up here in Carol Stream is 1605, and that will probably be pulled by the end of this school year or the next one.

      I have no idea. It's retired and no longer at the yard, so I can't get anymore detailed specs on it. All I know is the lights were incandescent.
