What bothers me is that they weren't using winter diesel. The fuel failed, not the car. In Nordic countries petrol stations switch to winter diesel when the season changes.
or just petrol, because diesel works by self igniting at a certain temperture (when you start the car the combustion chamber needs to be heated for which it has glowing sticks) and usually when it touches the top of the combustion chamber. while petrol works by simply igniting the fuel just like if you were to use a lighter
I've honestly never heard of winter diesel, I live on a farm in Canada and as far as I know the tractors run on the same dyed diesel from 35*C to -35*C. @@RobKaiser_SQuest you live on a farm, in North America, and only tractors or heavy duty pick up trucks use diesel there. In Europe, diesel powered small passenger cars are very common. Hum Do you know that we often have -10 to -20° in winter in France ? Not in every place of course, but in the East and in Mountains we often do. That's why it's essential to have cars that sustain such temperatures.
the reason the engine isn't working, is because it use diesel for warmer climate. they should use the same Diesel that we use in North Norway, that can handle -50C
One morning last winter I forgot to put on my engine-block heater. It was -36 C. I had to get to school in time, so I thought I'll try to start the car, even though my expectations for it starting were not high. The engine turned over twice and sounded really lazy, but it started! I love my Mazda. Citroën is not a very valued brand here up north. When the temp drops below -10 C it's unlikely to start and it's not considered very reliable either.
In Arizona during winter it gets to about -25 and I've shoveled snow without a jacket in that weather its not to bad as long as you keep shoveling like your life depends on it
it might be that the Diesel in you'r area is different from that diesel this car was fueled with. if you go to North Norway, you will get Diesel that can handle -50C
but they didn't use winter fuel. for example her in Norway. the fuel you get on the petrol station in south Norway is different from the fuel in North Norway. and during winter time you can get an extreme version of that fuel, that can handle -50 60C
Put summer diesel in your 325tds and you will have the same problem as it is seen here. ;) Without winter diesel and the frost protection additives in it, no Diesel would Start at -16°C.
This is the UK, we don't have such things as Winter/Summer Diesel, once the Diesel gels, without a fuel heater no engine is starting on it, it's not technically the cars fault. EDIT: Thought I should add, this car is also a Toyota.
deafyboy86 Of course there is winter/summer diesel in UK. The difference is not shown or advertised on the Gas station, but from October the Diesel that is sold always contents additives to avoid freezing. It is still just called 'diesel' on the Station, just the mixture is different. As far as I know, this is the procedure for all countries northern and central Europe. You can try it on your own. Buy some liters of diesel in summer and put it in your empty tank in winter. The car won't start with the Summer Diesel, because it is like honey. Then go to the gas station and get some more Diesel that is sold there during frosty temperatures and the car will start.
Here in holland winters can reach -15, you may say that that is not that cold, but we have wind and rain, a shitload of it. It just amplifies winter 10 fold

What season is This and episode???
only -40C thats a Canadian winter
I wouldn't expect a french car to even run on -5C .. Let alone -15 or more..
I think it is actually a rebadged Toyota Aygo with a different body kit. The Peugoet 107 is the same too! If you look at their engines you will actually see Toyota written on it :P
Hum
Do you know that we often have -10 to -20° in winter in France ? Not in every place of course, but in the East and in Mountains we often do. That's why it's essential to have cars that sustain such temperatures.
My Peugeot 306 1.9d starts in -30c On the first crank over.. I think you failed.
Chris Vickers
The Diesel Engine is made by Citroen...only the 1.0 Benzine is made by Toyota ;)
the reason the engine isn't working, is because it use diesel for warmer climate. they should use the same Diesel that we use in North Norway, that can handle -50C
0:39 oh god, that face! priceles hahha
If u want to drive to the north pole, buy a Hammond
I would buy a hammond, but the insurance would be too high
These guys put themselves through an awful lot for their programme.
I remember this from TV
Yeah, same.
Cute
my hammond broke down :(
One morning last winter I forgot to put on my engine-block heater.
So that's why citrons aren't sold in canada
Yay for Hammond! Saving the car industry!
Bryan Adams!
In Arizona during winter it gets to about -25 and I've shoveled snow without a jacket in that weather its not to bad as long as you keep shoveling like your life depends on it
typical Russia's cardriver winter morninng day
Typical Finn cardriver summer morning.
@@12michak12 summer in Finland it's typically between 20-30C ..Dont lie.
It's colder in Canada.. My 1.5T civic has no issues in -45c
It cant start in -26? Even my 25 year old diesel merc can handle that Lol.
Old Mercs last a long time
it might be that the Diesel in you'r area is different from that diesel this car was fueled with. if you go to North Norway, you will get Diesel that can handle -50C
Wow the testing you guys do... :) thanks
Both my 2000 audi a6 and f-150 start in -40C, that little car is worthless.
but they didn't use winter fuel. for example her in Norway. the fuel you get on the petrol station in south Norway is different from the fuel in North Norway. and during winter time you can get an extreme version of that fuel, that can handle -50 60C
Come do this during Jan/Feb in Alaska. Our cars generally start right up in colder
Any Russian car will start at -30C lol.
Probably the lowest level of transport though, they are so hilariously cheaply put together those Ladas.
JackpodyDK cheap but tough ;)
I guess, I wouldn't want to be seen in one though.
How many miles can you get out of a hammond?
can i get 2 black hammods plz?
Yeah you would like a black hammond wouldn't ya?
Welcome to finland! -30 is basic morning temperature in winter and my little Citroen strats no problem!
My polo tdi starts easly at - 20 -25. French schit
vag TDI ftw
Polo is shit....
+Galaxy Man hahaha
Citroen would have started just fine if the fuel was winter grade.
The way they switch to him shaking 😂😂
My '93 BMW 325tds starts even at -28°C ... What shit car that C1 is.... Perfect example for french Engineering at its finest
Comparing a BMW with a C1... What shit logic that is...
-35 and the volvo 240 stilll starts without problem
I was doing fine in an Astra made year 95 on gas(lpg) in the freezeing - 25 and it had a good coldstart
"If you wanna drive to the North Pole buy a Hammond!"
😂😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😆
Ole Ole feeling hot hot hot, they couldn't have chosen a better song than that one lol :)
It get down to -55f with windchill of -65f here in North Dakota USA
Here in holland winters can reach -15, you may say that that is not that cold, but we have wind and rain, a shitload of it. It just amplifies winter 10 fold
I've gone skiing in -40 degrees Fahrenheit without windchill added. That is no joke cold. I had to take breaks every two runs to warm up in the lodge
I had a diesel truck in Edmonton and quite familiar with those temperatures. So is the fuel companies. Your diesel does not have any winter additives.
It was -29 degrees C in Canada last Christmas and that was normal!
Mazda 2 DE, I was able to use it in -18 C
normal temp for winter in MN, sometimes much colder. just get him a car blanket and some hand warmers. domt drive diesel if you have the choice
Good old days ...watched it when it aired first time on TV..
“Bus a Hammond”😂😂 in i could ive doen it already
Nice to know that car still works fine and is passing Mots
we did the same thing lol
