Why are the Liszt transcriptions of the Beethoven symphonies so unknown? They're truly a masterpiece that deserve to be heard by all and Andy Liu's performance in this video is quite magnificent.
Since I fist heard the 6 Beethoven synfony in this Lizt piano transcript, opend a way for me to feel the soul of this synfony. I heard several interprets, but Andy Liu seems to uderstand the Beethoven world. I uselly say. - Beethoven come to our world, but spend his whole life trying to get away from here and go to his beloved world, his music. In the last part,, be in a infinite, perfect and eternal world, contemplating in the horizon his immoital beloved walking trhough the fields. The FINALE,, the deep sadness of his soul saying goodby to this worl.
Mi admiración por su ejecución e interpretación de una de los temas más complejos y hermosos jamás creados por el hombre en muchos siglos. Es la mejor interpretación que he escuchados.Gracias..
Beethoven would be the first to object to the whole notion of Liszt’s transitional works! Why waste a moment of your precious time on the piano versions when Beethoven already transcribed them for us into the symphonies we all know and love! The Symphonic versions unlock the true nature of Beethoven’s vision, a vision whose horizons are far beyond the piano. I appreciate the sentiment but no, this will not do!
These transcriptions sure show what a powerhouse Liszt was when it came to transcribing for piano. More than anything else, however, Liszt's intention was to make a tribute to the great man who he perhaps revered the most. Read his preface to these transcriptions. (part of it I have written below) "[E]ven the most imperfect piano arrangement will now and then reveal traces, a little obliterated perhaps, of a master's inspiration. [...] I confess that I should have to regard it as a rather useless employment of my time if I had produced just another version of the Symphonies in a manner up to now routine. But I shall think my time well spent if I have succeeded in transferring to the piano not only the grand outlines of Beethoven's compositions but also those multitude of details and finer points that make such a significant contribution to the perfection of the whole. I will be satisfied if I stand on the level of the intelligent engraver, or the conscientious translator, who grasps the spirit of a work and thus contributes to our insight into the great masters and to our sense of the beautiful."
Andy’s dynamic range and technical mastery of the piano are on display for our visual and audio delight. One powerful impresario
Absolutely Magnificent. Thank You.

Because virtually nobody can play them lol
I have asked myself this question many times. It's really a shame that they don't get played much. Thank you for bringing it up!
Beautifully done, Andy!

Fantastic! As far as I can tell, this is the only video of anyone actually playing this in its entirety.
Wonderful performance and interpretation.
