    Honestly, more useful than my French professor, who so far has just spoken rapid French at us with some visual cues in hopes that it will still.

    I already understand when to use à, dans and en...but I was wondering which is à or en that use with masculine cities and town. Merci beaucoup, tu es le meilleur!

    A good way of simplifying the rule, especially when the countries are in Europe. What about le Mexique which end with an e but is masculine.

    Hi, Pascal! So, when we speak about feminine countries, can it be understood that the article "la" is somehow hidden inside the preposition "en", or is it better to say that "la" is omitted? Thanks!

    • @Frenchspanishonline
      @Frenchspanishonline  8 лет назад

      I dont think so

    • @NataliDali
      @NataliDali 8 лет назад

      +Learn French with Pascal Thus, if in "au Portugal", and similar, "au" is contraction of "à" and "le", how do we explain the absence of the article "la" in the phrases like "en France" ? Thanks!

    • @elchami743
      @elchami743 8 лет назад +1

      +Natali Dali the rule is to use the preposition en in those cases. you don't need to complicate things. the rule is like that.

    • @NataliDali
      @NataliDali 8 лет назад

      +Michael Jannes Thank you, Michael. The rule is clear: however, an experienced advanced student would not be able to merely learn it and just use it without thinking it over first, without understanding the reason why it is so, i.e. the etymology of the phenomenon.

    • @elchami743
      @elchami743 8 лет назад +1

      I understand your point, but in this case there is no contraction at all, en is clearly just a preposition. ;)

    What about use with states, provinces? That the same way with countries and islands?

  • @jerryhufanda5791

    What about Mexique, it ends with an e but I think it’s masculine. Is this an exception?

    Hi Pascal, "à" also means "in" and also before article + nouns as "dans" do.So, how to differentiate between "dans" and “à”?
