One of my best friends enjoyed this album and recommended it to me 3 years ago. Every time I listen to it, I think about the good times we had. Rest in peace, Joey.
Earlier today, I tried listening. it was the afternoon. I didn't get it. I'm now listening to it half conscious at 2AM in a pitch black room, wrapped in comforters. I get it.
This album ain’t for everyone. This album and most of the GAS catalog is best for the people who enjoy and understand the more atmospheric, contemplative, and painterly music like Ambient Techno, Downtempo, Chillout, or even Classical in a sense.
My partner and I fell in love to this album 3 years ago. He introduced me to it. I come back and recall every moment from every track of that week we got to know one another. It feels as deep as this whole album and then some. I fall asleep to it now, it absolutely takes my anxiety away.
It is soothing for us since we humans are born from the mothers that provide us the adequate nutrients to sustain the developing fetus in an entrapment of bodily womb which is monotonously beautiful and melancholy in tone.
It's like if you've heard a party going on through the forest, get caught by desire to hear better, and then you find yourself into a circle of witches dancing with spirits in another world...
He has claimed that the intention of the project is to "bring the forest to the disco, or vice-versa". This is exactly what I want out of music. To me Deepchord is the man in the whole dubtechno spectrum, I think Gas is going to fill in that place for the more ambient side of music. Of course, using genre names can be limiting. But I'm getting more and more into music without much melody, with that soothing, sometimes under water like- quality, and I would appreciate any recommendations from the whole 'ambient(techno)' realm. I'm already listening to the Black Dog, really good too.
It just happens i was reading a book while listening to this album. I was in a chapter that served as a prelude for a big upcoming battle in the story, and track #5 was playing. It brought up the anxiety levels up drastically lol
Undoubtedly my favourite GAS album. Also, this is the only one that gives me a different state of mind. I feel a certain "dizziness"... I'm pretty sure it's the fire creeping one can hear through the entire record.
Untitled 2 perfectly captures the feeling of walking through the eerie, mysterious, dark and yet beautiful back streets of Central London at around 3am.
The first song, that I heard from this album, was Zauberberg 4.A DJ played this on the opening channel in Hamburg in 1996 or 1997.Maybe 2 years ago I get this album on vinyl for little money. It was in a used condition. For the brand new vinyl edition there`s to pay 400 Euros. It`s a very very good ambient album.Thank you for uploading.

@@johnwilkins11 i have this on vinyl and cd this sound is present on all of the GAS Box Set versions. It is not preseent in orignal pressing or in the version on Nah Und Fern.
@@johnwilkins11 it's not on the Nah Und Fern versions on Spotify, only the versions realeased with the GAS box set. I beleive that one is a bad release. problem is i spent like $250 on it years ago...
@scottschiess1440 Yes, this clicking sound is intentional percussion (at least IMO). It is present on the reissues of this album-- in other words, the extended versions of these tracks. The tracks on Spotify and those in the box set are the extended versions from the reissues, while the tracks in this upload and in Nah Und Fern are the shorter tracks from the original CD. I know that same sound is definitely in numerous other GAS releases as well-- Haven't looked into the specifics on that yet, however. It makes sense that the original vinyl didn't have any clicking sounds-- It actually had shorter track runtimes than the original CD, and that's not mentioning the CD exclusive first track. The extended versions of the CD tracks first appeared in the box set, and then in various reissues across vinyl and CD. You'll notice that in Nah Und Fern, the original CD versions were used for all the tracks except Zauberberg 6, which got a unique extended edition. It is different from the reissued Zauberberg 6, as it does not contain the clicking sounds, while the reissue does. In the reissue, only two tracks do not have any significant change in length compared to their original counterparts: Zauberberg 4 and Zauberberg 5. As these tracks were not extended, they do not have any clicking noises. Listening to the reissue, the clicking noises sound less like defects or glitches, but more like intentional percussion, sounding similar to a hi-hat. They are dispersed throughout the tracks, oblivious yet patient, to add a new layer of activity and motion to the album.
The GAS compilation Nah und Fern is on iTunes, compiling Gas, Königsforst, Zauberberg and Pop. The digital version is of course nowhere near the experience of these masterpieces on vinyl ;) which you can get off discogs.
Kasper Melchior To each their own. I've never understood the insistence on vinyl; I fell in love with the Beatles via what I much, much later learned is supposedly "one of the most infamously bad vinyl-to-CD transitions in the history of audio technology." Or something. To me, it's not the medium or the sound quality that's important; it's the material. Besides which, listeners often alter the bejeezus out of their own music by mucking with the sound settings--does that mean they "ruin the experience"? Nah.
The title Magic Mountain is great, but there is always a major controversion. This dude is an electronic musician. This is his side project. Normally he makes some club disco songs. He attends german clubs and supposely celebrates his music successes with German girls. Yet yo. German girls - they are beautiful but not for everybody. If I was a German succesful DJ I would obviously celebrate hard my successes but yo, those girls are of that type... No wonder Mr. Voigt founded a side project, which is a dark ambient made with Wagner samples. The music rocks hard, it is so fucking stupid that he is not Major Musician. When you get into electronic music, you hear lot's of other ambient names, like BoC, Biosphere, FSOL and such. I never listen to them, and I could not live without GAS music. Yet yo. As I said, the controversion is wether that dude really stays with his mind in deep poetry, or he's just an gifted sample editor and nothing more. The controversion is real, because Wagner, who is a co-author of Gas album, was actually disrespecting music and was super entusiastic and competent in poetry, philosophy, theater and such stuff. So yeah we got a new Wagner but he is also a Techno DJ. It would be so fucking dissapointing, if it came out that new Wagner is stupid jerk! And he also put this title Magic Mountain, but let's be honest it is not difficult to put that title, but it is very very difficult to actually read Magic Mountain. I hope I will be not dissapointed!

Ambient sounds. With a pulse. It's like listening to blood flow through a human. Primarily someone who has a passion for something.
